That puts it some 8 - 10k more than an STi doesn't it?

The RS was on my potential shopping when buying a new car but too many potential issues and felt STi was a safer bet. Still feel it was the right decision....

Yeah Even as this forums Euro hot hatch guy I'm not the biggest fan of the new RS, don't like the noise especially compared to the 5 cylinder noise of the old ST225/RS mk2 also I agree with some of the guys, it looks a bit bland.  But don't be so quick to write it off having been in one I'll take its interior and comfort over the new STi anyday

  • 4 weeks later...

Seems the head gasket failure is down fo a massive cock up at Ford.

The Ecoboost motor is also used in the Mustang but there are differences in its design. When assembling the RS motor, the head gasket used in a lot of cases was actually for the Mustang. This meant that water channels inside the head were compromised which lead to overheating and gasket failure. The assembly line obviously wasn't aware of the difference between the gaskets. D'oh!

The issue is also affecting models here in NZ. I know of at least one car that has had the engine repaired under warranty. Certainly glad I went with an STi....

the current focus rs is about to undergo a recall for duff head gaskets.

a problem they had with the first sierra cosworths back in the 80s.

seriously, an old subaru is like a tractor compared to the latest hot hatches.

And the 2.5 Duratec V6 - They had a really bad design on the back bank where there was bugger all gasket and these engines were well know to blow head gaskets externally. Mine had started to go when the gear box died, it would make a ticking sound as it leaked compression.

Also Ive seen a few videos on cracking blocks on the ecotec engines as well

I haven't heard anything about it been cause they used the wrong one. That's actually the big one that gets confused, yes they both 2.3L but they actually different engines. The RS engine is a reworks Focus ST (2.0) engine and not the mustang 2.3 one.

The issue comes from it been a Open deck designed engine which is great at 2.0L with low boost, but to make it a RS it becomes a horrible idea.

Also thing to remember for stock RS's it's actually very very few affected, but for anyone who even does flash tuning software and up's the boost the nightmares begin.

Really sad as when its running its a damn great car.

I saw something on the MRT youtube videos, where they talk about the intercooler. ApparentlyThere's a cover that's stuck on the front to reduce the amount of cooling it receives. It was put on due to cars in warm moist climates condensing water in the intercooler. But you should be able to remove it to increase cooling.

Happened to watch the MCM episodes on the RS last night and when going through the factory it was mentioned that it was the 2.3 mustang ecoboost block with different heads and cylinder liners, pistons etc. Wouldn’t be surprised if they were mistaken though

@SpeedySub Also over efficiency in super cold area’s was mentioned as a reason too

there is only one basic ecoboost 2.3, based on the older ecoboost 2.0, albeit in different states of tune for explorer, mustang, focus.

forgot about the duratec 2.5, a that was a sweet little v6, the best part of the old radisich telstar

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
