VSS Speed sensor wire in Legacy

So installing a Kenwood wireless car play unit, apparently for wireless CarPlay to work the VSS (Speed sensor wire) must be hooked up.

I tried to follow the legacy GT write up here https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/mythical-2005-op-connector-system-94474.html?p=2662545&postcount=23

And connected the green/black wire to the Kenwood pink VSS wire, but still getting the error.  I got a 2006 JDM Legacy BL the wire colours & pinouts should be the same?

Can you not just ground the wires like the older models that are supposed to be connected to the handbrake circuit. The Legacy’s don't exactly have a speed sensor from the gearbox or to the dash as it is CAN based so not completely sure where you would get it from.

Have never heard of this OP connector before, it’d make aftermarket stereo installs miles easier if it is there. Might have to have a look to see if there is one on mine.

Grounding only works on the parking sensor, not the VSS wire.  Annoying. Wireless CarPlay won't work without it.

Don't suppose it says what it is expecting voltage/resistance wise? Could fake it with a transformer and a bunch of resistors to achieve a particular speed that allows it.

Don’t they just ground every time they pass a tooth like abs sensors. 

Same trick you do on rally cars either fit a sensor to the rear wheel or splice into the abs line.

So I re-tried with the Op connector detailed here https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/mythical-2005-op-connector-system-94474.html?p=2662545&postcount=23

Just made sure the wire joiner cut through the wire insulation, worked fine after that also had to drive around to get it to recognise the VSS signal.

 

Heres mine just behind the Drivers side Fuse box, had to pull it down a bit
