Oil leak

Recommended Posts

Hey I have a forester with the ej2ot, its the ej205 I got told when I went to get a service on it that the rocker cover gasket is leaking, I can see under the car the leaking oil now, is it easy to fix and do myself or should I get a mechanic to sort it?

Thanks

it's very easy, anyone can do it. Just make sure you don't over tighted the rocker over bolts when the new seals are in, or they will leak again in no time.

Do I have to remove much out of the engine to get to the rocker cover gaskets?

Nah not a lot. Intake bits on drivers side and battery on passenger side so you're not fighting for room. You’ll need various length socket extensions and a flex joint as it can be a bit difficult to get the socket in the spark plug hole until you work out the right lengths for everything.

Have you bought the parts yet?

There is no need to remove the spark plugs??? You just need to remove 6 bolts on each side.. unhook the breather pipe... and pull it off.

True, was thinking about how I did it a few months back but replaced spark plugs at the same time

I'm pretty sure it's the passengers side with the battery.

That will be easier... just the battery and washer bottle to remove. TBH though these things often happen in pairs. Assuming both seals are the same age... they will be in a similar condition, and if one is leaking now, the other won't be far behind.

Jacking the motor up will make the job of replacing the seals easier... but is more work before and after the seal replacement... so 6 of one and half a dozen of the other really.

Now im not sure if it is the rocker cover gaskets as they both seem fine, I got the car a service about 7 weeks ago, the retards have overfilled the engine with oil by quite alot, the leak is on the driver's side as the oil is dripping off the oil pan and the cross member, any suggestions as to what it could be and how to sort?

So what is the oil level on the dipstick when warm currently? Easiest thing to do would be to get in there and clean it up as much as you can then go for a drive and try narrow down the leak again.

Could be the turbo oil drain too, they often start leaking down the back of the engine and can be misdiagnosed as something else as they can be a bit hard to inspect on some models.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
