SSM code reader for 98 WRX

Hi guys, still trying to get access to my error codes on my 1998 WRX. I understand this is the change over year for the code system, tried all sorts of scanners including an older full on workshop scanner. No go.

I downloaded the freessm program to try but need recommendations for cable, my car has the OBD2 plug but doesn't appear to use that code.

So recommendations for cable to access the system?

I used a KKL 409.1 VAG-COM Cable successfully with FreeSSM and my '05 Legacy.

 

Been ages, but I remember trying to get the drivers working was a gigantic f***-around.

 

I'd probably skip the scanner and work out how to get the dash diagnostic codes to read properly.

Thanks mate, yea read the code and found it was icv, checked and cleaned that and couldn't find any issues. Just wanted the scanner to see if there were any other issues. The freessm software looks good so wanted to have a play.....
