Ok here gos my first topic on CLUBSUB (pitty its not under better circumstances).

Subaru Legacy 1997 EJ20TT 5Speed White Wagon

Problem: When i go to start car it keep turning over ( rararararararararararararararara) (sqwalk)

Fault Code: 13 ( Cam Sensor )

What i have done so far: i have replaced the cam sensor for a knowin good one. Then i drained all electrics and placed battery back in, then checked for anymore faults - nuthing but a constant flash of the CEL... pulled out diag plugs.

Try to start it and nuthing but the rararararararara of the starter.

ATM i have checked timming belt - looks ok, im yet to get a mate to help me turn engine over and check timming markings. Also i am pulling the starter off because it sound very sick..

if there is anyone out there that has any idea of what it may be, please help..

P.S. I'm too broke to pay Bayswater Subaru to do it......

well its at about 120,000, at about 97,000 i did the timming belt and tensioner...

made abit of a mess ended up breaking the lh intake and exhast cam gears, did the cam seals because it was leaking though down to the f/lh manifold area and burning white smoke.... as i checked the timming belt it had a top middle wear mark on it, im yet to check all of the timming gears.

its admittantly had a hard life from the getgo opon its arrival to nz.

Would it help make a diagnostic if i put it back together and make alittle clip of it turning over

Is it a BG or a very early BH?

Check that the cam sensor plug and no. 2 injector plug haven't been swapped.

Unplug the alternator and try starting.

The video has been up loaded to Youtube, just type in Subaru Legacy Not Starting ...

The trouble code can be caused by too much cranking... because it won't start, not nessecarily the cause of the no start.

The first thing you should do is check for fuel supply and spark... both fairly easy to do.

Then you check for compression and timing.

There is a certain order we are meant to follow to figure what is wrong with cars, and it's not to jump to conclusions because someone else had a problem like that once!

Thats one sick sounding starter motor!! :o

oh yeah im helping will get it going so wondering what the coorect fireing order is?

also how do you check timing with when its coil pack ect, you cant use a timing light can you?

Posted

You can connect an inductive pick-up timing light to a coils low voltage wire to check the timing. If it works that sort of checks for spark too.

You also want to check the cam timing.

Before that though check you have fuel and spark.

Crank it over with full throttle for a few minutes then quickly pull a spark plug out and see if it's wet with fuel. While it's out put it onto it's coil and rest it on the motor and crank the motor to check for spark.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
