Upgrading the headunit in your BE/BH (Non-Macintosh amp'd system)

Here's how you go about upgrading the headunit in your BE/BH, that doesnt use the Macintosh amplified system.

Here's an example of a BE model with a double-din unit.

before.jpg

Pull the gear lever surround off to access the tray screws, and remove the tray

The plastic surround pulls off, but there are some plugs you'll need to undo, they are circled

Undo the 6 screws holding the headunit brackets in and pull it out

To make it easier, get the Subaru adaptor looms from Repco so you don't have to hack up any wiring. You'll also need to get a pocket kit as well, which you can also get from Repco

Then all you need to do is screw your new unit and pocket into the brackets, hook it up and you'll be going!

I have done all that but no sound through the front speakers?

Found the same type of adapter as at the headunit end under the drivers seat and did some testing with a multimeter and got the front speakers going. Problem is, they run off the rear speakers as well so can't fade forward and back.

What do you think my problem is? I have only just got the car and it did not have a head unit at all so did all the figuring out myself. I have done many car stereos but none have been as difficult as this! Am I missing something?

One thing you may want to mention is the screw holding the ash tray runner which nearly caused me to break my surroung but as only one of the two were there some may not even have it (can be seen in the fourth picture laying to the right of the gear knob). otherwise thanks it made everything alot simpler.

Cheers

P.S do you know what the two cables are for plugged into the blanking plugs (circled in the third picture)

Aww buggar my images are gone... I'll need to dig them out and re-host them elsewhere.. I'll get onto that.

Hi Scooby....did you manage to post the pictures elsewhere?...if not, any chance you could put them up again.....

I'm going to try and change over tomorrow!

Cheers

Ok guys I just had a go at getting the plastic surround off and it became a monster task. I just couldnt get the bottom part of the surround to budge. I took out everything as noted above. I did notice that there were some screws in the bottom of the stereo above the ash tray that may do something?

yip, did this the other day, take the two screws out above the ash tray and youll be sweet, need a stub/short nose philips for that :)

The instructions dont really cover that bit, and all up holding just the stereo in alone.. there are 6 screws

thanks mate, definitely needed to know that. I was very close to breaking my surround. Will give it a go once I get a Philip head that will fit in.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
