What have you done to your car today?

On the plus side, your car sure isn't slow:

Looked like a handful to keep in a straight line!

It's not slow, just a smokey POS. STM assured me it's not rich and have shown me the AFR graphs which show it runs at 0.78 to .80 lamba.

So not really sure what's going on but have decided to pull the motor this weekend and rebuild the short block this time.

Put a tow bar on the forester. By all accounts in the uk they are rated to 1800kg towing and a lot of guys tow race cars with them.

I know over here it's only rated to 1400 kg, but after using a terrano rated to a lot more and it being a bloody terrible tow vehicle, I tried the forester and it's just way better.

The legacy we used to take the car to Mansfield was way better too.

Hmmm, Im not sure I'd want to tow 1800kg with a 1450kg vehicle, also it may be illegal here, which would void any insurance etc if anything happens.

Manufacturer tow ratings aren't enforceable:

https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/glovebox-guide-safe-loading-towing/guide-safe-loading-towing.html#howmuch

"Most vehicles have tow ratings given to them by the manufacturer specifying the gross trailer weight braked, unbraked, or both, that the vehicle can safely tow. Although the law does not require these tow ratings to be followed, the NZ Transport Agency recommends that they be taken into account."

The only enforceable law for lightweight towing vehicle I know of is this:

"the law requires that every light vehicle and trailer combination must be capable of stopping within a distance of seven metres from a speed of 30km/h."

Further reading:

Edit: Insurance may open a different can or worms

Interesting...

7m is a long way at 30kph.

What Jono24 said.

As long as:

- the combination of tow vehicle + trailer + load doesn't weigh enough to require anything beyond a Class 1 license;

- you don't exceed structural limitations of the tow vehicle or towbar (usually max tongue weight);

- the combination can stop within 7m at 30kph;

...you can go nuts.

The RA's turbine wheel decided that it no longer wanted to have a long distance relationship with the housing, and decided on cold start this afternoon to finally give the housing the kiss it's been dreaming of.

Now to find a replacement turbo, or get this one rebuilt...

pulled the motor in order to fix the clutch and high oil usage. The ring that holds the release bearing has come off and is floating around between the pressure plate and clutch disk. I will take to Rick to figure out why it failed. I hope it wasn't that I adjusted the clutch

pedal incorrectly when trying to fix the bad slave cylinder... allowing the fork to be pushed in too far :0

Installed a new clutch, flywheel etc over the last couple of days. Also replaced the rear main seal and oil separator plate while the box was off.

Was pretty filthy inside so suspecting it was the factory clutch still after 212xxxkms. Safe to say it was pretty rooted and the replacement is so much nicer!

Also no more rattling release bearing which has made the car so much more enjoyable to drive.

Legacy got a new left rear hub, replacement ABS pump/computer, all new brake pads, brake fluid flush and bleed.

Impreza is about to get a new AC belt idler after the bearing on it collapsed and made me **** my pants thinking the turbo had died.

You know if its finally solved the ABS issue yet?

+1 Haha. Interested to see the outcome too. I've seen another case where simply replacing the sensors was unsuccessful, 2005 3.0 outback, auto. Have you replaced the brake pedal switch yet?

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
