Steve - forums are open to suggestion, intrepretation and sometimes slander but you have to take what some people say with a grain of salt.

Some people speak from experience some from a sound technical back ground some from their arse but whatever it might be mate it shouldnt stop you from coming on here and having input. You just have to realise there are punters and then there are 'others' and there will forever be no matter what forum your on.

Im well aware of all that thus voiced my opinion like others and to be honest even for those of us that do whats mentioned here for a living its not worth competing with keyboard jockeys sad thing is all the misleading advise that's given but as you've said that's the net for you if anything cheap entertainment.

    the invoice was from 2007?

gezzzz ive lost count how many units ive done since then but going by the sizes its a 46 trim e comp wheel and a "O" trim t4 turbine wheel sounds like just as yourve stated rebuilt with same spec just using oem parts.

yea handwritten to. will check measurements tonight. was damn sure you wouldnt remember and knew you would pop up at some point.

sorry man your turbo talk is far above my head. what sort of setup is it good or? the wheels look hell big.

so the cores standard air research as above sizewise with a smaller t3 exhaust housing?

edit: actual sizes are above well what ive got so far anyway specs i had written down must of been for something else.

i hand write all my invoices thats not an issue as long as its numbered itll be a t3 turbine housing and a t4e comp cover

Like i said it was a weird issue that never really got resolved on mine either, even with Steves help. His agent in Invers was a complete numpty, sorry Steve, but he just ended up giving up and I could never get ahold of him again.

However, i think it came down to a blockage somewhere in the system so the BOV was the obvious starting point hence the Tial but that never worked. I cleaned and recleaned the front mount, i pullled the front end off numerous times to get it and cleaned the piping and checked and triple checked everything and still couldnt figure it out so had to live with it. I put it down to that turbo wasnt the right one for that application in the end. I had quality parts, an MSE td05/td06 turbo quality build, good tune..still no go.

Even played around with diameter of the vacuum hose...larger smaller, made no difference.

i understand, the problem is i cant be everywhere to help it gets a tad costly to do so as it is now i spend countless hours on the phone sorting setups all over the planet and dont get paid for it

  6. i like to get away with as high cr as possible you get more bang for your money and makes the turbo threshold a lot sooner it all depends on the BTU of the fuel being used the old days of low cr were based on poor control of ignition which makes for a very lazy engine off boost, i tune most turbo engines as n/a till they see boost then retard 1-2 deg per pound of boost fuel spray pattern plays a big part again i try to run as close to 85psi including boost pressure as a max before the pintal needles floats.

  7. as has been stated above the line isn't too much of an issue and 2.5 to 4mm id pipe as per either the vf or the tdo5 pipe works fine provided the correct banjos are used at each end, pressure cant be controlled so controlling the volume is the alternative works the same way on skyline factory turbos the extra volume creates extra parasitic drag reducing response and causes the bearings to run hotter.

too much oil can be as bad as too little the correct way to establish the fitting sizes is the recommend flow rate per min of oil which isn't that easy to do if the room doesn't allow it.

Basically the gauze netting was clogged, the one closest to the cams especially. So far the cheapest I can find is the $1400 for the VF38 which seems ridiculous.

Apparently the TD04L is a straight bolt up and probably a much more cost effective option.

but not the factory turbo for your car, and down on performance as well.

    stand by info coming

great... where is it?? more details... "how to" instructions would be most helpful thanks

edit: is it in the oil feed banjo bolt like earlier single turbo WRX's etc?

oh wait.. you build turbos yea? well you wont be giving us instructions any time soon nor want us being proactive now will you LOL

I will nut it out myself and post step by step instructions and put all the turbo builders in the world out of business mwaahahahaa

    mwahahahhaa *pause* mwahahaha *cough cough

    mwaha...

    huh?... ahh yip

    hurrr....

    ...

hahahaha thats not the case at all sometimes its easy to do a google or buy a manual to how do, nothing to do with me supplying info to which if people don't act like retards i will but the old saying picture speak a thousand words is at times easier ;D ;D

Vorigan, can you get around welding the gate closed? Like, making up a locking arm or some such to keep the actuator shut?

yes you can if using a spring it needs to be off the header pipe on a two stroke bike or making a fixed arm, an internal gate even with a base of 11psi like on a sub will start to open around 2psi as exhaust pressure is forcing it open thus why electronic boost controllers improve it holding it closed longer even for the same boost again why and external works better

  11. NO IM NOT PUSHING FOR WORK

Ive loss count of how many vf38 Ive repaired and re cored using another vf and no other twin scroll bolts up the flange is different from a vf36 etc so it the vf38 or change everything, so far this week Ive repaired 3 of them and 3 more to go the tdo4 version is a good unit with most parts changeable not sure what my customers on sell them for when im done but 1300 for used one sounds about right and sub have dropped there price they use to be over 4k.

The car stock is around 120kw wheel after a reflash with my upgrade around 180kw.

Vf38 was doomed from day one due to lack of oil supply which also effects the cams and use's a divide thrust inside that also lacks sufficient oil supply and add to that a titanium turbine wheel that never worked well from first time designers used them late model evos suffer the same issues thus when they ran production race series they were permitted to use standard steel shaft cores from previous year evos.

i was asked a couple years ago by sub Aussie to change 500 vf38 to upgraded cores but they decided not to which is really funny as they said " the turbos arnt cheap" i laughed and had to remind them who supplied them hahah

  12. making the up pipe better great idea, ,making it bigger bad idea

subs already have headers that are too long thus why the factory up pipe isn't that big not much you can do about the header length but controlling the up pipe yes, going any bigger than the turbine inlet size slows flow reduces response even with a bigger exhaust.

    what to do?

i eat sleep and drink this stuff 24/7 365 days a year......read my last reply and you pick

XR6 turbo falcons die due the filter dam good money spinner for ford same for subs

    /quote]

Didnt spot that last one :)

So ditch it you say ?

Im picking provided I run good oil, good filter, change it regularly and do proper warm up warm down s after hard driving it will be fine ?

I recall my old CT26 turbo ran for 185,000 kms with no issues, and Toyota never ran any additional filters, hell I even used Ryco filters for the 100,000 kms I owned the car. Anyything wrong using Ryco with Subies ?

you cant compare turbos there's many contributing factors that come into the oil requirements as has been mentioned it only takes a pubic hair and the filters blocked it has a better chance living without it.

  14.  Heylin said:

Called Subaru, $58+gst, I thought Toyota bolts were expensive :)...

Anyway guy said I can get away with cleaning the filter, and it only needs to be done on fresh imports, or cars with unknown service history.

ie do once, use quality oil and filters, proper warm up and warm downs and it should not be a future issue. I may add it to the service regime and check it every 2nd oil change ie every 16,000.

you do that and let me know when you need another turbo
