  1. Im down for the 15th. Car should be finally happy by then too. Ohh and photographer is happy to come along then too.
  2. So just to clarify - was it Mag and Turbo that did the install, or the other place? Either way, I agree that its an excessive amount of money! I would suggest approaching their head office about it. Or perhaps the MTA, although you may struggle to get anywhere with Joe at the MTA Mediation service. Worth trying however, as there is no cost to you and its bad for their reputation.
  3. I think its one of those things that comes under the category of one in a lifetime experience. Something you do when you dont have a mortgage to pay for, kids to bring up etc. Ie once you get a bit older and have too much money I would still love to do it though! I wonder how I could pursuade them to let me be the 0 car...?
  4. Front LSD can be bought new, but as Loren says - $$$. Second hand you could get lucky and find one in certain STi boxes, but you wont generally find them on their own - you will need to buy the box too. Also, what do you want it for? Are you finding you are loosing front end grip? And if so, what sort of tyres and suspension do you have? I would suggest a front LSD is important if you are competiting on gravel, as it makes a fair bit of difference. But not so sure circuit racing that its so relevant as most grip issues can be overcome by good tyres and suspension. Depends how serious you are though.
  5. If you have a search round its generally agreed that a factory STi clutch is good for most applications - they can handle a surprising amount of power and of course are much nicer on the rest of the drivetrain
  6. I must be getting old, I was thinking that it was an ugly, typical example of a boyracer car...
  7. From what I have heard its run by at least some of the people who organise Targa, just under a seperate event prior to Targa. There is very little info on the site about what they would allow to enter. So I think they would probably have discretionary rights over entrant vehicle types. Somehow I dont think they would want my 20 year old RS Legacy rally car getting in the way of the "fast" exotic cars

    DIY STI Mudflap

Hehe, keen I should really get round to using some of the stuff you made them out of to put underneath the RS to protect it from stones etc. Just a matter of time and money really, getting it going was the priority.
  9. To be honest, half the problem would be keeping the car running for 17 days! And affording the fuel/tyre/brake pad bill.
  10. http://www.drivenzclassic.com/ Very interesting... Anyone from here doing this? I know it aint cheap, but it would be a once in a life time experience - something to save up for and do one year perhaps. Especially with the exotic company you would have
  11. The Playday on Track one on the 12th? I would go, but I prefer Intermarques/Road and Track - better value for money.

    DIY STI Mudflap

Nice work! What have you done with the old STi ones? As I might be interested in them as spares for my set
  13. I have to agree. I know technically a wheel alignment does help, but if you havent done anything silly to your car, like hit things or swapping struts etc - it shouldnt wander out majorly. Both my Legacys see gravel and/or grass in competition on a regular basis and yet the alignment is still not majorly out. And I regularly travel somewhat long journeys in them, yet tire wear is still even. Of course if you plan on taking the car to the track - a wheel alignment is much more relevant then. However for an average daily driver, with our sh*te roads - I dont think there is a massive advantage unless the car was in trouble suspensionwise before the alignment. *This is all purely based on personal opinion/experience. I have no technical proof of course!*

    Oil Change

Same. Dont see why it would be necessary.
  15. Hmm, bugger. Will have to keep my eye out for an EJ20R thats committed suicide.
  16. From memory the BG5 EJ20R heads are quite a good upgrade for the dirty old BC5. But what about the heads on an early TT (EJ20H? I think?)? As I have access to a TT (non-EJ20R) engine thats run a bearing. And well, Im able to take what I want from it most likely.
  17. The only detailed comparisons I have is from Targa last year - I was doing a job that required us to go through the stages before everyone and we were in a bit of a hurry (road was closed most of the time). I used BP98, Gull Force 10 and Mobil 8000, I found no discernable difference in fuel economy between any of them (we travelled in excess of 3000km during the week and used over $800 in fuel). However it was hardly the must subjective of tests, as we had different weather conditions, different levels of driver enthusiasm and different levels of weight onboard. So the only consistency was that it was the same car, driver and similar kays between refuels And yeah, no discernable economy difference.
  18. Im down with any idea really, I would suggest Saturday mid afternoon is easiest as you say - some people have commitments on Saturdays (I have football as an example) and on Sundays I have motorsport. Just give me a week or two's notice and Im keen for whatever and can drag camera man along too
  19. Is your Synergy 8000 not 10% Ethanol? As it is down here, mind you I did hear someone say it was being trialled here first...?
  20. Force 10 is the Gull 10% Ethanol mix 98 fuel. Mobil also do a form of Synergy 8000 which is also 10% Ethanol 98 fuel.
  21. ive heard most subarus cant run force 10. subaru said so Dont believe everything you hear. Especially from a manufacturer that has to protect itself from warranty claims as much as possible... Ive never heard anyone say a 10% Ethanol blend provided by a New Zealand fuel retailer caused their car to be damaged in any way. Opinions differ on whether cars go better on it and/or whether they use more/less fuel. Have a search round here and have a look at the previous threads on the matter.
  22. Check the left rear shock isnt leaking - this is really common on the wagons (ive killed several in mine) and I imagine it could also be an issue in the sedans. If the persons only changed the oil every 10k I would check it out carefully. If you do get it, run some upper engine cleaner through it to clean things out a bit! Other than that, be wary of any whistling turbos and any CEL codes. But as previously mentioned, they do look smart in white
  23. Not sure - Im in Wellington, so wouldnt know sorry.
  24. I too have heard horror stories as a result of cardboard being the main component of the inside of fram filters. However, I have only heard of this being an issue in race cars, not so sure about road cars. Either way, I use Elf Competition as thats what STi Japan recommend and whats used by some seriously highly strung cars in the NZ Production Car series. If it can handle that, I reckon its good enough for use in my lowly RS Legacy rally car
