  1. Tried to install a band expander to my 2002 legacy but it has a funny arial input. Kinda like 2 tiny prongs on a round plug.

Obviously my expander didnt fit so I took it back.

Does anyone know the type of plug I mean and where I could get an expander?

The 97 STI i owned.... i brought it off a farmer WITH a blown BEB 104,xxxKMs

He said that they only had 91 on the farm and the insurance company did a fuel and oil analysis and didnt pay him out because:

    1) it had crap oil and/or hadnt been serviced in yonks

    2) the fuel was 91 octane

Thats the story he gave me.

Did all the red paint chip off the manifold during removal or when the conrod wanted out the block?

I've done two in my "84 vauxhal (read holden) astra 1.3 both due to high revs. Dropped a replacement engine in the blew the second within weeks and got a warranty.

It was also the only car I had stolen. Was dumped 100m from my house. I guess the theives weren't too impressed with the dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka sound from the engine bay

    Yep, you're an idiot.

I've really considered manufacturing 007 style flip up plates. Had a work mate with one on his gsxr1100. 170mph everyday on his way to work!

Ok so some actual info time.

Here is a link to the Police's speed enforcement guide. Note how they are GUIDELINES only, not hard and fast rules.

If the demerits are truly going to screw you over, how much longer do you have to wait until your oldest ones expire? Because the demerit points only accrue onto your licence when you pay the fine, you can stretch this out over a while if neccessary. Here's how:

    1. Police will mail you an infringement notice. You have '28 days' to respond.

    2. 28 days expire, police will send you a 'reminder notice' with another '28 days' to respond.

    3. On the 27th day of the reminder notice, send them a letter explaining the circumstances in an attempt to try to get them to drop it. They probably won't, but as long as you've chucked said letter in the mail before the 28th day, you have extended the time some more. Plus you've made them work for your money, yay.

    4. They'll send you back a 'no, stuff off." letter most likely, but this will take around a week, during which time you still don't have to pay the fine. With said letter will come another reminder notice, with another 10-20 days to pay attached.

    5. At this point you can either:

5a. Pay the fine on the last day and the demerits will be accrued onto your licence at that point. If you don't pay the fine after this they can impound your car etc so yeah

or 5b. The day before your time runs out, send them a letter requesting a hearing in respect of said offence. They legally have to give you one, and you gain more time while that is organised and carried out.

So yeah. You can stretch it out by like 3-5 months if needed...the worst that can happen is that you lose in court and have to pay another $30 on top of the fine or whatever. The best that can happen is you get off scot free.

THIS IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR ADVICE FROM A LAWYER. ;D

This worked for a friend of mine more than once. his license is more important than the fines. And this is all in his work truck.

If you were driving fast and there was no one around to see it we're you speeding?

    Time and place for everything.

my only ticket, 74 in temp 50 on SH1 when they were digging tunnels. Cop said "top of the hill behind the bush is a 50 sign, it's not an 80 anymore"

  5. My mate pulled over a Honda last week, with NOS bottles on the parcel shelf, brand new custom interior, 19's etc.

He asked 'do you have the cet for the NOS?" 'no officer it's not plumbed in"

So turns out it's got a stock 1600 vtec, untouched not even a type R.

My mate told hom that his Hyundai has more power and the owner replied 'it's all about the looks ay"

After chatting, he admitted he's spent $15k on dressing up his car but nothing on brakes or power.

Audi RS4, the ultimate sleeper for me!

  6. +1 for nuclear. Only ignorance breeds fear.

    about $150 a month for 3bed house 2 living rooms, 4 adults.

It's easy to work out what you use by looking at the labels and figuring how long it's on. My Flatmate had his heater on for all of June so I showed him that a 2Kw heater for 12 hrs a day was using 720Kw that month. Which was half the bill. No arguments there.

Think its just another revenue making plan dreamed up by that massive gang we call the new zealand police force, i txt all the time while driving and most people that use a cellphone semi-regularly dont need to look at the phone to write and send a txt message, same with making and recieving calls, if you dont feel comfortable doing it then dont! Those with a keen eye may notice the small cellphone emblem on this post, indicating it was posted from a cellphone, while driving....

Yeap still alive, havnt caused any accidents, mrs hasnt yelled at me to get back on my side of the road...

Exactly the attitude that gets bits of kiwis smeared across the road in record numbers each year.

The "been driving since 15 no lessons, written off 5+ cars but none were my fault, use my cell phone in one hand with a beer in the other, seat so laid back i can't see over the wheel, and I'm a meeeean as driver" special that I see so many of each day (well without the beer-sometimes)

  8. Cell phone ban is just an attitiude thing, people will get used to it just like wearing seat belts or not smoking in pubs.

And it's a good move as often I'm driving around thinking 'man that guy must be boozed upto the eyeballs with the way he's swerving around' only to find they're txting someone.

Anyway gotta go i'm on the blackberry and a tricky roundabout's coming up

  9. But so does talking to passengers?

There's no real harm into just talking into space. At the moment my phone defaults to speaker phone in the car so it lives in the centre console and i just turn the stereo down.

Just trying to get work to pay for my new bluetooth stereo so it's integrated to voice dial and sound through speakers etc.

Altezza/IS250 etc are Ok for Jappas but still a world behind an Audi A4/ BMW 3-series/Mercedes C-class.

    ;D

My old man used to always have mercs and bmers, but then test drove an is200 did around 500m and could tell it was a better handling car than all the others mentioned traded his 5 series for it. Moved onto another 200, then the 250, but the ISF was a dog so he moved over to the XF.

The truth is that the Japanese have moved a long way whilst others get lazy. Since the late 90's Mercs have become unreliable and of poor build. Loosing many customer review surveys etc.

On a tangent I heard a story through the grapevine from a marshal at Puke that at a recent track day a youngster crashed his mums 2 day old ISF into the wall, and he hadn't even told her he'd borrowed it lol
