  1. I spoke to AA and the ASB today and they said no because of the mods, not so much worried, but want to have the insurance lined up before i start. I didn\'t think i needed a cert, and was going to do most of it myself then send it down to NZEFI for a tune on an hks fcon IS.
  2. Hi all, Got a BE5 legacy that i\'m preparing to do a tt to st conversion but before i get started i\'ve been looking for insurance. Who do you go through for such a vehicle? AA and the ASB (IAG) have said no, anyone had any luck with such a vehicle through the main insurance providers or do i need to go to NAC? Any suggestions on where to go? I\'m ready to start spending up on parts but just don\'t want to get caught without insurance. Thanks guys
  3. thanks for that, looks not too hard I tried the solenoid which you can't see (behind the battery) doing a similar process (with the green and black plugs connected) but didn't notice any difference. I'll have a go at this on sat when i get time. appreciate the help (and the pictures!!!) by the way, i didn't realise these had a map sensor... why do they use a maf and a map?
  4. Thanks guys, found the pill between the compressor and T join off the primary, hard to even see but felt it in there. went to supercheap to get some brakleen this morn and none of the cans had the straw attachment, i asked if i could take one of the ones off a normal crc can and they told me that would be theft.... (pissed me off). anyway, i'll go to repco and get some now.... thanks
  5. Thanks for the reply. Only just just got to have another look today, could you tell me where you sprayed the brakleen? i see two vac hoses (numbers 10 and 23 on them) going through the inside of the engine bay and into the guard cavity, are these what you were talking about? you wouldn't happen to know which lines are supposed to have restrictor pills? any idea?
  6. Hi guys, I've had this car for a while and it never seemed as fast as my old BG5 on the second turbo. The car is a BE5 Rev. A, with the centre cat removed, a Corazon muffler, and the rest is stock as far as i know. it is a manual with the vf26/vf27 turbos. it has a strut brace, 4 pots, and the centre diff replaced for an earlier version (thanks guys!!!). I finally got around to putting in a GReddy electronic boost gauge which i installed using the advice off one of the threads on here (sensor is connected like this http://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?topic=16078.0). On the primary i've seen as high as 0.65 kg/cm2 (~9 psi). but on the secondary only ever managed to reach 0.8 kg/cm2 (~11 psi) (this is verified by the memory on the gauge). I've read you can get bad readings from improper installation of the boost gauge, but the primary seems to register a close to expected reading and the secondary is a lot further off the mark (i'm suggesting that ~10 psi primary/15+ psi secondary is normal). from this i am assuming my installation of the pressure sensor isn't the problem. I've also checked the CEL codes and just get the constant flashing, indicating no problem. I'm not sure what's going on here and any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance :-)
  7. Just to check guys (sorry) there is no need to worry about shimming the diff from the gearbox? just use all the parts and spacers from the pre 98 gearbox and bolt it up? thanks
  8. Hey thanks for the quick response, so the gen 2 facelift center diff is stronger? can i us the whole gearbox (bellhousing to rear of center diff) and bolt it up? they use the same 4.444 final drive ratios don't they? any idea if the front driveshafts use the same spline pattern? thanks
  9. Hi guys, My 98 BE5 Subaru Legacy B4 manual has done unrepairable damage to its gearbox/centre diff. The mechanic working on it is struggling to find parts for it (he found one down south). Can anyone tell me what the best options are and are there any other gearboxes/centre diffs that will work with my car (ie from other models). thanks guys
  10. Hey guys, can anyone confirm the information on this site is right/wrong, regarding whether a Walbro GS342 will fit a BE5 B4 Legacy (mine is a 1998 Rev. A for specifics). The site specifically states it won't fit and that a GS340 is required. http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=106366 Thanks
  11. thanks for the help so far, forgot to mention i have another vf27 coming and i plan to swap the bb chra out and put it in the vf26 primary (these primaries are journal/thrust bearings from everything i've read and are a direct swap with the secondary). Thanks D-style for the tip on cleaning out the sump and pick up, i hadn't heard of that but it sounds completely logical and a source of half of the primary turbos crapping out early (poor maintenance!). From what you've also told me is that the first and major weak point of the engine is that primary turbo. and a td04 primary hybrid is sounding better and better to get what i want. (i'll keep an eye out for cheap td04's and vf18's to bastardise). i've seen an avc-r on tm so will keep look out for those (been eyeing one up already).
  12. Hi, I'm reasonably new here and been reading every page on the web i can find about my model and modifications i can find. My B4 is the Rev A, it has the vf26/vf27 turbo combo (it's a manual). I've put some 4 pots on the front and a genome strut brace and that is it so far. Now the tricky part, getting more hp. an exhaust and a piggy back is my train of thought, but i'd like to hear from others with experience (please don't suggest single turbo) as to how loud the exhaust will be and how reliable the engines can be expected to be after these mods (how much more stress on the engine and where?). a 255 lph walbro is also on the shopping list. I've been looking at a rage 2.5" system turbo back, (twin 2.5" dump pipes, 2.5" y-pipe, 2.5" back to muffler), I want to know if other people have run similar and what they would do differently (the aim is more usable hp without to much noise), i.e, would you have another resonator in it? magoo muffler in chch here said to expect $1200 for said system. For a piggyback i'm keen on an hks f-con. i know these are probably on the expensive side but i've only heard good things about them (i know they can only be tuned by hks dealers...) and i do need this car to be reliable (understanding regular maintenance is always necessary). if you have any other suggestions on a piggyback that can handle the twin turbos i'm listening I've found the guys on ozliberty were getting 200-220kw at the wheels with similar sort of stuff but haven't heard how long these cars last and where they crap out, i understand the single turbos put out this sort of power reliably (? am i wrong here) on standard internals so where is the weak point in the twin. also will the hks f-con be able to control boost? i haven't heard if they can, if they can that's great but otherwise i'll probably need a boost controller (won't i?) thanks guys
  13. Bobbyjimmy, you were right just done the swap today. Thanks The original lines on the calipers had a different size bolt head (for the banjo) and that made me think that the bolt was going to be a different diameter. Also the hook on the banjo bolt of the 4 pots i was thinking would be a WOF requirement. According to Safe-R-Brakes it's not (I think i'll trust them). Thanks for the help guys. will keep my eye out for some braided lines next.
  14. I rang repco to get a price on factory equivalent hoses (for a GC8) and they told me over the phone $73 per corner. doesn't really sound worth it....
  15. Ok will do, any suggestion as for keeping the hoses captive, as the original brake lines have tab with a hole to bolt to the strut whereas the original hoses on the 4 pots (as well as a big slice in one of them) only have a groove in a crimped metal connector which looks similar to the restraint type on the chassis, except my strut (factory bilsteins) does not seem able to accomodate this... quite frustrating. I was contemplating going down to the local sheet metal workshop and fabricating something myself but I have a thing for factory items...
  16. Hi guys, I've been looking for some info on brake lines to help me swap out the original front two pot callipers on my 98 B4 for the wrx/sti 4 pots (non-brembo). The two pots have a simple banjo bolt with protrusions on the calliper to hold the banjo still while fastening it. The 4 pots have a different method where the banjo is held fast by a hook. also the bolt hole of the banjo appears to be of different diameters. Can some one tell me what brake lines (preferably including part no.s ;D ) will suffice? I have been looking at braided lines but haven't seen anything to confirm what i require (also is there any difference in brake line length between an imprezza and a legacy?). Thanks Jono
