i think i may have been f****d over by my garage. the turbo i gave them to install was in very good cond (for a 2nd hand turbo) but had problems when i first got it home. i took it back in and told them all the issues i was having which were like what happened to the 1st turbo before i took it to them. they kept it a couple more days told me it was done again and i could pick it up, when it was picked up i was told by the mechanic that the turbo must've been haddit and that they couldnt find anything else to check or why i was having these issues...there was no play in it and the wheels were all good but now the turbo is rattling which could be oil deprevation...im thinking the garage didnt check out why it happened the 1st time, banged on my next turbo sent the car home, i drove it round thinking it was ok and the same issue has reared its ugly head. any suggestions on what can be done? im going to take the car for a 2nd opinion but am sure i have been stiffed by my local that i've been using for many years now. the mechanic working on it even admitted he didnt know much about subies so im not sure he did the job right 1st time. would love to think i havent been done over but just dont know what else could have happened. will have the turbo taken out so i can see if it looks like it did BEFORE it was installed, just wanting to know anyone elses thoughts on this. cheers

yeah i think thats what happened to my old turbo. god hope it aint done it again...

cheers for that fullas, i will contact my garage that did the job and get them to check all the hoses, would it be a bad idea to drive the 20 odd kms to the garage? or should i get it towed there? i think it is what you's say it could be as it only happens on boost and it wouldnt boost over .2 bar when i was driving it home

just drove it home and it was whipping away quite a bit, and think the low whistle noise is there too now...cant see anything hanging around on the driveline or axles will just try and look under the cam cover now.

yeah that was just going on what the sales man told me and they dont lie eh? haha havent really looked for that sticker but i will check it out. do you think it could be my cambelt then? also drove the car around without the turbo working for a few days and never heard that whipping noise at all then?

yeah i do, just never got round to changing it and then this happened, the garage commented on the cambelt needing a to be changed when they put in my turbo. its sitting on 100k but think it was changed before i got it like at 20k?

also was just about to replace my cambelt before the turbo went, could be the worn belt flapping? hope not

yep will do that, it does sound like its coming from the rear of the car sometimes, would that be a big fix? hope not just spent a grand on my turbo replacement lol im in matata bout 20mins east of whakatane

doesnt have a rhythm as such just hear it now and again, it was making it more before i replaced my old turbo but on the way to work this morning it made it a couple times just as the boost was spooling up. if i rev the engine when idling i doesnt make any of those noises seems to only be when im driving it in gear

hi all have just replaced my turbo in my sti as it shit itself on me, and now have another one in and have noticed it makes a whipping like sound, maybe like a belt slipping or something, it was making this noise before the old turbo went and am hoping that it wont make this turbo go the same way. does anyone know what it might be making this sound? tried searching the forums but couldnt find anything about a whipping noise coming from the engine so have tried to start this up here cheers
