  1. Got car checked by panel beater, he reckons its only the rear panel that needs to get pulled and straightened, not chassis as such, so that\'s good news. Reckons it\'ll be around $500+second hand boot/bumper/bumper support bar. Hopefully should be able to get in done in 2 weeks or so, which gives me a bit of time to sort out a replacement boot/bumper.

Wheres the best place to get panels? strongs/trademe/other? Also are the STI/Non sti/non wrx rears bumpers the same except for the end caps?

Oh right, will keep my eye open then,. I am somewhat budget constrained, I have 4k to play with, 5k at the absolute max to have an engine running and installed, anything more and its not going to be worth fixing up as the car isn\'t worth enough money even rebuilt. Im also not planning on keeping it for that long either, maybe flick it off end of year unless my financials change, it costs too much to track if I break anything, and its a bit pointless having as a weekend car, id rather swap it for something a bit more comfortable. Ive still got to fix/replace the panels I crashed and possible chassis damage... So this is a lot of money to spend on a car worth maybe 10k?

/quote]find out if you have any chassis damage before committing to an engine

    Yep, should find out tomorrow.

Called up Innovate/Subtech/Highbrook for rebuild quotes, looks like im looking at ~$3500 if all goes well, and more like 4k if the rings or cam belt etc are going to be done. Drive in/drive out kind of thing. So need ot decide exactly what I want done, and who to do it, and hopefully get it done in a month or so.

Is that with your original Version 6 EJ207, open deck block?

Yeah, does that not sound right?

    1.6L of 20valve silvertop muscle..

    2k cup car?

That\'s the eventual plan for next year. For now it\'s just a runabout till I sorry out fixing/selling the wrx then it\'ll be used more as a track car. Wrx is too expensive/fragile to use on the track without spending a heap of money on it. $600 to replace an engine is better than 3k+. The Toyota has only done 165kms too, not bad for $1600, just a bit of peeling clear coat.

    fix it - keep it.

But rebuild stronger/better if you plan on tracking it again.

i fixed my GC8\'s BEB ($6.5K) yrs ago with replacement EJ20 but wish i\'d gone for a 2.5.

    good luck

... minus the pink wheels though :P

Yeah, I dont really want to spend much more than 5k on it, or it starts not being worth it to repair. Ive founde the replacement panels for ~$350 so will see what the panelbeater says re chassis damage.

  7. So with the potential that my car is going to be too expensive to fix would it be worth looking at parting it out instead. The interior is pretty mint minus one door card, exterior minus the damaged rear/front guard, spoiler and end caps are fine, front bumper/lip is fine though could do witha respray, gearbox is mint except for that common jumping out of 5th gear issue, has aftermarket 2.5inch tbe, difs and all that seem fine, zerosports splitter/difuser/sti genome gauge set, 17inch gold wheels with 3mm tires.

Is there much to be gained from parting it out/can someone give me a rough idea on what I might get?

  8. The boot panels dont line up properly, or close the boot nicelt, and theres a bit of a bend you can see inside.

My two options im looking at are:

    1) second hand low km short/long block, dont use it for trackdays. Probably a much cheaper option?

    2) rebuild engine/get replacement rebuilt shortblock, baffle sump, use for trackdays. Assuming 3k ish for the engine+whatever labour to swap?

What sort of cost would the labour be roughly for dropping the car off for whoever to do everything, or trying to get the engine out myself and just getting a new engine built. I dont really have the space/tools for taking the engine out myself, but if the labour cost is a reasonable amount to add on to the whole rebuild thing ill try sort something else out. I guess at the least I can strip as much stuff out off the engine and transport the car with the engine as bare as possible. Really need to cut the costs down as much as possible due to cost, or ill take it off the road for 6 months and save up.
