  1. What about the opposite of that? Which was the setup when i first got the car.
  2. The following pictures are of the current configuration. Just imagine that the intake is assembled as it was in the auction with a clean air filter So what i\'m seeing is that there is a map sensor fitted however, in my possession it has never been connected and instead the AFM and factory intake piece are plugged in? The photo below shows this with a bit of imagination. The following photo is of the map sensing bits (for lack of a better term): The Denso part 22012-AA090 was always connected but the part next to it (DPS-320-3000A) was never connected. This photo shows what used to be a hose fitting connecting the small RED hose to the part Denso DPS-320-3000A. This is where the mechanic removed the "tee piece" When the link is fixed ill be needing some information on how to connect all the sensors and hoses correctly. As always any feedback and help is appreciated. Here\'s just an engine bay pic minus washer bottle and intake assembly.
  3. Would the ecu face any issues with the afm in? Given that it\'s not programmed at that point to not take a reading from it I see no issues. But as I say I\'m completely new to this.
  4. Will find out when my link is repaired. I am almost certain it was because difference in power is outstanding. But I think old owner removed something in the engine bay. Because mechanic said there was no map sensor on the car but there was an empty plug and a tee piece in some lines which mechanic removed? Will post some pictures up soon as I\'ve not owned a tuned car before. Also when he fitted factory ecu and my factory afm the car stalled out. So he inserted his and it was all fine.
  5. Thanks for all the help. Appreciate any comment with possible solutions. Was crazy to see the similarities between the mechanics work and the suggestions posted. Just didn\'t want to go chasing something electrical so in the end off she went to the mechanic. Highly recommend Petermark\'s garage. Really, really great service and some very knowledgeable guys. Will post more pictures in the garage section soon. Final words determined that the fault was firstly the AFM followed by the ECU. Shit happens.
  6. I got from my mechanic. Lucklily he had another gc8 in the garage so we then knew exactly what to get! Got for a better price than at Subaru. Typical dealership gave me a legacy part...
  7. So if anyone needs the solution to this problem here it is!!
  8. I thought it was undersold too. She looks cleaner in person Gotta love dollar reserves!
  9. The car is now looking a lot cleaner than before and has a few goodies not mentioned on the auction.. 280kmph/10k rpm speedo all genuine on carjam. The car must have been imported with this already on as wagons dont have DCCD as far as im aware. The D2 adjusties are track spec camber, damper and height. 5Zigen 17" rims with near new Eagle f1\'s (about 6mm) all directional. Possumlink ecu as we now know. Kevlar underbody and cusco underbody brace. This is what I know of so far... I need to speak to possumbourne as the underbody and ECU are supplied by them I believe. Will post some updated pics of the car when she\'s back home!
  10. Some pictures finally. Inside... As for the car here\'s the auction i bought from http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=611091905
  11. Got a call from the mechanic this morning and car is up and running! No mechanical issues at all. Thank god. Although im not looking forward to paying for labour... Also sent some pictures to link (which showed as broken links when i posted them yesterday) and they gave me the names of the parts that i need to fix the circuit. My neighbour says he can do this for around $10. Also as it turns out the chip that was cracked controls the ignition, fuel pump and injection i believe. All makes perfect sense now and i\'m going to pick up tomorrow. Will probably ask to borrow the mechanics air flow meter (for the drive home) as i returned mine. Looking to get the link ecu plugged in and running as soon as possible.
  12. Thanks, have seen his post on my thread will pm him and ask for his opinion.
  13. It would be nice to run both because my fuel economy is terrible with the link in. Also I could use the link for the track and the stock for road use? The link is running 18psi and quite rich. Is that what you meant by get the tune adjusted?
  14. Thanks EVOWRX for the advice I gave them a call today and their technical support was bloody brilliant. Nice to know there\'s a company that\'s not looking to pay minimum wage for phone support (either that or wohever answered loves his job!). As you say even if it\'s a 30min wait its better than waiting at all for a useless sky employee. So it is indeed repairable and they quoted a generous $100-$150 (over the phone) + Gst and shipping i\'d imagine. Step forwards finally! Dropped my new ECU with the mechanic and he said that either today or Monday he\'ll get onto it. So i\'m hoping she fires and runs well with the factory board in place. With no O2 and the possibility of the AFM being wired out it will be interesting! Either way I can pop the link back in if its not fantastic. Just have to pray that the chip that\'s cracked hasn\'t got anything too important on it because i doubt they can pull whatever has been programmed in and transfer it. As for the board it\'s a "Possumlink WRX series 5" so perhaps it\'s time to give Possumbourne Motorsport and ask them if they know anything about the car. Ill post some pictures soon. Potential culprit is a loose battery terminal. There was a plastic spacer on the bracket that fits on to the terminal and it wasn\'t secured to the terminal with the spacer in. However, I don\'t believe it was loose enough to do anything beside marginally wiggle side-to-side. Nothing that i would think could be fatal.
  15. No luck there. Phone call will hopefully do it given they don\'t ask me to many technical questions. All the codes on the chips have faded. Not to mention the one that needs replacing is burnt and cracked...
  16. I had exactly that in mind. My neighbour designs circuits for an electronics company so I will ask him to have a look at it for me and may pop in to see link (if they have a physical location here) or maybe a tuning company like ST Hitec? Not 100% sure what my plans are for the ECU at this stage. I still have the priority of getting my car up and running first of all! I really do hope the ecu can go back in as it was a pleasure to drive when she actually ran. But for now im assuming that the factory ecu will do the job of getting her back into the driveway. As for the AFM I had been wondering the same things. I will find out tomorrow or friday and post how things work out for me. The car was running an AFM but not an o2 sensor which is why ive been in contact with you EVOWRX but as for now im not 100% sure i need it. Will give you a yell if I do!
  17. Cars been running from around 2007 on that tune given the age of the board. So i doubt that it is a bad tune. As for all the smoke I can only hope that it was the ECU\'s doing. If not i\'m in for a lot more in costs looking for the issue in the wiring... Mechanic said due to the amount of smoke described he can only guess that an injector was being held open or that one of the seals has perished allowing fuel to pour into a cylinder.
  18. Joker i thought you were right in the beginning and the mechanic also had suspicions of the Mongoose alarm having "shat itself." Today i\'m guttered... Turns out she was running a fully tuned link ecu and one of the chips has blown... Back to stock power....I had no idea lol. Will be strange to drive her back to stock once i put a factory ecu back in. Im hoping that my over fueling issues are also solved with the factory board back in place! However once shes started up again there could be more troubles from there.. The electrics in the car may have even spiked the ECU.. Will let you all know in a few days time once I have a new unit and its in place.
  19. Heard back from the mechanic today. He hasn\'t been able to get the car started at all and it is definitely an electrical issue with the car. As for the idle and smoke well the car needs to be started first to get to that. He told me that almost nothing is getting any power on the turn of the key. Even the ECU! Mechanic seemed pretty confident about the issue so i\'m hoping he\'ll have found the issue by tomorrow afternoon and that we can progress and have the car running.
  20. Lucky ive got a new one on the way then! Will drop it off with the mechanic on tuesday. Thanks for the response
  21. Checked the fuel and ignition systems today (well what i felt i was capable of checking). Checked the injectors and checked the resistance running through each which was between 12 and 13 ohms. Fuel pump which is not priming on start up and ran fine with direct current from the battery. Fuel lines that had no leaks and were all full of fuel. Ignition leads that had a little corrosion but not enough to stop a spark. Spark plugs that look almost new Lastly the basics (battery fluid and fuses) all of which were okay. So i decided to put her together again and she\'ll be towed to a mechanic tomorrow... At the moment I think I have two issues and electrical issue on start up and the mechanical issue mentioned above. I hope they\'re linked and that solving one solves the other.
  22. Not taking the piss mate just describing what i hear, see and smell. I just found this thread on NASIOC that could be my issue also it goes back to Koom\'s suggestion of the open injector. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1123024 I know the smell of oil burning as i\'ve had to replace rocker gaskets before. It\'s not oil and coolant burns a lot sweeter than what i smell. Its definitely the car running rich however, that doesn\'t eliminate the possibility of it being something internal... Who knows i could be a complete idiot?! I have read a lot of comments (on other threads) with people linking the problem to a head gasket or piston issues but for now i\'d like to stay positive about the issue. Will do some diagnosis tomorrow and post what i find. Thanks again for input. For now I hope that either myself or Koom is right!
  23. That doesn\'t sound good will try to avoid that. Was hoping to get a cheap AFM on trade me but it seems the one in the car has been replaced before... So i bought a new part that is fit for the car. Hope it pays off! Anyone know which AFM a V5 STI wagon would have?
  24. smoke from burnt oil is a lot thicker than what i experienced and as i described it smelt of petrol. I only took it for two mins around the block and when something goes wrong running the car and eliminating possibilities is a good start. and if it was oil as you mentioned is a possibility it could\'ve been that it was time for a new turbo. You can usually hear this when boosting. Thanks for the response.
