Finally sussed out my crackly reception on the radio. Found the muppet who installed the band expander had just wrapped the expanders 12v feed wire around the headunit feed and added some nice loose electrical tape. Re did it with a proper connector and 'poof' the problems gone
haha, same thing happened to me, you'd think dealers would be a bit better equipped if they're installing band expanders all the time.

I think I was fairly lucky on the house that me and my fiancee now share, good timing meant the housing prices in CHCH weren't completely crazy.
At the time I had 20% deposit myself. The house was very solid but very original, which turned off many buyers I'd say, 60's combination of wallpaper, carpet and paint is not very pretty anymore. I purchased at 26.
Now we've completely renovated and we plan on paying off the mortgage before moving on.
Being in Auckland it must be tough, if you could consider buying elsewhere in the country and make a shift you might find it easier to fit your budget.
-
I'd say so, it's only 20ps difference so combination of drivetrain and smaller turbo should do it.
The auto's will spool a tiny bit quicker due to the smaller turbo, but other than that the difference probably isn't too noticeable.

Another option is upgrading your VF38 with VF34 internals, a lot of the guys in Aus take that path and seems to work well.
-
same thing applies to all the S* models, need to prove ownership before you can buy the parts.
you could try finding replicas on ebay?

Japan didn't make obd2 standard until later on, it'll definitely have an obd2 port but it may not support many obd2 commands.
Don't be suprised if those bluetooth adapters don't do anything because of this, but a wired cable with the FTDI chipset should let you run the freessm/leearningview/romraider apps to get some info.

I've just got bilsteins from a newer model (2005 I think) in mine. Actually raised it by a fraction compared to the original bilsteins which were shot.
Being in CHCH though means even the bilsteins are too hard for our roads at the moment.

there's a few nice 4th gen Outback XT's in the States, the bumpers look mean colour matched to the car and lowered to standard height.
such as:

Very doable:
The piping that goes to the y-pipe had to be cut and turned. The tips had to get extended because its a wagon. New hangershttp://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/2011-sti-mufflers-wagon-178311.html

you could try getting one shipped from Aus? might get better results, have a look on liberty.asn.au, you might be able to pick up one used.

the JDM's all were twin scroll, got VF47's or VF49's or something like that, but yeah none had the VF52.
They should know about those turbo's though as the NZDM models were all 2.5's like the US and Aus, maybe not VF46 so much.

is the noise coming from the rear, front, left, right? Might be a buggered shock or two?

if your car has them they should be called isofix, google images has a bunch of examples:
haha, well I was obviously pointing you in the wrong direction, ignore me

I'd be struggling to think they would void a claim based on that
Not like it affects a wof, or is even checked for
A mechanical warranty sure it would have an impact, but it's not something which is really a) noticable or b) changing the value or theft risk of it
A set of big wheels or an easily pinchable stereo is another story tho
My completely uneducated opinion is you'd have to have the worlds most ridiculously thorough and pedantic assessor to try and void a payout
Yeah that's what I would expect as well, but they do it all the time, I've heard of some ridiculous reasons for policy's being voided, to me it's disgusting what they can get away with, but they will do anything they can to avoid paying out.
-
Mine didn't change with a downpipe and a set of mufflers, just as long as you're honest with them, you don't want to give them any reason to void your claim down the track when you actually need them for something.
You can have up to 3 modifications to your vehicle with state before they'll think about voiding your policy.
My fiance is a supervisor at state claims, so if you have any questions i'll try ask them tonight for ya.

@syphe
Out of interest, if yours is the newer defi controller, where did you end up putting the interface/little thing with the buttons? Still struggling to find a spot i'm happy with.
Definately have to go black face for me, night time setting matches the dash perfectly
I originally had it in the glove box, but I'm putting my carputer stuff in there so needed to make room, I've now got it attached using cable ties on the kick panel above the drivers pedals (right above my clutch pedal if that helps), with all the wires tucked into the kick panel I don't hit it at all with my feet.

Yeah the fact that they didn't have a mandrel bender and would have to order bends in, should have been enough of a sign for me to take it to Christchurch.
Well you'll have to pop up here anyway to one of the meets to show off your new setup
I'm sure I'm not the only one who's keen to see it running.
-
I just relocated my boost gauge to the dash yesterday, as you say, much easier to use in a clear spot.

cryo did mine, was the first 2.0L he dealt with, since then I think he's done one or two.
He's very helpful and great to deal with, and I couldn't be happier with my tune.
on the 5MT 3rd gear is getting up close to 150km/h, so yeah instant loss of licence territory. I did my logging at Ruapuna here during their test days, $20 for half hour sessions was reasonable enough for me and meant I could do it completely legal, worth a look to see if there are any racetracks up near you which do something similar.
-
probably not worth it taking it somewhere to get a drive through tune, but if you're happy tinkering with the cables and doing the logging yourself there are a number of vendors who can get good gains without a downpipe.
-
I think I got mine from japanparts, but yeah, similarly pricey.
also, have not forgotten about this project, so may as well provide a quick update.
I have replaced the screen with a 7 inch unit which fills the bezel leaving no gaps. the unit is all sitting in place at the moment, with an hdmi cable, 5v, and the usb touchscreen cable routed into the glovebox.
I had the raspberry pi all setup for a number of weeks, however pulled it out to make a few modifications.
- losing power to the pi meant things would not be saved to the sd card, so have bought a little circuit which will allow it to shutdown gracefully, this just arrived, so will hope to get it all wired in on the weekend.
- adding a wifi dongle to host a wifi AP, planning on using this to cast my android screen, will post up a video when I have some results

Cryo did mine last year, it was his first JDM twin scroll, and I can't fault the results at all.
I have a subtech downpipe, with a cat welded in straight after.
Biggest thing is all the torque I now get before boost kicks in, makes it way more drivable, and boost holds alot flatter up top so doesn't feel like it runs out of puff as soon.
If you can't find a private road to do your logging on, you could try hit up your local speedway. I did all my logging at Ruapuna here during there twice a week testing days, $20 for half an hour let me jump on the track get some logging done then get back to work within the hour.
Another option is Kido over in Aus, who is a bit more expensive but has more experience on our market cars.
Also gotasuby on the forums here fro CHCH may be able to do some e-tuning for you.
