How can I tell if the IACV is stuck open. Can you \'open\' it to have a look inside and its obvious or ....?
-
-
As a quick guess I\'d be looking towards either a MAF problem or air leak
Orrrr the IACV thing is jammed wide open
Does the idle "hunt" or just sit at a steadyish 2000?
Doesn\'t hunt but revs are very high. If the IACV is stuck open I\'m presuming its stuffed and I need a new one...?
Cheers

Hi All,
I have just bought an Impreza to get me to the snow. Only catch with this one is that it has the following symptoms that I\'m hoping someone has come across before or may be able to offer suggestions...
Car starts and runs fine apart from a strong smell of exhaust fumes as its warming up. If you take it for a drive, it drives fine. When you come to a stop the engine idles at around 2000RPM. Its CHEWING through the gas
I\'m thinking of the following...
Remove and clean IACV
Cleaning out the throttle body with upper engine cleaner (just with the air intake off)
Replace MAF sensor (not too sure how likely its this)
Car doesn\'t have any codes logged. Any help appreciated.

So since yesterday have been having a bit of trouble engaging first gear, have to almost force it in, all other gears seem fine, just a pain in the ass when stopping at lights etc having to try shove it back in
is a 5 speed gearbox out of a 96 BD5b/c leggy
I don't launch etc, clutch is operational
could this just be from worn synchros?
fingers crossed, any advice appreciated otherwise time to start saving for a new box
sometimes you just need a little lube

555 is also lucky number in China ...

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo
5 is associated with the negative.
As in not prosperous or not lucky.
The only time 5 is lucky is when used in a double-negative.
Eg 54, not death.
8 is the lucky number.
I was thinking the same

trying to figure if mine is running too rich and as a result is using way too much fuel .
funny thing is thou ...car showed empty today done 320 km but tank was "Full" after just 45 litres . Petrol tank is supposed to be 60L right ?

Haha I love this *hit, ar'nt you at uni smurff?
Reminds me of the shit kicker I had to show how to use a broom the other day, miles away on a building site dreaming of a life in finance but can't sort the basics, destined to work at maccas with a degree (my sincere apologies if you are not at uni, seem to remember it from somewhere)

Aaaaah, so it has happened before! Maybe this is a 3-plug BE/BH issue... But WHY is the big question, hmmmmmmm.
member sorting my auto sparkys back to front wiring, I get same CEL code maybe once every 2 weeks, seems to happen when you start car then turn off for whatever reason then start again quite quickly again. As mentioned above doesnt effect driving whatsoever so have just lived with it. Strange though, my guess was diff pressure sensor not liking ssq controller over ridding it (you prob already know that though)
cheers
