Anything modern Subaru gearbox should fit without toooooo much grief.
Although from Mighty Car Mods and their "new" Gramps, they had to modify the crossmember to fit a GD series 6 speed.
I feel like maybe a BP Legacy 6 speed plus crossmember might be a better option.
Also if the ECU also includes the TCU (don't know if they're standalone or what) it will freak out. If the Legacy 3.0R was ever built with a manual, I'd try and get the entire shooting match (box, crossmember, axles (?), ECU from one of them.
Also the final drive ratio may not match the existing diff, so you'll need that too, and the driveshaft length may be different too.
Roger, I thought that would be the case.
Pity manual Outbacks are rarer than toothed hens, they would be perfect for what he wants!

Do any of you fine people know which gearbox and associated gubbins one would need, to convert a BPE 3litre Outback to a proper box, as in manual!
Some nutbar bloke what that I know is considering such a swapsies.

Stuck a can of Upper cylinder cleaner through it.
OMGWTFBBQ!! How much crap came out the exhaust!!
Where did it all come from? there cant be that much space inside the engine!!
But oh boy oh boy oh boy did it make a difference, engine revs better with less farting around, seems to make moar powah (which may just be me imagining things, but you never know!) and idles smoother.
Next thing on the list, spark plugs this weekend.

Works sweet as for me.

Looked up my chassis code and it appears that my care was manufactured in July 1998. The change over point for Legacys is 1999. Is there any point writing to the to tell them that there is no difference between a July 1998 BH legacy and a January 1999 BH legacy? Would my car still be a MY99?
It is a tad silly that your car is apparently different from my 2000 GTB, even though the chassis is identical.
I think some herp derping has gone on at ACC or whoever was in charge of the classification debacle!

Yep, its pretty black or dark grey smoke smoke!
Not white or blue anyway which is a good thing.
You should be able to hear if your BOV is venting at the time, I can hear it from inside my car!

Are they really that bad?
I suddenly feel less crappy about the fuel consumption of my petrol Surf, which is pretty monstrous (~14L/100KM)
Yes...
Theoretically you could get 550k/ tank, but you'd have to run it completely dry!
I start looking for servo's at 400, looking really hard at 450!
Mind you my fuel gauge does that weird thing of dropping to empty randomly, so I don't trust it even when it isnt on E.
-
I'm using about 11-12 litres/100k in my BH5 GTB, driving like a nana...
So as its about 650k each way, that would be approximately 150 litres of fuel total, at say $2.10 a litre that's about $315.
Make cents?
Of course one would have to resist using the loud pedal too much to achieve that... easier said than done!
(Dammit, Ninja'd by boon!)

Found it! Removed it, will see if it makes stuff happen tomorrow.

Mine had a pill in the hose 10 between the manifold and the BOV, ran rather weird without it, so might pay to check its still there.

I bought it a towbar, which may need some hacking to fit as its for a Lancaster, but I can has big hammerz and der weldurp!!

So I found the battery earth terminal was loose as a goose, tightened that, and we'll see if that helps.
Still can't find the dodgy stereo connection, the right channel keeps dropping to about half volume randomly, annoying!

Epic thread dredge!
Has anyone bought any of this high tech evil chemical recently, and if so how much was it?
-
I'm somehow inclined to say alternator is going funny, that's all I can think of.
Might be worth seeing if the stereo and the ECU share a ground somewhere down near the footwell, though.
Usually the stereo gets a bonus ground though, through the case being metal and the cage it sits in being welded to the car.
Ahh, true, will check that point.
The stereo does have a dodgy connection somewhere anyway, might fix that see if it fixes both issues.

He hates auto's, even in luxo-sleds.
And club fields, some of their roads are... dodgy at the best of times, let alone with snow on them.
He also like going into the boonies and running/ mountain biking in strange places at the end of tracks which a "normal" car wont make it down.
