I've changed the engine in a Datsun 120Y in 45 minutes, 3 blokes who know what they're doing, no crane other than the 2 biggest blokes!
Activities like that could be why my back is now poked, but it was amusing at the time!

Nice repair in the stripped thread, a lot cheaper than buying a helicoil kit!

does anyone here own a factory rsrb ? can anyone provide information on these factory modified models and possible upgrades
I own a BH5 GTB RSRB, I even have the front bumper lip thingy, its in teh garage tho, because CHCH roads.
It has the spoiler on the rear door, side skirts, and the grill thingy, not sure if the rear bumper is different?
As far as I know its all purely cosmetic stuff, mechanically it seems to be identical to any other GTB.

Manufacturer tow ratings aren't enforceable:
"Most vehicles have tow ratings given to them by the manufacturer specifying the gross trailer weight braked, unbraked, or both, that the vehicle can safely tow. Although the law does not require these tow ratings to be followed, the NZ Transport Agency recommends that they be taken into account."
The only enforceable law for lightweight towing vehicle I know of is this:
"the law requires that every light vehicle and trailer combination must be capable of stopping within a distance of seven metres from a speed of 30km/h."

Edit: Insurance may open a different can or worms
Interesting...
7m is a long way at 30kph.

I know over here it's only rated to 1400 kg, but after using a terrano rated to a lot more and it being a bloody terrible tow vehicle, I tried the forester and it's just way better.

The legacy we used to take the car to Mansfield was way better too.
Hmmm, Im not sure I'd want to tow 1800kg with a 1450kg vehicle, also it may be illegal here, which would void any insurance etc if anything happens.

Put a tow bar on the forester. By all accounts in the uk they are rated to 1800kg towing and a lot of guys tow race cars with them.
1800kg is a lot!
I'd check here clicky clicky see if those dudes agree.

Mine did that when the knock sensor was poked, but not quite poked enough to trigger a CEL.

Thanks for all the advise so far. Got my bonus today so will be going in and getting a jack and axle stands this weekend!! Any point getting 4 stands or just 2? Will let you know what I get. (Also depends on how much I have left after buying the missus an engagement ring!)
Get 4 stands if you can, makes changing exhausts etc much easier.
