  1. Not trying to be a dick or anything but surely from a warranty standpoint they won't see a tune as any more warranty breaching than the other mods. Plus chances are the typical technician wouldn't have a clue that the ROM on the ECU is anything other than stock.

Intakes are one of those things suggested not to be done without knowing for certain the new tube reads the same as the stock one. Very easy to go outside the ECU's adjustment range without feeling there's an issue.

I understand, I've read all about intakes and needing tunes. K&N website says tune isn't required but you should still tune. With the latest generation ECU's they can tell your top speed, revs, g forces etc. When I took my CVT WRX in to claim warranty on the transmission blowing up they sent a image of the ECU to Subaru Japan, they sent back my top speed of 240kmh and max revs of the vehicle's redline. They also made note that my car had semislick tire's (Same as the ones I have on my STi) and voided warranty because Subaru Japan determined that I tracked the vehicle.

  2. Mine also made a cool scraping noise when I drove up steep driveways. Not so much since I got fatter tyres, though.

I hit driveways on a angle and still scrape. Also end up on 2-3 wheels and the traction control has a fit...

  3. Car wash? Lazy bugger - do it yourself

Nah haha $16 gives full foam and spray then wax and dry, much easier. Then get a detail job done every 2-3 months and stay ontop of the carwash and wax :P

  4. I'd be worried that it would swing into the bumper and wear the paint...

OEM Vortex Generator is essentially for looks. Unless it is tested in a wind tunnel and the fins are narrow enough, it ain't going to really do anything effective in reality.

Car wash smacks mine into the bumper but hey, a respray is only $350 :P and when I launch it flops out from the g's

It's your car and you can do what you want with it, by why sully a very expensive car with a piece of S*** like that?
Do you actually track it, and have a need to be pulled out backwards from time to time?
If you did need to have the car recovered by that point, you owe it to the person towing you out not to use a horrid piece of junk that might snap at any moment and damage a person or vehicle.

Nah haven't tracked it - Yet. It's purely for looks. The rear is boring without something to break it up like the tow hook. Plus starts heaps of conversations like "what's this for?" "Does it break down often"

  6. is the toweye the latest in jdm bling ?

    someone might nick it

does the vortex generator work better with a rear spoiler, as on the evo ix/x ?

The tow eye cost me like $10 off of aliexpress, anyone can nick away

It sounds very much like money is not a terribly huge issue for either yourself or your parents, insure it with Classic Cover or the other crowd that doesn't suck and go to town on it.
Actually I suspect Classic Cover won't cover drivers under 25...

A new STI at 17, I assume they took out a very large life insurance policy on you, or they don't like you very much

I haven't come close to crashing it once, I had a 2010 Legacy GT that was tuned and much quicker than my STi. Will enquire with classic cover. Dad just said he'd rather see me enjoy his money than me enjoy it after he's passed lol

    that's a sizeable $1560pa !

    conducks;
is the car registered in your name or your folks ' name ?

My STi per year through NAC was gonna be $4,700. And it is registered under my mum's name

  8. Insurance is well wise to the "just a named driver" thing, and I have heard of cases where the insurer went "okay so, when's the last time you actually drove the vehicle? Oh never? Okay no payout for you."

If you can afford 30k of car and you're still living at home, you can afford to do things properly. It's all good to hope it's fine until you rear end a range rover and find they decline the claim

They are also well aware that regardless of what your warranty says about it, a straight pipe is an obvious modification. Just play it safe man

On that note, crashed mine the other morning  On the plus side, my excess is less than what I was going to pay to get the front end resprayed so there's a silver lining to it

I was gonna jump on board NAC for $94 a week but my parents told me to leave the car stock and stay with their insurance. They bought the car for me so I'm pretty bound to what they say goes. Was a surprise as well but I don't think they realised how hard it was gonna be to get insurance for a brand new 60k STi with 17 year old driver

  9. and it won't just be the insurance company.
do they know it's not really your mum's car they are insuring ?

all those mods on a new car are likely to tear up the factory warranty too.

I'm listed as a driver, and cat back exhaust doesn't effect warranty. Blow off valve is questionable. Otherwise rest is stock

Fine with the intake and exhaust mods

Haha um mum was calling our broker tomorrow regarding that

  10. HAHA that's utter BS!!!

Easy to get insurance at 18 on a lot of cars, just not brand new or high performance unless you are prepared to pay a lot for it

I'm only paying about 600 a year with my car under mum's name and me as a driver but insurance is against it being modified past a point where it effects the car's driving. I've gotten quotes from a bunch of other companies and it's gonna work out to be about 4-5k a year/$90-$100 a week for full cover, which compared to 600 isn't worth it just so I can have adjusties...

  11. Following running my airbox without the front and loving the sound of the turbo spooling I went ahead and ordered some sort of air filter thingy for my 2016 STi, cost a pretty penny ($380) and am yet to pay for shipping from the US (Using NZ Post's YouPost) but I'll post photos once installed. Photo posted now is one of the intake installed fron Google Images.
