  1. What's the smoke like out the back of your car? Get a mate to rev it while in your driveway and watch. If black its a sign you're running too rich. I'd suggest changing fuel filter spark plugs and running some strong injector cleaner in your fuel tank.

If that doesn't fix it time to test your afm with a multimeter and possibly clean.

Let us know how it goes.
No smoke whatsoever, just the occasional flame rev-matching on decel

  2. Hi there everyone, I have a 1998 WRX GF8 and was wondering if anyone could advise me as to why my car is randomly using a lot more fuel. Just started happening and causes backfiring to occur, the only mods I have done are 3" Siamese downpipe and that's all

Any help will be greatly appreciated

  3. So I just bought some coilovera for my Legacy to get rid of that lovely Bilstien knock, I was just wondering if anyone has any idea if there's anything I'll run into which will slow down the install as I'm looking at putting them in over a day

  4. So I've got a bit of a tough one for everyone, sice my last post was related to horrible shock knocking I need some help on a decision for coilovers Tein Flex Z or BC Golds? They're going into a 2008 Bp5 Spec.B

Some people tell me to go for the Teins but some people have said not to touch them with a twn foot pole I need help!!

  5. Still have to get some bits, planning to go to the hose shop in Avondale. They should have all the needed bits.
Not sure what size hose is needed, planning to just bring the sensor thingy with me and let them do the rest

If they dont have what you want give Repco New Lynn a try, I know that they have T pieces and various vac hose

  6. Whip the rubber cover off the top of the strut and try push up and down repeatedly with the weight being pushed on the strut tower whilst holding the struts top nut. One of mine has a heap of movement and the other none at all.

And does this tell me if its the shock or not?

  7. 3 things, 2 are more likely.

Bilstein, control arm bush or bearing.

Its not very likely to be a bearing.

Can you describe where and when you get the clunk?

To be honest it occurs at random times and it doesn't always repeat itself if you repeat the movement that made it click/clunk previously hence why im stumped

  8. Hey guys, I have a 2008 Spec B wagon and I recently noticed a knocking/clicking from the front left of the car but its very intermittent and I'm totally unsure if its the bilstein that's giving out or the wheel bearing so I was wondering if anyone would know or could help me out.a96e18f36cb176f9837bf45c4ab0be82.jpg

  9. So I have a GF8 version 2 Wrx with the pre airbag Nardi wheel and i moticed that this morning it started to flake away and noticeably make black marks on my hands

First of all I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find another lively Nardi wheel in good condition and secondly if its not possible I was wondering if I could buy an aftermarket wheel but without the hassle of a boss kit?

No such thing as stupid questions bud.

First off, if you're not already, run on 98 as above. Actually Does make a difference.

As far as RPM's you're right it should be sitting around 800rpm, however there are some cars out there that don't at all.

For a tank of gas, you're best off at 50-60 (60kph is more efficient than 50 believe it or not) to sit in 4th and when under load just hook third and away you go.

EDIT: I also get approximately 500km from my Type RA.

Thanks for that! I'll give running on 98 a go and hopefully that makes a difference as I'm only getting about 400kms per tank unfortunately and might even bring my idle rpm down

  11. Hi Guys

I have a few questions which I feel quite stupid abut asking but hey, what are forums for?

I have a 1994 GF8 WRX Wagon and I had a few questions about engine bits and pieces. So living in Auckland and being a student means that I am strapped for cash. I was wondering what kind of mileage everyone was getting from a full tank of 95 as I'm not too sure if she's just a bit gas hungry or it might just be the way that I drive. I was also wondering what rpm everyone cruises at? in the city for example in a 50km/hr zone is it better to tick over in 4th at 2000rpm or is it better to chop into 3rd at about 2500 - 3000rpm?

Another question I have is about idle speed, I've heard that my EJ20 should idle at about 800rpm but mine idles at 1000 - 1200 rpm even when warm. I have done the basics of cleaning the AFM, throttle body and I even went as far as cleaning 21 years of crud out of the IACV but still nothing, she still happily idles at 1000- 1200rpm.

    Sorry for the stupid questions

    Coils or leads?

Have you had a check engine light?

Have you checked the  CEL codes?(do you know how?)

Havent had a check engine light, the leads are fine and I wouldnt have a clue about CEL?

Give the idle air control valve a good clean out with carby cleaner. If it only ever does it when it's cold, or only when it's warm it could be a faulty coolant temp sensor. If it's always low or erratic then it's more likely a vacuum leak somewhere.

Here's some diagnosis info from a recent thread with similar problems:

I'm gonna clean the intake and throttle body soon!

  13. Hi guys

I recently bought a 1994 GF8 Wagon and things have been going quite good until the past couple of days.

When I start up Ilet the car warm up for 3 - 4 minutes and head off. This morning was the worst it has been as I drove out of my driveway and sat at the traffic lights just down the road. All of a sudden the revs started droppingat an alaming rate and it nearly stalled so I responded with a blip of the throttle, the revs raised but then they came back down again, almost as if it was going to stall...

Im not too sure what it could be or how to go about fixing it and being a poor student I dont really have any money to take it to a mechanic.

    Any advice would be great!!

  14. Hi guys, I bought a 94 wrx wagon the other day and I only noticed today that i was loosing coolant from somewhere... after some inspection I realised that the passenger footwell was rather wet and smelling like coolant.. great

Anyone know anyway to fix this? Need advice asap
