tomorow ring 0800 108 809 listen to the options and try and get an oprator, tell them you looking at buying this car,and was wondering if it has lapsed of not, then you will know for sure.
This should get you the answers however it can sometimes be luck getting someone who is actually willing to help especially if you were not the last registered owner of the vehicle, when you call have the origianl rego number handy and if in doubt ask for a team leader.
If you have any problems getting direct answers PM me the Rego and VIN and i can do all the relevant chacks for you, and let you know exactly what needs to be done.

So could I strip it myself and take it down there in bits?
I would contact the inspection centre to see if they are charging for the vehicle to be stripped, you may find with companies like VTNZ or teh AA that they have a set pricing scheme that is non negotiable, and if your paying, might as well let em do it

I hate to admit it, but i have spent hours on the phone with the LTNZ call centre, working for a company that complies 60+ cars a month has me on a first name basis with a couple of there call centre reps
