That is my only brumby , pretty much giving up on project cars as i dont have time/money to do them justice :(

BUT as I still have both the brumby and the RX who knows what may happen.

Ok mate, should i make an offer on the webber?? Help a brother out! The guy came round and collected the spare canopy and bought a small bull-bar from me for 100. He got a hard-case brumby for cheap on TM, and was doing a trip for a month b4 returning to Kazakstan (no not Borat)!

Did you see that 1990 with the 16in rims and the SJ all-wheel drive conversion go for 2600 in chch? Was looking a bit of alright, but needed COF and not sure it would b easy if he only redrilled the original hubs!

1/No brumby came with an EA82 from factory ??? rad expansion tank I should have one here somewhere.

    2/ nope

3/ yes the brumby can go for $500 includes the Weber carby and mount

Thanks for the quick reply mate.

He probably misquoted on the EA82, or its been retro-fitted? Ill find out. How much for the expansion tank and shipping?

I don\'t need a whole brumby, nor have space for it :( But im dead keen on the carby and mount, assuming it makes a significant difference to power and efficiency of my meak EA81. I know I could do an engine swap, but i want to keep my 4wd Hi-Low. Any suggestions? Otherwise, could u replace the carby with a stock (even mine) and sell me the webber?

Much appreciated, shame u giving up on the brumby...u got another tho aye (or two or five?)?

  3. Hi Guys,

In the interest of space im adding multiple comments on this topic ;)

    1. A guy in auckland is asking for an expansion tank for his EA82, 1991 Brumby. Thought I\'d check with u fullaz. I told him about the site, but he\'s a computer fetus (nerd being full capability, baby being uses internet). Still walking him through an internet payment for my old canopy?! Anyhow, does anyone have one?

    2. I have a rear window for sale, now that i got the rare sliding window rear. Anyone need one? I can also keep for spare.

    3. We Are Borg...who is selling that $500 Brumby? I really just want the aftermarket carbie. Is it a webber? 8)

yeah that would be my understanding as well, the only reason why i asked is that extracting the axle out of the outer Cv is at best a bother and and worse it is gas axe time :)

I know I would rather go to the likes of BNT and spend a wee bit more and get one which includes the axle as well.

Yeah, im currently undecided. I\'ve got a bit of a wobbly shake that comes into the steering wheel from time to time and the CV boot is split. I have to take her in for a wof in a couple weeks, but regardless of that I need to fix it. Not regularly driving (got the motorbike), so can also wait, but not sure if I should replace the outer CV or talk to BNT. The axle looks ok still...but its a risk.

Nice to catch up with you again...hows your brumby(s) going? I finally got 15s also, but just steelies painted black. They came with brand new tyres, 5wheels, and only $250. Snowtyres tho, so ill replace them at half tread. Good price tho!

$60 for a new CV is pretty cheap, I would just do that, is it just the outer or does it come with the drive axle as well.

gday mate, i am trying to find more details. I already asked that question, just waiting for an answer. The TM auction is: 531534358, Brand New Subaru CV Joint. I thought it was cheap too, so was trying to find out if it will fit my brumby but it looks like its only the OUTER CV and not the drive axle also.

  6. Do the doors look familiar ;)

Just a quick message to say gday u fullaz! Good to see u guys still on here hammering away. Still driving my brumby happily also, though Im on the motorbike more than the ute! Classic car, modern bike...Buells are simply tops. Unless u want to thrash in the bush or at the beach...and then just go for the hack.

Anyhow, just saw a tear in my CV boot and there\'s a bit of vibration happening in the wheel. 60 bux apparently gets a new CV from Trademe, but thought I should check with you guys first...Let me know if you have any suggestions for getting the part etc?

In other news, just scored a dash cover, new, for 15bux...fits perfect. Shame that in the last 2yrs a couple splits have formed but now i just cover them up and walk away!!

  7. UPDATE: After years of getting nowhere, the last few months have been eventful regarding the hunt for 4x140s. I found a beautiful set of 15in superlights...in Wollongong, AUST :(

After agreeing to pay 450AUD, and then ship them over via Jetta Excess Baggage for another 300AUD (about 1000NZD all up), the seller DISAPPEARED!! Still no comms, which is odd, because he was happy to do the trade and offered them to me at 450. At the same time, there was a brumby being sold with a spare, and the spare had 4x140 turbos in 13in. I jumped without seeing them (only 50min away) and got a set of 4 average condition alloys with crap tyres for 250. And that was all just after new years.

Finally, i got a good set of 5 steel 15in 5spokes painted black with brand new tyres this week, and drove to Tauranga to collect them. Now fitted, i finally have more rubber on the road, AND a bit of extra clearance ;D

I still like the idea of changing the hubs and having more options, but for now i can say im at least satisfied. Its not my favourite and im still hunting for a set of 15in superlights or 14in alloys (these current ones are steel so a bit heavy), but least there's something there now not 13in steel! Anyone still have anything out there for me???

it not that hard to mod a spare set of hubs, then u still have the originals if u want to go back to them...

I think i know the place :) can drop them off there if we decide to go ahead with the deal

Gday mate, still hunting and trying to make a decision. could use some advice...my options are: clean up a tired set of slotted 13 mags, buy a primo set of 15in superlites in Oz for 600nzd and ship them here (another 250nzd), or put entirely new hubs on and get more options and disc brakes on the rear. No idea what the cost of the 3rd option will be...

850 is a big amount to spend on the 15in superlites, and ill need to replace 2tyres as well so really 1000. did i mention i don't really have that type of free capital? should i ask you again for your superlites at 500 or am i pushing isht uphill? i can pay you immediately and save a whole lot of other work...

happy new year and my birthday is in feb in case u want to suprise me

I think you just may have just written that all out for fun. My stud pattern is 5x100.

I have found a set a Rota Grids 18x8.5 (and purchased) so will be fitting them early next year.

Lucky u, us old school brumby owners do suffer with 4x140! I reckon posting for ur late model in the other category as well, but congrats on your new bling.

  10. Having gone through this before for the brumby, its a long road finding the right rims in 4 x 140. Cheviots are rare as, but do exist in that size, and if u got loads of cash u can get new Superlites imported from OZ for around 1500 (rims only). The other option is to drill out your hubs or get some adapters to fit 6stud like the friendly suby family here has suggested. Several have replaced hubs etc with more late model subaru and gone 5stud, but thats a job as well.

I got my eye on a set of those superlites in oz, but i gotta get my mate to pick up and send them...

So did i type all this for nothing, or do you actually have the brumby/leone stud pattern?

    Good luck

  11. Gday mate, just thought it might b better if u txt me your number, and we can have a chat. saves all the time delay here online. 02741228, if u txt me a landline or mobile ill give u a bell and we can see what we can work out if anything. cheers again, jef

    Hey Jef,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to your pm's about the rims, the spirits have sold sorry and i scrapped the rest of the 13's, no one wanted them.

The 15's I had on trademe were my spare set but I've put them back in the storage container with the rest of my early subaru gold.

I'm still thinking about listing the other sets of 14's, but I also use 14's on my Brumby trailer, so it's handy to have spares.

I'll keep an eye out for some hotwires for you and let you know if i come across any in a shed somewhere.

    Cheers

Thanks for getting back to me. I think Im keen on the 15s, and i got a mate in the south island. I was passing through 2days ago, but it would have been a mish to organise from the airport. The shipping is a big cost and all up its around 700 to get those 15s here shipped, so im trying to keep the dream alive for around 400. I paid 200 for those cheviot turbos that got knicked, and im not too keen to take a loan and get new blanks drilled. I prefer those 15s, and im hoping either i or my mate can make a trip there (he's in nelson area). If you would take 400, id pay you immediately but have to sort something for pickup. Otherwise i have to keep browsing Japan:(

I'd love the turbos in a 15, but now im really dreaming. Shame u scrapped the 13s, im sure they would have been good for someone. Even i was interested somewhat, but probably more so if we were in the same island.

I hope we can sort something with the 15s...seems like the best option to improve, not break the bank too much, and not go completely boyracer. That said, ive got what ive got, and its not heaps of cash. Let me know, i can arrange payment and [eventual] pickup

Gday DRFVDR, just letting you know im still keen but have to sit on the deal for a bit...just got work delivering a vessel overseas (im a skipper), so need to up and go! I was also looking at that first set of rims that waimaks suggested, same as your golds but in silver, on the yahoo.jp auctions. Got a guy to help with shipping, and would be about 400 for those rims all up to here...not bad, but no time to do now!! Will come back here when i get back here, but thanks for keeping the offer alive and helping out another brumby get some wheels!

I use the Google Chrome browser, and it offers to translate for you.

I'd imagine you could spend a couple hundred getting them shipped, being such bulky items, but I can't say for certain.

I have used had help from Ewan @ http://www.hayatonka.com/ to get some parts I desperately needed for my Suzuki motorbike.

He got them here for half of what Suzuki NZ were quoting me, and in under a week as opposed to 4 weeks.

Went out of his way to go a dealer and check parts listings etc. I would highly recommend.

again, cheers for the help, the name and website too. i can get DRFVDRs 13s with rubber at 300, tho i do like those 14s @8500jpy (105usd only! but probably go up as its an auction). Would be worthwhile to chat to your mate about it, maybe chuck them in2 another car getting shipped over?! i'll look him up:) cheers

Some 14' rims like Drfvdr's, shipping from Japan can be quite easy/affordable if you talk to the right people.

These are a bit more spendy, but BRAND NEW!?!

    http://page19.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/x179475445

These are quite cool I think. 13x5.5'

    http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k139797539

    Some factory alloys.

    http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b104700322

Unsure of these ones origin, possibly factory? 13'.

    http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w55102827

    Some food for thought anyway.

Mean links waimaks! Very crafty, i haven't really looked at japanese auctions. How do you search there like that? Just for 140pcd or do u read japanese?! I like those first ones, 14in with a bit of pitting. Same as DRFVDRs gold ones, just silver. Hard to organise the shipping etc tho with the language barrier. Wonder if they would cost heaps to ship??

You don't need plates as such, you just knock out 2 wheel studs out of your hub and drill 4 extra holes and install new studs :) I have one hub done at work I may take a pic tomorrow

Would b interesting to see...but no going back from there. The brumby is in pretty good knick, and altho i dont ever intend on selling it (vtnz still thinks its a 64, so its a pearler AND its cheapest car on the road), i was thinking if i did adapter plates i could always go back to 4x140. But the 6stud range is tempting!

As for the hustlers...i think my mind just looks at them and does some jedi trick to my eyes making me want to see a similar pattern! i realise they're way off (by 25.5) but wud b mean 2c hustlers on a brumby!!

Id say im keen on the alloy 13s if u got a good set with good rubber. Just gotta retrieve them. Payment can always happen via the net. My mate's brother has a bach 1km past the BP at Ohakune towards Raetihi...how far u from there? Its yellow bach green roof on about an acre (last time i was there which was ages ago) on the corner of the main road and a side road.

again, appreciate all the info. j

  17.  DRFVDR said:

    nah not even close

You could do a 6 stud conversion, this opens up a whole world of rims to choose from

yeah i thought about the 6stud conversion, but havent seen any conversion plates around to tell you the truth. I'd b happy to sneak thru wofs with the plate and not bother with the cof and the cost, if only i could find some. I know they sell in oz, but not cheap there! Saw a set go for 150 on TM, but i missed it sadly.

  18. actually really hard to imagine those blacks on the brumby! did u ever fit? how'd they look? those other 14s wud b amazing if they were brushed alloy and not white (can't tell in pic). Oh are they GOLD? random.

    Cheers for sharing pics!

As for 13s vs 14s on a brumby (not that i have the choice here), any real benefit? Its not a huge diff, its not a huge increase in clearance, and id expect 14in tyres harder to source than 13? what u reckon?

i think i still like the 13s anyway, but something tough looking about those turbos and tridents!
