On my 2002 Forester the keyless remote became intermittent in its operation and then stopped working completely.
I got a new battery put in the key fob and this made no difference; remote still not working.
Faced with the thought of spending mega dollars to replace the key / system I did a long search of the internet and eventually found this:
"Replace the old battery with a new battery- Outback, Legacy and Tribeca CR1620 battery, Forester and Impreza CR2025 battery- or equivalent. Negative side up. After the battery is replaced, the transmitter must be synchronized with the system’s control unit. Press either the Lock or Unlock remote button 6 times to synchronize the unit"
So, in desperation, rather than expectation of success I pointed the remote at the car, pressed the 'lock' button six times, waited a couple of seconds and then pressed the 'open' button.
It worked!

- the STI Forester auto that I bought last year has a TD04L turbo, whereas I understand the standard turbo Forester is a TD04. I also read somewhere that there is a different suspension set-up from the standard model.
And I would agree that the 0-60 time is probably in the low 6's; it also pulls well in the 80kph+ overtaking speeds.

.... this story from today's Dominion Post shows everything that some people think is wrong with Subarus.
From twitter feeds I think the accident happened about 6pm last night in clear, dry weather.
My thoughts are with the poor young girls

cheers, Jared - have a good one, one and all!

Hi there,
I went for the remove-able tow bar to save my shins and also an automatic cut-out for the electrics, so any wiring issues with a hire trailer wouldn't short circuit the car.
Prices paid;
towbar - $330
remove-able tongue and electrics - $60
Electrics short protector - $95
- plus GST.
The Forester is a 2002 STI automatic (SF5?).
I've attached a loaded trailer several times and the vehicle seems to cope okay under load, but I definitely don't indulge in any harsh acceleration in order to avoid strain on the auto gearbox.
Hope that helps

yep - that's the guy I used; came out to my place this morning and he's done a tidy job on the car.
Towbar next and I've booked into Towbar Express. They'll have to cut through the skirt, but say they put on a rubber surround so it looks tidy. Hopefully it'll be a neat job.
I had the remove-able towbar fitted a couple of months ago at Towbar Express and the fitter did a very tidy job, including cutting through the skirt.
Unfortunately I managed to break off and lose the electrics connector at the weekend, due to some unexpected off-road driving; completely my fault, but Towbar Express replaced and re-fitted the connector free of charge.
That's what I call good service.

Slight threadjack, but since you're in Wellington, I'll recommend this guy to get your alarm done, if you haven't already had it done

Top notch friendly service, will come to you, and can offer a ride to / from work if so required.

welcome back philc! long time no see! how u been?
- all good, thanks. I've been missing the 'turbo rush', so had to get back to a Subaru
I'm just getting an immobiliser fitted to the Forester and once done, I'll be out on the road and hopefully make it to a few cruises, but probably stay off the racetrack.

- Thanks for the links

Hi, I'm looking to fit a towbar to a Forester - anyone have a recommendation for any garage in Wellington area that would do this?

Hi Jared,
I\'ve just looked at the file properties and its got a \'modify date\' of 11/07/06 and \'contributing artist\' J. Rollinson.
I only had my spec C (seen at 23 secs and 1:44-1:50 in the video) for a couple of years and I think that was around 2006 / 2007.
So trackday 2006?
But I may be wrong .......
cheers

a long time since last posting, but I was just tidying up the HDD on my old pc and came across this video;
I\'ll remove it if it\'s breaching copyright or it\'s been loaded elsewhere ...... otherwise, I hope it brings back happy memories.

Next Car an Electric?
in General Vehicle Discussion
Posted · Edited by Joker
After watching this video, my next car might be electric ..... I believe the Rimac has an electric motor mounted in each wheel, so four motors in all.
