  1. I found this on a UK Legacy Site.....Anyone tried this here?? What's your thoughts?? THIS IS NOT FROM ME.....(just in case someone tries it and it goes wrong!!) "All the information that follows relates to my GT-B BH5 TT Estate but may well be relevant to other models. As probably most of you are aware, as standard, twin turbo's run a lower boost on the primary turbo (~7psi - ~11psi) and a higher boost when running on both turbo's (~13psi - ~16psi). Since having my car ECUTEK remapped my primary boost achieved has remained exactly the same at ~11 psi and my twin boost achieved has increased from 1 bar to 1.25 bar (~15psi - ~18.5psi) with a corresponding increase in top end performance. The guy who remapped my car (Bob Rawle) said that he set both of the boost 'target' maps to 1.25 bar (i.e. there is a boost map for primary turbo mode and a different boost map for twin turbo mode). As mentioned above despite increasing the boost 'target' map for the primary turbo there was no physical difference to the actual boost my car was achieving when running in primary mode. Prior to the ECUTEK remap I don't know what the primary target boost map was set to but I would guess 1 bar, i.e. the same as the standard twin turbo target boost map. However, I know that on my car, as a result of the ECUTEK remap, both the primary and twin turbo target boost maps were increased to 1.25 bar. Bob said that he was going to investigate and get back to the people, who's cars he had remapped, so that he could attempt to increase the actual primary boost achieved. After a year of waiting I thought I would investigate myself to see what was going on in the system preventing the primary boost rising above ~11psi. After a couple of weekends of testing I have discovered that the system is plumbed in such a way so that the system is physically ‘naturally’ limited to ~11psi and that the boost achieved has nothing to do with the control of the ECU. If the ECU had it's way then primary boost would rise, in my case, to 1.25 bar and with a standard unmapped ECU 1 bar. After testing many different scenario's and lots of runs up and down the road I have now successfully come up with a solution that now gives the full 'target' boost whilst running in the primary mode (1.25 bar ~18psi) as well as the full target boost in twin turbo mode (1.25 bar ~18psi). There is no 'bleeding off' any air to atmosphere and the system still has full 'closed loop feedback' control. Before everyone starts saying 'what about overspooling the primary turbo' the answer is, as a result of this modification, I don't know how close to the limits of the primary turbo’s capacity it is now running. However, what I can say is that the boost rises very quickly to 1.25 bar and it holds it there very easily, so my guess would be it is still within its limits. The car has been transformed in terms of primary turbo performance and goes like a rocket up to 4000 rpm as well as going like a rocket above 4500rpm (after you get over the VOD!)". ""And here is the answer! Donations gratefully received for all my hard work (& several burnt fingers and small cuts on my hands!) Surprisingly the answer does not lay with the boost controller end of the system (as you might expect) instead the answer lay with where the exit of metal pipe 10, from the solenoid box, goes to. This basically needs re-routing to change the dynamics of the system so that the full primary boost pressure can be achieved. Take a look at the two attached pictures (you may need to adjust your browser to view these at 100% zoom level so that you can read the text). The pictures are of a before and after the modification and are hopefully self-explanatory as to what you need to do. The whole mod should take you about five minutes if your pipes are not 'stuck' on"". http://www.uklegacy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7815&st=0 Pictures are at this Link.....and more details......... Interesting!!!!
  2. I Might be able to get one made up in Stainless steel for you if that's any good? Need to give me the lengths... Cheers
  3. Tried 98....still there! Looks like a trip back to the garage!
  4. No Probs.... I've added it to the Legacy forum at the moment... will move it when it comes back..
  5. The Fuji muffler I have bought is bloody massive!! It has a full 3" inlet and just over a 4" outlet.... Also the muffler itself is about 1 1/2 times bigger than my current one. I would like to be brave enough to try it.... But concerned about the noise and it's too late once I've cut the other one off!! Might just sell it on and get something more suitable...... We'll wait and see.
  6. Has anyone got one of these fitted...I don't want the car to noisy! The reason I ask, is I went ahead and bought one...(i can hear you all laughing now). Someone else picked it up, so wasn't able to check before I bought it!!! I can get mine cut and this one welded on, but don't want to go to all this hasstle if it's going to be to loud!!! Let me know... Cheers
  7. Hopefully 98 will solve the problem.....'cos 95 has certainly made no difference! Cheers
  8. I've got 4 bottles of unopened malts in the cupboard...all the way from Scotland.......might pour a bottle of that in? See what noise it makes then.... I'll fill with 98 next and see how it goes. Cheers
  9. Yeh...The garage said it was just pinking due to the fuel??? Under question!! They put some fuel enhancer in, so I'll monitor it!! I have been running Caltex 95... I have filled with Shell 95, just to see if it makes a difference..
  10. Mine is an Auto...... Hopefully it's not the turbo, it's a 2001 and it's only done 65,000k's...not much for the turbo? It's back in the garage at the moment as it had a slight tapping noise when accelerating......whether this can be caused by the turbo I don't know?? Pick it back up tomorrow, so hopefully it will be sorted. Cheers
  11. I'm going to get a boost gauge fitted as I don't seem to have stuff all effect from the primary turbo on my B4! I can't even here it kicking in? Should there be a noticable boost, or nothing more than a standard car??? Thanks Again...
  12. Me again.... On hard acceleration, I have a tapping noise from the engine...not major, but certainly annoying! It's under warranty, so would you advise getting it looked at?
  13. Cheers....Just had a look today and the cable wasn't even there!!! I've taken off the spring and jammed it open at the moment... Sound wise, not a lot of difference! Does anyone know if an STI tailpipe of a V8 Impreza would fit there's one on trademe at the moment? I can always cut the pipe and use a bit of flexi-pipe if need be?? Cheers
  14. I have a 2001 and looking at this it certainly has a second pipe from the rear of the muffler..... Most of the aftermarket ones I have looked at only have the one inlet to the rear muffler??
  15. Just found this information on another website...... "An electronically controlled rear muffler is used to keep the B4 quiet at low road speeds. The pipe that leads into the rear muffler is divided in two, with one pipe equipped with a flapper valve. The ECU - working with an actuator and cable - opens this valve when travelling at medium-to-high road speeds. This increases exhaust gas flow" I was thinking about changing the rear muffler on my B4 with an aftermarket one.....Will this affect the way the ECU operates, or show any faults if I do change? Cheers
  16. For what you want from the exhaust just get a bolt on diff back muffler, that'd do the trick, its what my legacy's got now and at 100km's you cant even hear it but at idle and around town its got the "bob bob bob bob" suby sound so if you go down that route it should'nt be too droany - depending on what brand you get, its something I'd reccomend anyways, keep your eye for 2nd hand ones on trademe What make have you got on yours? Might just be exactly what I want... Cheers
  17. Cheers All... Certainly some differing thoughts! I think I'll get a guage fitted anyway.....just so I know what the current boost is and I will see where we go from there, before I look at fitting boost taps! Once I have this fitted I'll let you know what psi it's running as standard!! I certainly don't want to be doing things to stuff it up..... I'll certainly go for the exhaust....I don't want a loud drone all the time, so can anyone let me know what system would be best, just to give a little more sound...probably just the rear muffler would suit?? I might just stick with some body mods at the moment....wheels, lowering and front lip spoiler (if I can find one)...
  18. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-parts-accessories/Performance/Gauges/auction-316466893.htm Will this be ok for installing in my car? Im going to ask a stupid question now!!!!! How do I monitor the boost pressure in both turbos, does the reading come off the same vaccuum line? Cheers
  19. It's a 2001 model...... have noticed a few things on TM, but not sure if certain items would suit my car???
  20. No Idea on current psi...& don't even know how to check! It is totally standard at the moment....
  21. WTF.....I'm lost already! The exhaust is about the only thing I know...getting old! Can these items be fitted easily? Willing to try, but may be asking for some fitting help soon! Where is the best place to get a cat-back exhaust in Auckland....& how much? Cheers
  22. ???? under $500 (well under at the moment)....
  23. Is there anything I can do to the standard RSK TT engine to get a bit more kick out of the turbos? Can the boost be increased without to much work.....Oh and thats the main thing at the moment...limited funds!! Cheers
