  1. Hey all Were having a few issues with our 1996 BG5 auto GT wagon, if anyone could shed a bit of light on any of these thatd be great. 1) Horn used to work intermittantly, now wont work at all. Fuse is ok, and pretty sure horn units are too - funny feeling it might be the contacts on the inside of the wheel, but am reluctant to go digging round near the airbag. 2) Have got the clunking rear struts (bilsteins) so am assuming they need replacing or rebuilding? Read somewhere someone relubed the shafts but am guessing this is just a bandaid measure. Anyone know of a place that sells decent replacement struts (that arent $300 a corner). This car is mrs daily so no coilovers either. 3) Fuel economy has got progressively worse over past year or so, used to get around 420km to a tank its now down to about 340. No CEL showing but wonder if oxygen sensor may be stuffed? Runs standard boost, no mods at all. 4) Want to do a tranny oil change but saw somewhere that a filter needs replacing too - can anyone point me in the right direction of what this is and where to get it? Or a link to how to do the change Sorry bout all the questions but is first Subaru weve owned, and we want to keep it running in mint condition. Any help/comments appreciated, oh and have already had gd look using search btw! Cheers

  3. Well got back home today after a week away and car wouldnt turn over. Charged the battery up, and an hour later she starts no problems. Thought id do a bit of a draw test on the battery and see where its losing volts. With lights, aircon and hazards on 12.4V at alternator Lights and aircon 12.6V at alternator Just aircon 12.9V at alternator All accessories off 13.9-14V at alternator Thinking the aircon being on losing a whole volt may be an issue? Any auto sparkys have any ideas? Cheers
  4. Hey all We have a automatic 96 bg5 GT legacy wagon. Last October the car died suddenly one day while driving, after the srs and a couple of other dash lights came on. Got the car checked by the auto sparky and he said alternator just wasnt charging. Managed to jump it with a jumper pack. I replaced it with a 2nd hand one from Strongs, which lasted a couple of months then died the same death. Have had 2 more since then, all do the same thing lasting 4 weeks or so then die, so am wondering now if there is something causing the car to eat alternators, or if ive just been extremely unlucky and have had a whole heap of bad ones from Strongs. Battery is only 2 years old and has tested fine. Im kind of at a loss now, its my wifes daily driver so really need it running reliably. Anyone with any thoughts or ideas much appreciated Cheers
