Thanks for the advice guys really appreciate it

Yeah defs not that keen to work on a TT subie myself as just changing the oil filter was a mission ( Engine guard bolt was rounded and couldnt get it off ) -_-

Im Located in West Auckland atm, the car still drives (just) so somewhere local would be great

Such a nice car man. I really hope you do keep her instead of flicking her off. Did you buy from a dealer?? If its only a week old cant you just take it back or send them the bill?

  2. Sorry to hear mate. That was always my biggest fear after buying a car. You can get a second hand short block cheap enough these days. I picked up a ej207 (v7 Sti) long block for $1500 then if your not competent in doing it yourself get someone to do it for you. Not sure what that would cost though. Plenty of back yard gurus on here

  3. So after hmmming and harrrrring about a ECU for my B4, I have returned to the forum for help

TBH i dont know a fricking thing about ECUs. All i know is that their not cheap and everyone seems to go for a Link G4 =)

So my combo goes as followed

    I have a 99 B4 Legacy

    Ej207 long block

    TD06 Turbo

Equal length headers with a 3inch turbo back

    550cc injectors

Probably have to do fuel pump but i havent gotten that far yet into digging

What ECU should i be looking at? I have a tuner ready for when everything is bolted on and running, I will never be plugging my laptop into the ECU and making changes myself.

So theirs like G4 storms, extreme, lightning, atom (some even plug and play but mines going to need repined no mater what)

And then theirs ECUs that plug into ECUs and wtfs

Im assuming that one has more features than the others like a basic/medium/advanced options list.

Came across this on Tardme. Seems pretty cheap comparing it to other Extreme links http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/other-accessories/auction-980183914.htm

So should i be going for a link or something cheap and nasty

  4. Can this be done? I done a black faced cluster swap into my Gen 3 Legacy just by re pinning all the wires, Can the same thing be done in the V3 STi. Big fan of the white background and pretty lights and hate the V3.

V3 cluster (Does anyone know why some have the carbon fibre and others dont? Mine doesnt)

V4/5/6 cluster (im assuming all 3 versions are the same)

  5. So i recently purchased a V3 STi but i dont like the seats at all. After driving over 100km i get a sore back. And where the lower back positions in the seat has like a hump that digs into you (i drive with the seat completely upright and not like a homie in a civic), So my question is. Are V7 seats the same design as the V3s but just different color or are they completely different and more comfy?

  6. Yeah I tried the alternator pin in the bulb and that worked. Yeah red/white wire at the cluster end gave me nothing so I will run a new wire. Good that's it's the same colour at the ECU end. Makes it a bit easier.

Awesome if I don't have any luck I will go with the stahlcar option and check it every so often. That's good though cause I'm going to pull the engine so i want to check it incase I forgot to plug something in etc

  7. So after doing a cluster swap in my BE the check engine light no longer works, Not entirely sure why. 99 percent its all wired up correct. Checked bulbs etc

So im starting to think that maybe when i was doing the swap i pulled the wire to hard??? Does the check engine light come straight from the ECU? If so i could just run a new wire right straight to the dash light. I would just forget about it but as i want my car to be as healthy as possible it would be good to know if something is wrong etc.

That also gives me another question. I know that when the diagnostic plugs are connected the CEL flashes and you match the code. Are you able to plug in a OBDII diagnostic tool to get a reading aswel??????

  8.  hijacka']Eww Just build one yourself safest bet.. FWIW i wouldnt buy it.. the fact that it hasn't even been decked is a warning sign!

Would want to throw in decent forgies.

Yeah i was wondering why go to the extent in changing the crank and not change the pistons. If i got this block for say 1300 would that be worth it? Then get it bored if need be and new pistons, bearings maybe, and the block decked.

Or am i better just paying that sort of money on a block that has all that done.

What sort of block is this possumbourne one anyway? EJ20X??
