  1. New York - Subaru of America, Inc. today unveiled the SUBARU WRX CONCEPT at the 2013 New York International Auto Show at the Jacob K. Javits Center. The design concept hints at the design language of the next generation WRX.

The bold and muscular design emphasizes turbocharged power and AWD grip in a more agile and athletic form. The SUBARU WRX CONCEPT blends the WRX’s famous power and road-holding prowess with an even greater focus on sharp handling, steering and communicative chassis. To further improve handling dynamics, the SUBARU WRX CONCEPT features a carbon-fiber roof to enhance the already low center of gravity and reduce weight.

Considerably lower, sleeker and wider, the SUBARU WRX CONCEPT delivers even more street presence than previous generations of WRX. The new grille design is larger and bolder and sets off the classic WRX hood scoop. A pronounced powerbulge provides clearance for the new turbocharged engine and intercooler. A prominent hexagonal grille form and deep lower valences with air intakes are designed to enhance aerodynamics, add downforce and aid engine cooling.

The three dimensional mesh pattern of the grille denotes the sporting nature of the SUBARU WRX CONCEPT and sets the Subaru star cluster apart, while the new hawk-eye headlights integrate the Subaru family design heritage.

A sharp character line runs from the front corner through to the taillights, intersected by the boldly flared wheel arches emphasizing the Subaru’s AWD system. The compact cabin greenhouse draws attention to the power and solidity of the body and focuses attention to wide stance that provides a visual link between body and chassis.

The rear design echoes the hexagonal design motif from the front grille and features a dramatically curved trunk lid that also acts as a rear spoiler. The distinctive wide rear bumper of the SUBARU WRX CONCEPT adds to the powerful street presence of the car and is off-set by large quad tailpipes denoting the powerful turbocharged engine. The aggressive rear diffuser improves vehicles aerodynamics.

The all-new SUBARU WRX CONCEPT features a new paint color, “WR Blue Pearl III”, which modernizes the iconic WRX look. Fluorescent Yellow is used as an accent on the WRX badge on the front grille, the brake calipers and the exhaust tip finishers, adding character notes to the design.

Filling out the broad fenders are BBS “RI-D” One Piece Forged Duralumin wheels and featuring 245/40ZR20 Dunlop tires with an exclusive tread pattern.

  2. STI to introduce the SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI “S206”

Tokyo, November 24, 2011 – Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI)*1 is pleased to announce the launch of the

SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI “S206”, special performance edition. The model will go on sale today through

    Subaru dealerships in Japan.

Based on the 4-door SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI, S206 is the newest model in STI’s “S” series. This series

dons the crown of STI tuned cars with advanced driving performance and exclusively-made items in both interior

and exterior designs. As with former STI models such as S204 and R205, S206 is founded on the IMPREZA WRX

    STI line.

In addition, “NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE” model will be released to commemorate the class win*2 at 24

Hours Nürburgring endurance race held in June, with the addition of a carbon roof and original dry carbon rear

spoiler. The exterior design incorporates racing car motifs and has an enhanced sporty feel.

Pre-orders for the “NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE” have reached the limit for units available.

    SUBARU IMPREZA WRX STI S206

S206’s body and engine were tuned to perform as expected of STI’s best model. The body employs exclusive

Bilstein shock absorbers, STI coil springs, a flexible tower bar (front), and a flexible draw stiffener (front). While

improving straight-driving performance, motion is steadied when going into corners so that precise and quick

turning is possible. Plus, “Michelin Pilot Super Sport” tires provide refined driving comfort in combination with

“BBS” 19-inch aluminum wheels made only for this model.

In the exclusively-made engine, the weight balance between piston, connecting rod, and crankshaft is optimized to

enhance the rev feel. Along with a ball bearing turbocharger, ECU (Engine Control Unit) with STI tuning, and a

sports muffler with lowered back pressure exhaust - all of which were designed for this model - the engine can

deliver 235kW (320PS) in maximum output and 431N.m (44kg.m) in maximum torque. The accelerator response is

heightened and low to mid range torque increased, thereby offering better driveability.

On the outside, the lower front spoiler and front fender outlet grille, both designed for this model, and the trunk

spoiler are among its distinctive features. The newly-made front grille and side garnishes were also employed for

aerodynamics improvement and a high grade appearance.

In the interior are exclusively-made items such as a genuine leather-wrapped steering wheel, “RECARO” racing

bucket seats, and seatbelts. Together they create a refined appearance and feel, appropriate for this flagship model.

    November 13, 2011

Tokyo, 13 November 2011 - Subaru Tecnica International Inc. (STI) today announced that it is planning to build a race car based on the new small-sized FR sport car - the ‘SUBARU BRZ' and to compete with it in the GT300 class of the 2012 SUPER GT. Aiming to respond to SUBARU fans' expectations, STI plans to participate in the GT series in conjunction with R&D SPORT and utilise its FR BOXER engine knowhow developed through use in the Legacy, which has been running in the series since 2009.

Keep winding the lock on until I cannot put up with any more understeer, and leave it there.

I think probably I would want an auto feature to wind lock on as steering angle decreased, but I guess that requires sensors that don't exist on the car currently. Under braking I think I would like some lock for stability. Ideally you would set a minimum lock level and the system would operate from that level up, dropping out completely in cases of handbrake operation or near enough to full steering lock. I have often thought about having a second switch wired the same as the handbrake switch somewhere on the steering wheel.

A standard Subaru WRX STi sedan has smashed the long-standing road-car lap record for the 61km Isle of Man TT circuit.

Former British rally champion Mark Higgins posted a time of 19 minutes and 56.7 seconds at an average speed of 183km/h. He blasted through one section at 262km/h.

Higgins' time is more than two minutes faster than the previous record, set by the late Tony Pond 21 years ago in a Rover 827 Vitesse. Pond was the first to break the average 163km/h barrier in a road car.

Higgins had just one lap to set the record - TT organisers would not allow a practice run.

The WRX STi used unmodified brake callipers and ran on road-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo tyres. Springs and dampers were adjusted to cope with the bumps and jumps on the circuit.

The car was fitted with safety gear, including a roll cage, race harnesses and fire extinguisher. To warn spectators of its high-speed presence it was fitted with a high-decibel exhaust.

"Setting the record was both the most exhilarating and the most frightening thing I have ever done," Higgins said.

"The rules allow for a flying start so I crossed the line at 200km/h. I then went down through the Bray Hill junction - normally taken at about 35km/h - at over 240km/h.

"Once that tricky section was out of the way I settled into the lap and quickly got used to the balance and sheer pace of the car.

"In the end the lap was simply fantastic, and the WRX STi behaved impeccably. The engine pulled incredibly strongly throughout and the car's cornering capability proved crucial on such a twisty, unforgiving course."

The outright lap record on the TT course was set in 2009 by John McGuinness on a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade motorcycle. McGuinness posted 17 minutes and 12.3 seconds, equivalent to an average 212km/h.
