Hmmm a lot to think about. Is it possible to run a nice flipped manifold and front mount with out having to cut a whole lot up?
-
Well i was considering that aswell, there are a couple of complete v7 sti engines around, buy one of them, stock rebuild and turbo link g4? Seems easy lol
-
Cheers will keep that in mind, will start doing some research and planning on what ill need. List so far would be:
1. V7 short block
2. V3/4 heads
3. V7 intake and intercooler? Could i just get the whole v7 setup including rails injectors ect to make it a bit easier? Theres seems to be a few on trade me
4. Rebuild standard tdo5/6 hybrid setup
5. Walbro intank pump
6. G4 link ecu
7. All associated gaskets, timing belt/pumps ect
8. All new hoses

Sweet sounds good, cheers for the advice

The engine is getting a bit tired which is why im taking it out for either a rebuild or a forged build as above, by the sounds of it a late model engine setup like you said is the way to go. But i will be keeping all the standard bits so one day i could take it back to standard if i ever wanted. Huge power isn\'t really my goal, i really just want to take advantage of what the car is already good at, being the light weight RA model i want to keep it as close to original as possible but still make it go as good as it can.
Which is why i am a bit stuck on what i should do, do i just go for a standard rebuild with a nice forged setup and try and make it breath the best i can by doing the heads ect, but than if i muck around with that the money i will spend is probably the same as you mentioned and i will be getting less power ???
The idea i have in my head is a light weight setup that could rival the likes of a nicely tuned type r civic or the likes, for the nice twisty roads/sealed hill climbs ect. Does that make sense?? ;D

Cheers, so no real point playing with my motor better to just stash it in the shed.

Sorry to drag the power thing up AGAIN but im a bit lost in what i should do with my engine. Car is a V2 wrx sti ra. Power i would like minimum of 350hp at the wheels. What i am thinking is forged closed deck block. Can the standard heads/cams handle that power. I was thinking of giving them a slight tickle up just a minor port and polish and some nice street cams from Kelfords do the valve springs as well. Turbo wise is the standard TD05 up to the task? Injectors a set of yellow tops? Link ecu, walbro intank pump, twisted turbo, standard top mount or am i forced to go front mount?
Really need to make a plan so i can start buying stuff
-
Cheers, thought that would be the case

Also are semi slicks suitable for on the road i.e if it rains? Are they still going to out grip a normal road tyre such as the re002, or are they best for the track?
-
Ive got a rear 23mm sway bar in at the moment and front cusco k brace, the shocks are buggered, starting to knock so i really need to get them done, so thought i would do something with the springs while im at it, bushes are also on the list of things to do
-
Ive got a mate running D2s aswell has said the same, im assuming they are a lot better than they use to be, i know when they first came out they had issues with them leaking and you couldnt rebuild them
-
Yeah i was considering adjusties, dont wont a really hard ride, i had bc golds in my old laurel and they were horrible on the road even on the softest setting, maybe different with a better brand
-
Ok so im upgrading my tyres as the old ones are buggered and my shocks and springs as the shocks are buggered, standard shocks done almost 200,000km.
Tyres; im leaning towards the bridgestone potenza re002, or i have been recomended a nitto nt555. Any one have any advice on some tyres, i want something that should be a good all season tyre that i can push hard around the twistys.
Suspension; springs kings superlows and shocks monro gas shocks. i know there are better options out there but my budget isnt massive around $1600 for suspension
-
Will give it ago, have taken it off again and re sealed everything but it is still leaking, driving me insane :-\ Might have to try using the sealer around the whole thing as im running out of choices and i dont want to have to pay some one to do it :
-
Looks like a nice height as is, are they a super low type spring?
-
Very nice looking subbie mate, whats the specs on the wheels and suspension setup?
-
Yeah i might pull it apart tonight and check everything is right, if all else fails will give this a go.

So since i replaced my rocker cover gaskets (used genuine parts) the dam thing is still leaking on the drivers side, i replaced the half moon things, used sealer with them and new seals for the bolts. What else could be causing it to leak?

did you use GENUINE gaskets ? especially the wee bolt ones
