  1. Ah ok will try that, i also checked the oil before i went to the drags and it was slightly over full, could this have caused the oil issue? I checked the oil this morning and it is at the full mark now ??? Ill take the intercooler off and give it a clean out, ive also noticed a bit of a fuel smell lately aswell, only when the heater is on though and not all the time, could this be a sign of something aswell? The car has done just over 192,000km and there is no sign of a rebuild so possibly getting a bit tired aswell :-\

I believe its the turbo due to it is spitting oil out the BOV which is situated just after the turbo, Ive had a type r coupe with the vf22 which went really well, the tdo5 on the car at the moment went good but i just assumed the vf22 was ment to be the best turbo the subarus came out with, but after a bit of research i see the td05 aint to bad either.

So after my recent drag racing experience the turbo on my car has decided to start letting a bit of oil through, im wondering what the best option would be, weather i rebuild my factory one or go to maybe a vf22, if i was to go to a vf22 would there be much of an advantage and would it change how the car went? Would i also need to change any other parts?

So had a good time at the drags, didnt launch it just eased it off the line and did a 14.3, did about 5 runs than i noticed oil coming out of the bov and starting to smoke a bit so im guesing time for a new turbo lol : Was great fun though and id say if i launched it would definitly get into the 13s, managed to beat a 500hp supercharged amg merc which was fun (only because he had no traction off the line ;D) Heres a vid of my first run againts the merc
  5. So ive decided to take the old sti ra to the drags at ruapuna tomorrow, how do you think it should hold up to launching it? Are the RA gearboxes ment to be pritty strong or should i not risk it? Ive had a bit of a read on how to launch so have a good idea on what to do, or should i just try nana it off the line for a start and see how it fears from than? Im shore most of these questions have been answered before, but im more looking at a model specific answer if you know what i mean

I noticed on the way home when i had the heater on there was a real bad fumey smell like petrol fumes, so i had to drive home with the windows down, i got home and had a look under the bonnet and it seems to be coming from around the throttle body area. I cant see anything leaking but it is a bit moist under the throttle body, but cant get my finger in there to smell it lol :. It is an RA so has the 5th injector. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Or am i going to have to take the intake manifold off to have a look?
  8. Nice, im interested in the specs on the engines mainly, its interesting to see they still run the top mount intercooler.

  10. As title says im trying to find some info and pics on the 1995 spec wrc subarus. Have googles images ect but cant find much, only a bit on wikipidia, i really wont some photos of the engines aswell would be good.
  11. Yeah ive herd that so if i was going to do a full exhaust il make sure i get it checked out on a dyno at the same time. Also will be a good idea with the bushes, when i do the sway bars ect il upgrade all the bushes while im at it aswell
  12. Yeah after taking it for a drive today, i dont think i would need much more power, you cant even use all the power its got now around the twisty roads, so any more would be pointless. And im not to keen on going to the drags so huge power isnt important to me, more so reliability which is why i was thinking a link may be a good option to make sure its running the best it can.
  13. Will the later version top mounts bolt on without much hassle? Might have to steal the missus top mount (v3 sti) wonder if she will notice lol
  14. I havnt actually played with the dccd yet, i always just have it wound back so i think that is 75% rwd? I found with my old type r if i drove it on with it anything other than wound back it would bind up on me around town, What would be the best point to have it for 'grip' driving i.e a nice windy road or the track?

Cheers for all the ideas, id like to do a few track days as well, so im liking the sound of sway bars and the anti lift kit, might look at upgrading the brakes to 4 and 2pots, do you need to upgrade the booster when you do this? Il be upgrading tyres aswell, still tossing up weather i go to 17s or stick with the 16s, tyres im looking at bridgestone re002s i think they are. Than if money allows a 3" cat back exhaust and a Link to make sure its running its best. Also im guessing a baffled sump would be a good idea while im at it? Just to help with reliability on the track
  16. Yeah it does have plenty of power already, for me anyway. Just wondering if a link would make it run much better such as fuel economy maybe a bit more power, or are the standard ecus pritty good from factory? Just googled the anti lift mod looks like a good idea. What brands do you guys prefer? Anyone using the whiteline swaybars?
  17. Just wondering what the best bang for buck mods are as far as handling, aswell as mods for some extra HP. Currently my car has apexi intake and siemese pipe (which i dont actually know what it is haha ???) old school hks bov, and i think it maybe slightly lowered, all mods were done in Japan before car was imported. Also my car is a V2 sti ra Would possibly running a link make much of a difference over the standard ecu considering my minor mods? Also upgrading the intercooler, are there any bolt in intecoolers that are any better? I want to keep it top mount and try to retain the factory intercooler sprayers.
  18. Just wondering who you all recomend to do some work on the missus wrx sti, she needs the clutch done on it and possible put a new gearbox in at the same time.

So hopefully i will have a new wrx soon and was wondering what your guys thoughts are and experience with wheel sizes and how they handle, all i will be using the car for is daily driving with a quick drive around the hills every now an than. I want something that is going to handle the best, looks dont worry me. Maybe the odd track day if one comes up.

  21. Sweet it should last her for a while, will keep an eye on it if it gets any worse may look at a rebuild.

So the missus has just bought a version 3 wrx sti, very nice car only done 94000km, but 5th gear is a bit notchy when you put it in no matter how slow you put it in it always seems to catch, obviously the faster you put it in the worse it is. Just wondering if this is a common falt in these? Anything we could do to help it or is it just going to need a rebuild or cheaper to get a second hand box?
