  1. I swapped out my TD04 in my v2 WRX for a TD05, and at the same time switched the standard ecu for a v2 sti RA version. I also have a 3inch downpipe and an upgraded intake so right after I did this it was running well apart from occasional boost spike issues. I installed a boost tee and set the boost to about 1bar, it goes really well and and has been running without any problems for over 10,000 ks now, I would definitely recommend this combination of mods on a v2.

the factory solinoid should controll good as thru internal it might be gunked up....but anyway pull all 3 hoses off solinoid.block the one on the intake pipe so u have no intake leaks...remove the others completely so nothing is on the solinoid but leave the electrical plug in as if u dont ull get check engine light....then run a hose from compressor housing nipple to the actuator and put boost tap in the hose pointing towards actuator itl have a arrow on it

Yea the factory solenoid works perfectly, or it did when i was running 10psi on the td04, but I was told I would need some other form of boost control once running the td05 and the sti ecu, which seems accurate, as boost tapers off much sooner than I would have expected with the td05 running 15psi and using the standard WRX solenoid.

  3. Hey guys,

I have recently installed an Sti ecu and a Td05h in my 1996 v2 WRX. It goes alot better than it did before, but the boost control is unreliable on the standard WRX solenoid. To remedy this I have purchased a Turbosmart Boost tap, and was just wondering which side of the boost solenoid I should put the tap on? As in should i install it on the compressor half of the line after the solenoid, or the actuator side. Or something else altogether....

Any help would be much appreciated :)

  4. Hey mate, i just put a siamese downpipe on my v2 wrx and it was off a later model (v5 i think), just thought I'd let you know the flange that bolts to the mid section didn't match up directly, it was on the wrong angle. Was simple enough to fix though. cut the flange, rotate and re-weld. Definately a worthwhile mod =) it could have just been the downpipe i got but just thought I'd let you know.

Has the exhaust been done on it from the turbo back?

No, it has been done from the cat back, but if i were to upgrade the turbo i would put a siamese downpipe in at same time, while the turbo was off. Only other mods are Turbosmart bov, boost gauge, 17's and springs. I also have an HKS pod filter and a stainless intake pipe waiting to go on but I'm just waiting until i buy some material to make a cold air box out of before it all goes in :)

  6. DPI sorry that u feel your advice wasn't listened to, i completely understand that buying an sti is the more sensible option from a monetary point of view. Thanks very much for your input :) and to every one else that posted... also sorry if my original post was unclear. I don't expect STI power from these mods at all, but i think it will make my car a little bit more fun than the average wrx. I'm still not sure what i want to do at the moment, i think I will wait until it is the end of my holidays and see how much coin i have saved and then re-evaluate the best option for me.

late last year i sold my 1996 wrx v2 for 8g.

So either a)you have a ****ter or b)you arent prepared to wait until the right buyer comes along.

I saw a few STis around for not much more than that at the time.

I agree with DPI. The money difference between the two is not that much.....and the cost to improve your performance to anywhere close to STi level will cost almost as much.

I reckon you could upgrade to an STi of equivalent year for like 2.5G all up.

Well worth it when you consider all the kit you get.

My rex isn't a ****ter at all lol, its one of the tidiest v2's i've ever seen, but i highly doubt it'd sell for 8k.

  8. Yea thanks for the help guys, selling is actually a good idea for me too as i will be living in the city next year and won't need a vehicle... but then again thats the reason why a project car was suited to me, because it didnt matter if it was in bits in my mums shed haha. It was worth asking if this upgrade was simple and worthwhile, but a genuine sti is going to be much better anyway.

  9. Hey guys,

I have heard of a number of V3/4 wrx owners carrying out an "sti power uprgade" by adding the orange afm, yellow injectors, turbo and ecu.

I have a V2 WRX with a td04, non sti ecu, grey injectors and green afm... I am wanting to carry out a similar upgrade, and I am wondering what i need to do?

    Thanks

  10. Hey guys, my v2 wrx wagon has been running 7 psi for a while now instead of the usual 10 psi.. i have reset my ecu, and there were no codes. after reset the problem was fixed but only for a very short time. it ran 10psi for a short time before going back to 7. Anyone got any ideas as to why it might be going into safe mode straight away?

  11. hey guys,

My wrx normally runs a solid 10 pounds, but as of yesterday it has started running only 5-7pounds... this has happened once before and i found a loose hose clamp... this time all the hoses and clamps seem to be fine though? I was thinking it might be the standard recirc valve leaking? as it doesnt really make the same noise that it used to.. Could anyone help me out with ideas on what could be causing this and how i could fix it? I want my boost back so it would be greatly appreciated.... thanks.
