  1. I was on the track at Puke when that happened, maybe 1/4 track length behind the Honda. Most of the time the days are incident free but I have often seem crashes. I have pics of an S2000 that hit the wall coming over the hill at the exact same spot from late last year. Lots of fun but some of the people there cannot drive worth squat. MHO.

    At my first track day there I was told "no over taking in the corners" - first thing that happens - some nut job in a white civic comes flying past me into the hairpin, tyres locked up and smoking away, over taking in the corner.

    If you go to a track day you do it at your own risk - regardless of who organises it.

  2. I ran an Aquamist setup in my car back in South Africa. It was the best mod I ever did! Guaranteed.

    I ran a 50/50 mix of water and methanol - helped reduce detonation and keep intake temps down. It kept the car's times consistent and and I never had any problems with heat soak from the turbo. It was plain to see how similar cars suffered without it. I didn't get much power gain from it but I never did it for that anyway.

    I've been considering it for my Sti but no one here knows how to install it.

  3. I was there on Monday ;D ;D ;D

    It is awesome! The inside hairpin is so demanding. Just about every corner has to be taken a lot later than you'd think.

    My fuel bill was insane for the day - 60 litres and I did 223kms (getting there and back plus racing around)

    I recommend it to anyone

  4. Hi guys

    I have a bit of a problem with my Sti. This problem keeps recurring but only at track days. It's happened to me at Pukekohe a few times and today at Hampton Downs.

    After about 20 laps or more (not continuous) when I accelerate out of sharp corners from low speeds (>50) the car starts to stutter and feels like it's hit the rev limiter as I accelerate. This happens at low revs 5/6000rpm. When I lift off and then floor it again the problem is gone. I can't make it happen by driving the same way through the corners - the car just decides to do it.

    I'm not sure if it's misfiring or the clutch, diff or gearbox is stuffed.

    I recently had the on board cpu diagnostics checked out and the were no fault codes showing so I don't think it has to do with the engine. But then again...

    The car pulls perfectly and drives fine otherwise.

    Any help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks

  5. Yeah the claim of power gains isn't accurate. I read a magazine recently that did a test on filters, can't remember the car, but the best they got was just over 3KWs. Tested different brands on the same car running on a dyno. No surprise really. It's one of those mods that we think "MUST WORK" just cos we paid biggish $$$$'s for them over std.

  6. Can't wait. Upgraded the rotors and disks.

    May need to take extra fuel - Last Saturday I used 3/4's of a tank of gas getting from Auckland to Pukekohe and back - did about 20 laps on the track - about 160kms - That fuel disappeared big time. Must have something to do with removing the speed limiter and the car doing 212 on the back straight before the parachute was deployed LOL : - ))))))

  7. Hi there

    I want to get the speed limiter removed from my Sti. After numerous encounters with it on the back straight at Pukekohe I have had enough!@ And now with Hampton Downs opening up I need to get rid of it.

    Any of you cool folk know a tuner who can get rid of it for me?

    Thanks very much

    Greg

  8. Hi all

    I was wondering what difference there is to the way a car handles based on it's steering rack ratios?

    The various Impreza models listed below all have different figures (Based on ver 8 & 9):

    WRX = 16.5:1

    STI = 15.2:1

    STI V-Limited = 13.0:1

    Sti Rally Car - 11.0:1

    I assume that the lower the number the better the handling performance of the car?

    I read that a lower ratio would reduce the amount of turns on the steering wheel before you got to full lock?

    Google doesn't seem to have the clear answers here so any help is good.

    Thanks

  9. I'm all for the best brakes on my car but I'm just concerned that I'm replacing them just because the dealer wants extra $$$$. I've done a lot of research online and from what I've seen it's ok to only change the pads and not the rotors as well, as long as they are in good shape.

    RaceBrakes in Auckland can supply me std sti rotors for $105 a set which is a good price when compared to Subaru so I think I'm going to replace them anyway. I might even get a better set and some serious pads too.
