  1. Hi people My Sti sounds like it needs new brake pads. I am going to put on some Ferodo DS2000s on the front and some Mintex on the back. When I called Subaru they said they do not just replace the pads and will not do that service for me. They say I will need to either skim or replace the disks before putting new pads on the car. That sounds a bit weird to me as I have never had to do this on my previous cars before (unless the disks were stuffed) but the Subaru guy said it's due to the Brembos on the car. Since I have never owned an Sti I am a bit unsure. Can I take my pads direct to a decent mechanic and have them replaced without doing anything to the disks or must I go the Subaru (bring your dollars) route? I have a feeling I should trust the Subaru guy simply because he works for Subaru, but I also have a sneaky feeling that it's not entirely essential. Any advice please. Cheers Greg
  2. Where can I find the details for this?
  3. Yeah it's a std Sti V8. Unless the previous Japanese owner did something to it that I'm unaware of it's std. It still has the top speed limiter on it - cuts in at 180 on the back straight at Pukekohe. I want to put it on a dyno to check the power. Any plans for a dyno day in ACKL?
  4. Hi all Joined the STi club at Meremere today and boy was I impressed with my car. I ran a 13.5! In a std car! Wow! Ran a 13.7 and a 14. The acceleration was phenomenal. Awesome stuff.
  5. I'm not even getting involved in that discussion.
  6. I test drove Sti_V9s car a while back. I have to agree on everything he said there. The tyres are noisy on all STIs, mine included. I have a set of Bridgestones on mine and whenever you hit a rough surface you may as well turn the radio off. The motorway down to Hamilton is a prime example. I have suspension on my car that was tuned/designed by Toshi Aria of the Subaru World Rally Team specifically for the STi V-Limited and if you want "bobble head" come for a ride in mine. But it goes around a corner faster than a greased Italian Racing Snake (Ferrari). The good that STI-V9 spoke of is a ditto for the V8. I love my car. I love my car. I love my car.
  7. I found this useful http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/car-purchasing-forum/105049-how-buy-used-wrx-sti.html We all know these cars get raped so be wary of anyone who says they drove it "nicely to work and back". Modifications give me the frighteners but everyone has their opinion on mods.
  8. Try this for a bit of help when buying a sti: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/car-purchasing-forum/105049-how-buy-used-wrx-sti.html
  9. The unit I bought is awesome. It is beyond simple to use. Goes from A to Z on the list as quick as an i-pod. I love it. CDs? I don't need no stinkin' CDs!
  10. Damn I forgot to drop a quote in from a previous reply :P No abba here. Rather sell my bottom on K-Rd than have that in the car. ;D
  11. I just installed an Alpine unit. http://www.rapidradio.co.nz/Product-Catalogue(99).asp?ProductCategoryId=1&ProductId=459 It's really awesome. Search function is great. It's easy as chips to get from Abba to ZZ Top. Sound quality is tops. I guess it depends on your budget as well. And who uses CDs these days? You can drop everything you own onto the iPod.
  12. From what I've heard the car feels like it hit a rev limiter when it hits that speed and just wont go any faster. Even the GTR34s have the same issues. I met a guy a few months back with a 2004 sti- said he bought software that enabled him to connect his laptop to his car and change factory settings on the cars ecu with this software. Anybody have anything similar? Not that I'm advocating high speed.
  13. Hi all Just wondering if imported Jap cars like Stis/WRXs are limited to 180 by the car's ECU? Would hate to go to Taupo for the meet and hit a limiter at 180 and spoil all the fun.
