  1. It could also be a torn inner CV boot wherein the grease inside the inner CV is splashed under the engine including the exhaust.

    don't force it in. just turn it around and wiggle it a bit until it goes in. i encountered the same thing when i was trying to replace the auto gearbox of my bg5 legacy.
