Good stuff man, how much did the cat converter cost set you back?
-
I also got this downpipe installed, had it done sometime last year. I'm loving the gains but the raspy sound at times does get to you.
Sounds like a hollow can, doesnt really match the look of the car IMO. Having said that its not too loud, and the DP also makes the turbo more audible, which is always nice
I'm also keen on the exhaust, I should be popping in this week and will enquire about it.
-
Yeah that is a sweet system.
I've already got a frontpipe in though and only after mufflers.
Right now I'm tossing up between getting some Borlas $350 each, or some Ebay ones around $100 each.
Thing with the Ebay ones is that they'd be a gamble in terms of sound, they all do say deep smooth sound.
Might just be the guinea pig here ;D

um hard to explain but i like its not very loud in the car at all at idle sounds loud but once its got revs and engine noise(belts turbos ect) it aint actually that loud its a real deep sound have had a few comments already that it sounds good (including the 40 something year old woman i carpool with for work) only been on a week and thats without the silencer
Sweet as, thanks for the info man, I'll keep those in mind just waiting to hear back on others. Seem like good value

Yeah saw those, cheap for sure lol, whats the tone like?

I'm not too sure about this, I think the USDM have ELH too and that 4th gens stopped UELH model wide?
Either way I know im not gonna get the same rumble sound on my 4th gen but would still like an aftermarket deep/bassy tone and not a raspy fart one.
Gonna seriously consider getting one from US if there arent any suppliers or good brands locally.

as far as I know the US only had the 2.5T motor with UELH, hence they rumble.
Only get from the US if its cheaper.
I did check the US lgt forums, you're absolutley right they have UELH ;D lucky sods!
I'm currently checking out some mufflers on trademe, got my eye on AdrenalinR if anyones heard that one before..

No offense to anyone that likes them, just prefrence.
I'm after a nice deep rumble though, no rasp or fart

Not gonna happen on an 03 leggie TBH.
Its always gonna sound like a 4 banger due to the equal length headers.
The American ones rumble as they have the 2.5 with UEL headers.

Buy something made for Holden/Ford V8's... Mine is now well over 6 years old and still going strong...

Heh sounds odd, thing is 4th gens have a dual setup so dont think that would be an easy fit
Same set up as what many other manufacturers have
Most muffler shops can do something for you, and the advantage of the Aussie made ones are that they are "universal" and will ensure that the noise level is below the WOF threshold.
I have seen this done a few times to BH/BE, BM/BR, BP's etc ove in Aus as the mufflers come in a range of sizes just talk to your local muffler shop for ideas...
Yeah I was thinking of going down to pitstop, although I'm sure they'd tryn push their brands in.
Thing with mufflers is, I kinda need to hear what its like before fitting it in, guess I'd have to take their word for it..

Anyone know a good brand of mufflers to suit 03+ Legacy BP?
I've seen vids on LGT forums but its all US brands - magnaflow, perrin etc.
I'm after something with a nice bassy rumble, not too loud and nothing raspy ;D
-
Just heard back from subtech, they said the frontpipe doesnt require a retune..
@webup im guessing you have more than just this mod on your bp?
-
Got it attached to the bottom left of the passenger seat with velcro, the ipod cable comes out and it sits in the center compartment.
-
Not sure what you mean, the unit sits out so you have access to plug your ipod in..
-
How much does a tune usually cost? I've seen places that charge a grand! =x
-
@dazz It connect to the back of the stereo, gotta take the whole thing out.
I had mine done at hyper, they did a good job of attaching the unit to the side and providing the ipod ps/2 cable.
-
I run this subtech pipe on my STi smoker (05 BP)
You wont get boxer rumble from a JDM BP/BL because they come from factory with equal length headers.
Exhaust mods cant change this. Replacing headers from EL to UEL will but they are EL for a reason. Better design.
If you want to run lean and destroy your engine then do exhaust mods without a retune.
Otherwise since the ECU struggles compensating for so much new flow with say a new free flow air filter and larger downpipe with no cat and bigger bore exhaust it must be remapped to accomodate new levels.
My car has been tuned remotely from a well known Subaru tuner in California.
Hmm right.
I've seen some vids with aftermarket exhaust mods for the bps, they sound good enough rumble or not.
I'm really after that nice deep sound with some power.
Any noticable change with the frontpipe vs stock performance and sound wise?
Did you get a dyno before/after?
Going by your words a tune is required after fitting it even though its not a CBE mod?
-
I'm after a small power upgrade for my BP and want that sweet boxer rumble sound
I stumbled upon this front pipe upgrade that subtech do, however they said that while it gives power gains it doesn't provide the rumble sound.
Wondering if its possible to upgrade from the stock mufflers for sound with the front pipe attached or would that be somehow incompatible?
Also with CBE, I've heard that they won't do much without a tune - you'd just be paying for sound?
Cheers

Yep, theres actually one out there that works on a non-mcintosh stereo. Think at the moment theres on an Ipod/Aux version. I've got one installed recently, its pretty awesome.

Facelift for you to compare photos (2007 model). Yours is a pre-facelift - grills don't look significantly different in shape but I've heard they are different enough that they're not interchangable.
Yeah guys, as polyarkos mentioned in another board, mine is a pre-facelift
Not many options now from here, proly best to sell it :
-
Hmm well someone now mentioned that my car could be a pre facelift 2005.
The grill is meant for 05+ legacys, is there a way to tell if mine is a pre?

Hi mates, first post here.
So I got the grill second hand from trademe, was told it should fit my car no probs - 05 Legacy GT.
I've also seen others, mainly usdms, with it on but either way this grill is for jdm cars.
Anyway, I tried to fit it myself, no real luck so I took it down to a shop.
They told me and showed me why it wouldnt fit. :-\
Here are some pics:
1) You can see the latch getting in the way there
2)The gap between the screw holes
3)Close up of the latch
4)Bonnet cannot close properly
5)Gap between the sides of the grill
Any help guys would be appreciated ???
