  1. I vowed a long time ago never to buy a car where some old nana in a corolla gassed me off the lights. A nana in a v8... thats a different story Plugged in the unit to check the voltage. Seems very constant so its not the alternator. Time to replace the idle valve
  2. Cheers guys. Im a constant gauge watcher. As my mechanic says im the king of the check engine light in my previous subys so I am used to things happening!
  3. Thanks STI I checked the coolant. It was smoke tested the other day and all checked out.
  4. Cheers Marky. The plan is to check the alternator. And then change the idle valve. If that does not fix the problem the next step is to buy a Volvo
  5. Awesome. Cheers. You will have to bare with me, I do search the forums for answers but you may find I might ask some really ignorant questions on these forums. But I am learning lol I would like to know how to do more with my car myself vs paying the earth for a mechanic. However I know my limits...
  6. Hi there Today I noticed when warming down the car after about an hours drive the greddy water temperature/pressure (which normally hovers between 80-85) rose up to about 95 after a few minutes idle. I turned it off once it hit 95 yet the normal water temperature gauge in the car on the dash sat at its normal level Is this normal, im new to these gauges as i notice it also fluctuates up and down 80-90 when i give her a tap and the turbo kicks in and so forth. Please excuse the ignorance. I will check the coolant and water etc when she cools down later. Just at work haha
  7. cleaned all the carbon out of it. its either stuffed or its something else. checking the alternator tomorrow and otherwise trying to source an old idle valve from one of the many ex v5-6 rexs out there in the wrecking yards no doubt
  8. Going to check alternator also so thanks for the tip above !
  9. Cheers everyone. Seems like it could be a whole raft of things lol ill update this post when i find the cause Update Mechanic thinks its the idle calve control motor. New suby one is 740 plus gst ??!!!!!!! However try and source a second hand one. If anyone knows of one for a v5 ra engine going cheap and in good working order please let me know
  10. Did you ever get this resolved? cheers
  11. this car had a macbuilt v5 ra engine put in. i have no idea what they did hence why its going into my mechanic. I am a dunce when it comes to engines, therefore I leave it to the pros to sort for me Here is hoping it is a quick fix. I dont want her to be sitting in a shop for a week
  12. Hi there It is going into shop tomorrow to get an idle fixed. However I thought I would throw this out there. I could not find a definitive answer and I know these issues can be a number of things. However I start the car in the morning and it idles fine on warm up. but after I drive it around when i come to a stop it starts to isle rough and jump up and down between 0-1000 revs. It has stalled once on me so when stationary I sometimes give her a few taps of the throttle to keep her running. No issues when driving. I have cleaned the carbon out of the idle controller valve. Might be time for a new one. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what they did to fix it? Cheers
  13. hi there I have been scouring the net about the specs over the wrx and b4s etc. What is the overall performance like between the v7 wrx and v5 and 6 wrxs. Was there a noticeable drop in horse power? I seem to be reading 226hp for the 2002 wrx and i thought it was up at 280hp standard for the b4s around that same year and also the older wrxs. Can someone please clarify this? Were the older rex\'s that much quicker then the new? Or is the 226hp rex the american market only? cheers
  14. Cheers scooby. I cannot find him on the user/member list? Is that the correct user name for him?
