You can - just prepare for a little spray!
Relay is driver side beside fuse box - easy to get to and ensures she won't blind you or set your engine alight..
its near right knee and is round as per picture.

Ok so what is the general consensus on the average HID life expectancy?About two years ago my Front-Left HID blew and I replaced it with one from Repco, didn’t really think much of it at the time as it’s the first replacement HID I’ve done on this car. Now approximately two years down the track it blew again. The Front-Right has been going strong ever since the car hit the shore in NZ about 4 years ago, I was expecting the new Repco bulb to at minimum outlast the other. I believe the headlight to be water tight and there are no signs of moister. Also I like to think that bad wiring or shorts are out of the question but would appreciate any advice on some ways to confirm this. Also while I’m on the HID rant, has anyone tried the HID bulbs from Trademe. For example X2 6000k HID’s for $40? Sounds good to me as a Repco one puts me back $150. Just unsure of the overall quality and what might be getting sacrificed when going with an unknown branded HID bulb. Note: its low beam that failed both times, high beam is fine.Chur.
Just did mine - no probs with eBay bulbs (8000k)

Changed oil and filter...scratched the crap outta my hands changing plugs...

What did you gap the new spark plugs too?
And are the coils on securely?
Had same issue with my B4 - check coil packs are tightened down securely - also ensure they have clean contact with block as they ground through the bolt that holds em down. Did you have an auxiliary grounding strap attached to any of the coil bolts?
(assuming coil on plug - sorry not sure of setup on that model)

Pulled intercooler, found out what was causing the squeaks and thuds in the centre of the engine bay: Pitch stop mounting bold was loose and clip that holds heater hoses to pitch stop was broken (hoses were rubbing and squeaking). Cleaned out throttle body and maf sensor while I was at it.... Tied up a few wires with cable ties..all before 6am

Not sure about batch/Blend quality control or whether its just daily temperature variation, but I do notice varying performance when fuelling from the same BP station (98 ) on Memorial here in CHC. Then again, mine starts getting pingy when I\'m caught in traffic (Heatsoak and Jap tune) so ECU probably backflipping constantly lol

Re-wired fuel pump for a friend who flooded her 98 VW polo in that massive downpour a few weeks back (big puddle wet wiring loom). Pulled out her brand new sony head unit to check why it wasn\'t working and discovered melted power/antenna and ground cables. Off the shelf VW-Sony \'plug-in-adaptors\' nearly caused a fire....
Edit: Paid the rent with soldering iron burn on forearm when tidying up

My 2001 BE5 does the same in cold weather. Once warm, smell goes away. When I get time, will pull manifold to have a look

Pulled timing for det control(retard) til I can get it tuned for 98. It doesnt det til top mount gets warm in traffic. Been talking to SAS about road tune when I get time. Its my daily so cant afford to take it off the road - maybe when I get a block of days off.

Just a dumb question - what fuel are you running?

Changed gearbox oil to Nulon 75W-90 Smooth Shift - Took longer than expected with a scissor jack and jackstands....also got lucky with the right sized open-ended spanner cos the "K" Brace gets in the way of the drain bolt..
Pulled front sway bar bushings to check out their condition - as expected need new ones. Put a dab of grease on em and reinstalled til I get new ones...
Pulled double-din kenwood headunit off to install ipod cable into CD Changer port - didnt work but now I have a permanent charge cable for my iphone 3

Just pulled 2 degrees of global timing and increased EBC duty cycle - car feels much more responsive, boost comes on quicker and VOD is more of a changeover. May have just been the cold air...
Still some lag between gears - might have to clean BBOD solenoids/filters....thinking something may be sticking open/slow to close...cos once its back on boost, it kicks you in the back!

Removed cheap chinese MAF sensor cos it was shonky.
Did an ECU reset on the fly at a friends place after re-fitting original good sensor....then realized it was a dumb idea cos the WIFI-IPAD ELM interface thingy cant tweak my idle...so limped home idling at around 650rpm at the lights (hose10 mod limitation...)
Got home, plugged in laptop and tweaked idle and pulled 2 degrees of timing.
Adjusted duty cycle (increased) of EBC and went for a run....performance has somewhat improved with the timing/EBC tweaks 😎

Transposed new chinese \'no brand\' AFM into B4 - old denso unit a bit dirty...might clean it with carby cleaner and keep it as spare. Car starts - have to reset ecu and go for a drive yet...
