V4/5/6 are all the same.
yes i know, i was replying to him asking what I had.
yeah dont really want to spend too much, maybe something like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUBARU-98-00-IMPREZA-GC-GF-WRX-STI-97-01-FORESTER-60MM-TRIPLE-METER-GAUGE-POD-/301085561743 anything shoudl look better than my current setup of the 3 gauges screwed to the lid.

IS there anywhere to get a dash mounted 3x60mm gauge pod for gc8? looks like the defi one is only for v7+? ive seen the zerosports ones around but they are quite pricy, is there any other option?
-
Because I heard the OEM one cost all the money. I assume that they clip into those two holes at the top? If you have some that wuld be amazing. I want to hook it up to on OEM I/C spray button anyway so will ask. Who is the best place to get OEM stuff from, Winger?
-
oh, that was just for looks, ill drill a hole in the side or something to run it properly. Have no drill at the moment so its just tucked into those gromets at the back of the bonnet,

Started on project intercooler sprayer. Failed due to it seems that my rear window motor doesnt work, has 12v going ot it but no water comes out the pipes/nozzle. Works fine when i plug it into the front window motor. Need to now purchase another motor/bottle and mount it in the boot properly. Total cost so far is 8$. lack of drill meant i cant actually mount the nozzles yet.

Trackdays. Stock STI is plenty fast enough and handles well enough for the road. Mods ive done have all been trackday orientated.

Went in last week expecting BEB, came back with only this, everythign went better than expected...
Not bad for 150km service.

Is there a thread on what suspension is interchangeable with what models, or what needs to be changed.
http://www.subaruspeed.co.nz/products/strut-set-cusco-impreza-01-03 chance or whats needed of fitting, iirc its swapping top hats or something?

So after all that, I took it in to subtech and also petermark autos for them to have a listen, and they said its not a bearing. Rekon its just cam overlap or wear, so nothing major to worry about. So not sure how Winger diagnosed signs of big end wear when two other subaru specialists said they cant hear anything.

Don\'t ya hate that? Always makes you wonder if they\'re genuinely helpful or just trying to score the job...
If you mean winger then they ended up losing money since im now getting it serviced by subtech instead.
Unless subtech/petermark are just trying to get me to drive on a failing bearing so it blows up proper and makes me do a full rebuild with them /tinfoilhat

It has been a few time, yes. Not for 4 or 5 months though.

Oh right, i thought this "So factor in $2-300 for bearings, engine reco labour to strip, assemble, resize and skim, etc and may as well do rings while youre in there," was going to cost 2.5k, forgot about the new shortblock thing. Ill find out my options tomorrow I guess. If I can get a running car to at least factory sapec for ~3k I can afford to do it now, if its more ill park it up, buy a cheap runabout and worry about it in 6months-1yr
-
yeah but that 2.5k is installed and done isnt it? where the 2.9k will still involve money to swap over and install. I dont really plan on having more than 200ish kw anytime soon. Im going in to subtech and petermark autos tomorrow to talk with them and see. Basically if i can have the whole thing done for around 3k or less ill do it now, anything more and ill have to wait. I still have to factor in a baffled sump and tune as well at some point.
-
Spoke to winger and picked up car, apparently they dont sell jdm short blocks? he said he spoke to subaru NZ and they only sell replacement nz/au dm ones and dont recommend it. Oh well hopefully "found showing early signs of big end wear" means its mostly salvagable for a rebuild. Now to decide how far I want to go with it and how much futureproofing.
-
Yeah i have a couple of mechanic friends, and hopefully i can use dads garage as i dont have a flat surface, so id like to do as much as I can, plus the learning experience.
-
Yeah not so keen on second hand block, ill either go new v7 shortblock,. or look at getting my current one fixed/rebuilt?
Is there a best thread for this kind of thing for approx costs? clubsub search is awful and google search brings up too many threads. Need a definitive BEB rebuild thread
Also I guess I need to find out why its happened, ive been pretty tame with it the last month or so, and only noticed the noise on monday. Its pretty quiet.
-
Took car into wingers for 150k service, came out with BEB failure diagnosis At least I caught it early so its still driveable but need to decide what to do, buy cheap runabout and stick subaru in garage for 6 months, or scrounge money and do the rebuild or new block thing.
Sigh.
-
Itll end up being pushed to the back of the drive with a cover on it for a year while i buy a $1500 shitter if thats the case...
-
care seems to have developed a knocking noise at idle today not sure how or why, barely drove it today, just happened to hear it on turbo timer. Better not be spontaneous BEB or its getting parked up for some time. Taking it in to winger on wed for 150000km servicing, hopefully they say its nothing major and just something loose
-
is TP bad then?
