  1. I have no problem with cops on the beat. They are doing a bloody good job dealing with lowlifes and degenerates every day. A job that couldn't do. That said.....I think the decision makers have put far to much emphasis on ticketing people for offences that have little effect on the fabric of our society. I live in the north-west of Christchurch and I couldn't count the amount of times there has been a small army of officers catching people at 8am for not indicating or other minor offences at an intersection I have yet to see an accident at. And if I see another add campaign saying 107 km/hr is going to kill me I don't no what I am going to do. IMO it is blatant money making, and just a way securing enough money to run the force without increasing their government budget. This method of funding, I think, has a negative effect on the police force's public perception. Whether it is a case of switching back to the old MOT system, I don't know. But I do think there needs to be switch in the primary objective of the police force from what seems like a highly visible money making machine to the real crime fighting machine we all expect. My 2 cents.
  2. That is correct. The information I have says it is the screen itself that needs replacing. I am hoping I can just replace it with one from an Aussie Liberty. It might be a while before I do this though, as I just got a new dog and he will take up a lot of my time for the foreseeable future.
  3. Have got an email back from Kenwood, Japan which confirms the unit cannot display in English. Thier email below: Mr. Carwyn Thank you for your mail dated 7th May 2010. Unfortunetely, the Navigation unit is made for only Japan and not possible to change the language in English. Yours sincerely, Tomokazu Yamamoto So the only hope now is to import one from an Aussie or American market Legacy. I'll let you all know how I get on with that.
  4. Na, mine has a DVD player in the glove box and noting under the seat. Although there are two plugs not connected to anything under the seat so there may have been something there once. Can you take your screen out and tell me the model number on the top of it? The plastic surround just pops of and then there are two screws holding the screen in place. Once you undo the screws the screen is still held by two pop off connectors, so just pull and it will come out. Let me know.
  5. On the setup menu there are four buttons that you can toggle on and off. One of them is for the beeping. If you can't find it I can look at mine and give detailed instructions, but it wasn't that hard to find. although ours might be different as mine has a DVD player.
  6. The word "rangi" comes to mind ;D
  7. Yes I have talked to them, at length. For the most part, they don't know. And so there answer is no. They say if I can get them a part number they can contact Subaru in Japan and get it. I have found the DVD I need on the Japanese auction site yahoo. Unfortunately the photo isn't good enough to see the part number. I have seen photos on another website of the same system displaying in English. It had the same part number as well. I've emailed a few people in Japan, including Kenwood. I'll let you all know once I hear back from them. One thing Subaru NZ did confirm is that the latest NZ mapping DVD works on the Aussie 2004 Liberty SatNav. So if I can't get mine to work I will get an Aussie one from a wrecker in Sydney.
  8. That's what I thought. But I have been through all the options on the screen, and it seems all the dvd does is load the maps. Thanks for the heads up, I will give them a call on Monday.
  9. Yea, I've got a 2003 bp5. Any hints on getting it working? I have talked to loads of people about and they all say the same thing.....That you can't change the language. Although the Subaru dealership said it would be a lucrative method if I could work it out. If I can get one from Aussie I would be happy.
  10. Yip that's what mine does as well. I am trying my hardest to get it into english. I am hoping to get a unit out of an aussie one. Satnav won't work but at least everything will be in english. For those who care the unit is made by Kenwood and is a Y31-2250. I have dowloaded a couple of "start-up" dvds now and neither of them work. Although the ones I have tried are for the facelift one, which may or may not be different.
  11. He would of held that in a Subaru.........What......To soon? On a more serious note that is a very scary crash especially in what looks like a street car with no roll cage. Poor guy probably wouldn't have insurance either, being on a race track and all......Quick push it out on the street before the cops get here. :
  12. Hence my "looking like you're raping it" comment. A 6,000 rpm launch from the lights doesn't exactly look like a composed take off. Don't get me wrong when I go for a drive in the hills or something it is very "rewarding". It's just 99% of the time you're not driving in those situations. I guess I'm just getting old and no longer see the point of a 300hp daily driver. My plan is to buy a turbo legacy or audi and a dedicated race subby with a full cage etc ;D
  13. I gonna come from the other direction here. I've owned wrxs, forester, gtb legacies and now a v7 STi. TBH the best car for open road and around town driving I owned was my v5 wrx with a full exhaust on its little tdo4 turbo. The smaller turbo is much more "friendly" in that you can do quick little "blips" of power low in the rev range. Like taking of from the lights rapidly without looking like you're raping it or a quick burst up to 120 to pass something. The STi on the other hand is a lot of fun when you put your foot down. It has much more punch when the turbo finally kicks in. Going by my "seat o pants" meter I would say the wrx makes more power than an STi in the lower rev range but once you get up to about 4,000 rpm the STi takes off. Not to mention the STi uses about twice the amount of fuel! So there are defiantly compromises which ever way you go.
  14. That would have been a funny step to miss out. Especially if he was pulling it out on his chest Also you will need to unbolt the gear stick linkages
  15. Fair enough. I've always stayed with Telecom as they have the best speeds in my area. Have recently looked into swapping again, but the others never really stack up in my books. You have to pay Telecom an extra $10 for a static IP though. I wish I had a Telstra cable in my street.
  16. sucky -smurff If you guys really want him to win and are on a standard broadband connection (i.e. not with a static IP) just vote, then restart your modem/router then vote again. When you restart your modem you'll be given a new IP and be able to vote again .
  17. Sweet as. I've always used after market and have never had a problem. (not replaced one on a 6 speed yet though). I did 2 outers on a mates nissan a few years ago, went to see how much originals were and they quoted me over $1600 ex Japan. The guy then told me there is some law about carrying second hand parts for cars they sell for 10 years (i.e. have to carry parts for a car until it is 10 years old) but that they price things so high that they never have to actually sell them. Don;t know if he was full of s**t or not, but sounded good.
  18. 6 speed or 5 speed? I've got 2 complete axles for a 5 speed in the garage you could have for less than the price of a new joint.
  19. Cheers guys, will call them tomorrow and see whats what.
  20. But can I put it on this exemption if it hasn't been registered for 12 months? It's hard because when I go to VTNZ to talk to someone I just get the receptionist, who doesn't really know and just "makes something up" I'm sure. I'm reading the NZTA website now, so hopefully I can find out exactly what the go is from there.
  21. yea it's just not Ben registered for 12 momths, not much more though I don't think. What is this exemption. How do I do that, just go to the post office?
  22. So could I strip it myself and take it down there in bits?
  23. Yea that is what I've said. It costs $500 or $600 up front no matter what. And then the car could need hundreds spent on it getting it up to standard. Best to let it be someone else's problem IMO.
  24. Thanks for that. Exactly what I needed to know. The lady I was talking to at VTNZ was being rather vague so I wondered if she knew what she was on about. Nothing should need certing as it is completely standard. Although it is a bit rough (owned by a lady who hasn't taken care of it) so have no idea if it will pass a normal WOF let alone a vigorous compliance type inspection.
  25. Rather you than me. I would hate to come against some old ford or holden in that thing.
