Leaking Coolant BG5 Help waned Nth Shore
Johnnybegood replied to Johnnybegood's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Hmmm, new radiator is in, oil change done (the old oil looks clean as). Not loosing coolant, but there\'s water/steam coming out the exhuast in huge proportions. Where is it coming from?! -

Cheers Guys, JoKer I\'m on the north shore. Yea, going to check the plugs tonight, and try get a compression test done. Is it normal/possible to pass the TK if it is a blown HG? My understanding would be, if it\'s the HG then cylinder fumes have to enter the coolant system and therefore fail the test? -

BUMP - Ok guys, really need help now! So, car runs mint, oil is perfect AND it flew through a TK test. Symptoms are; burning coolant and it\'s eventually coming out the exhaust, but it\'s not missing or bubbling out the radiator? I think its the Head Gaskets, but how can I know for sure? If i get under the engine, when I turn it off I can hear it kind off \'breathing\' like air is being sucked into the system... Any thoughts? Please -

Cheers man, yea, I think its the thermostat thats gone and the radiators got a leak as a result. The heater isn\'t warm at all, but speaking to my neighbor last night who\'s a mechanic he\'s going to come round tonight and run some tests on it. Be awesome if it\'s something simple -
Leaking Coolant BG5 Help waned Nth Shore
Johnnybegood replied to Johnnybegood's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Ok, quick update. Radiator is leaking, and it looks like oil is getting into the coolant. The engine oil still looks new, and it isn\'t bubbling. Is this the head gaskets? Or is there some other way like the intake manifold etc? Really need your help guys -
Whats a good price to have my head gaskets replaced? Got quotes ranging from $1100 to $2200. Cheaper isn\'t too bad as most of the seals are all good, and waterpump/everything is fine. Is there anyone on here that would do it/be happy to help me do it? More than happy to pay of course

BUMP - is there anyone on here/know of anyone who\'d be happy to do this? I\'d be keen to help but need someone who\'s done it a few times just to make sure nothing goes wrong. cheers -

Cheers Joker, It just doesn\'t seem to be doing anything you\'d expect a Head Gasket to be if it was that, other than the coolant leaking with it appearing out the exhaust. I\'ll have a look at the crossover pipe, presumably I could tell straight away if it was this? cheers -
Hey guys, short story is I have a 2L TSR second gen legacy. Drove it yesterday morning and within 10 mins notice the temps up and manage to get home without it getting too hot. Had to refill the entire radiator with water to check for a leak, and unfortunately I could eventually see a tiny bit of steam/water coming out the exhaust. The coolant isn\'t bubbling yet when it\'s running, and it\'s not missing at all. Just want to confirm this is 99% likely to be a head gasket? And that there aren\'t any obvious ways for it to leak at any other point in the system? Had the cambelt done last year, so will likely try and get this fixed. It\'s something I\'d feel I could replace myslef, just don\'t know anyone with an engine hoist/would prefer to pay someone to help for a day to make sure it\'s all good. cheers guys
-
Cheers man, it was more that neither of them wanted to thread when I put them in. I ended up getting a tap and tidying up the thread, and filed the bolts a bit. Eventually got one started and then the second bit as well
-
Cheers for the advise guys. Ended up going to pick a part on saturday, managed to find a few parts that had snapped on my car, and even got a new momo steering wheel so will need to fit that. Also found a leggy that had some new looking Nolathane N45440 bushes, which i got both sides for. Put them on and then struggled for a few hours as the control arm bolts didn\'t want to go back in!? Managed to eventually get them going and passed it\'s WOF yesterday now to install that steering wheel
-
yea, that\'s what I think. Having looked online, i\'ll need to get an alignment check if I replace the control arm? in which case maybe the wreckers isn\'t the cheapest
-
Thanks Swindog. I\'m not sure if its that one. Yea, was VTNZ. Will inspect the bushing when i get home. Think the wreckers is the way to go
-
Did the exhaust last night, was just a gasket. It\'s the control arm, inner rear bush that\'s leaking but by the sound of it replacing the whole arm is easiest
-
Yea, the lower control arm. I think going to the wreckers might be the way to go then, hopefully not too hard to replace
-
Sorry guys, should have said. It\'s the front inner rear bush that\'s shot. Had a quote from a suspension shop who said $190 excl. wingers want $160 for the part alone! Had a look at the Haynes manual and looks pretty easy, just don\'t know what to replace it with
-
Cheers Guys, yea quotes for the bush are around $100 -$120. If you could point me in the direction for a DIY it would be greatly appreciated. I can do most things with the car. Exhaust I\'ll have to look at, but not too sure how to do it myself. Had the cambelt done at highbrook last year and they thought it looked good, I\'m not too worried although the mrs is! haha
-
Took Car for warrant, car failed warrant well, girlfriend took it for a warrant. Right front bush is leaking (any idea on cost/how easy these are to replace?!?) Exhaust leaking, knew that so will get that fixed. And apparently my clutch is going to go, even though it feels great?!? thoughts?

Hey guys, Don\'t really know a lot about suspension issues, but given some instructions etc I can work my way through things. My shocks are suffering from what I believe is the dreaded "knocking" noise.... Cars a 98\' legacy TS-R with 170,000km\'s on the clock. When coming to a stop, the car stops but then you hear a thud and it feels like the rear of the car is dropping or stopping at a delayed period. I\'ve seen how you regrease the struts etc, but these are considered to be "gas pressurized" which has left me thinking I shouldn\'t touch them... Just wanting to know what should be done/replaced/changed cheers!

BG5 Pads and Rotors Help!
Johnnybegood replied to Johnnybegood's topic in Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Cheers for all the info guys, I\'ve sourced all the parts I need. I had a look back through all the records and don\'t see any mention of the rotors being replaced.... It\'s a 98, so is there anyway I can visibly (or some other way) see if the rotors need to be changed? I also have a clunking noise from my suspension (when I added weight to the boot slowly it suddenly dropped a long way) I presume this is the sticky grease/butter grease thing and I can take the struts out when I do the brakes and regrease them? -
BG5 Pads and Rotors Help!
Johnnybegood replied to Johnnybegood's topic in Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Cheers guys. So you\'d be inclined to replace all the rotors regardless of the condition of the old ones? Probably makes sense as I don\'t know how long they\'ve been on there or the thickness of them -
Hi guys, am looking at brake pads for my 98 TS-R.... I am prepared to change these myself, however am unsure as to the condition of the rotors, Not sure when they were last skimmed or replaced but don\'t want to replace the pads then find I need new ones... phoned a few companies, pit stop, midas etc and they were charging $300 to replace my front pads which seemed ridiculous - what\'s a fair price for new pads, fitment and then on top of that new rotors or skimming? At this stage will probably go to Highbrook as they were great with my cambelt last year. cheers

Whats up with my heater core

Whats up with my heater core
Johnnybegood replied to Johnnybegood's topic in General Vehicle Discussion
Really, That's good in the sense I don't need to worry about it having a leak as much.... Is there any way in which you can force pressure through the system? Or just hope it bleeds itself? cheers, -
Hey guys, got a 98 TS-R legacy. Anyway, replaced the heater core a month back now, and as soon as I did I could hear air bubbling/gurgling in behind the dash, thought no biggie, the system needs to be bled properly as we did it rather quickly. So one weekend I drained all the coolant and refilled the system (on an up-slope, with the heaters on etc), still the same problem! After doing this 3 times, last weekend I decided to take the hoses off and flush the heater core (looked fine) and re-filled; still the same noise! It's really annoying (usually at higher revs so when you start to engine brake etc). yes, the heater works perfectly, it's not overheating and it's not leaking coolant; but somehow air is either staying in there and not getting out, or it's leaking in but doesn't leak.... Help :-\
