  1. Cheers Funky, pretty much all the other 100,000km stuff has been done when I brought it, changed all gearbox oils, complete coolant flush and changed plugs, fuel filter, new brake and clutch fluid etc. Had a really good go over when I brought it at 65,000km\'s.

    Yeah I might just bite the bullet and do it, can do the work myself and with trade prices on parts would only be about 600-800 bucks. Just interested on what peoples thoughts were.

    Kind of a random question that I might already have answered myself, but just thought I would get some other opinions.

    I have a 2004 Subaru WRX STI, now its only done 71,000km\'s from new, and it doesn\'t appear to have had the cambelt done. I\'ve always been under the impression that normally you just change it at 100,000kms and your away laughing, but recently I\'ve been told there is a age limit. First call I made was to Subaru and they told be 100,000km\'s or 3 years which ever comes first, so if that\'s the case it\'s well over due.

    Then I remembered I have a workshop manual, and it states 165,000km or 8 years which ever comes first. Which still makes it slightly over-due as its a 10 year old car now. Just wanting a bit more input as I was intending on selling it all going to plan. But do you guys think I should do the cambelt for piece of mind I get trade pricing on Subaru stuff so the cost won\'t be to expensive.

    Any input it appreciated, cheers.

  3. Myth or not, I ran a K&N panel filter in my Legacy and needed to replace my AFM. I put it down to the age/km\'s on the car and thought nothing of it. When I brought my V8 WRX I ran one in it less than 1000km\'s after fitting it (not over oiled or anything) same deal needed to replace the AFM and the car had only done 65,000km. After spending $310 on a air flow meter I wasn\'t willing to run the risk again, so now have a dry type HKS one.

    I realise there is so many different factors to take into account, but in my own opinion I wouldn\'t run one again in less running a link or similar, and doing away with the air flow meter.

    So on that topic I have a slightly used K&N panel filter that someone can have for $50 + postage.

  4. Miss my old Legacy, glad it\'s getting wel looked after. Owner before me had changed around some of the vacuum lines (less VOD) not 100% sure what\'s been done to it.

    But if you turn the boost controller off (not recommeded) the boost climbs quite high it\'s like theres no factory control going on. I never really worried about it, as is fine with the boost controller on and pulls well with stuff all VOD.

    Just keep it in mind.

  5. Hoist was finally free at work, so got all my gearbox and diff oils changed. My cars only done 65,000km and was unsure if they had been done at all. But the old oil was still a yellowish colour, at least I know it\'s been done now though.

    Also changed the antifreeze, and replaced the air flow meter, and got rid of the K&N air filter that was in it and replaced with a HKS dry type one.

    So much easier using a hoist as opposed to axle stands and a jack.

    Next issue I have to sort is knocking rear shocks, it\'s on a V8 STI WRX I\'ve been told that regreaseing them works with some success.

  6. Yeah sorry I was talking about V8 one, I got told to expect well over $500 so I was quite surprised with it being a lot cheaper. Just thought it might have been some random info someone might have liked to of known.

  7. Sorry ignore the O2 Sensor comment I made, while a O2 sensor can cause issues your right it won\'t effect the air flow meter at all.

    Priced a genuine AFM today and was quite surprised apparently they have come down in price and are $352 Inc GST.

    I know this money could be put to better use getting a link, or similar. Biggest issue is my location deep south, no one down here I would really trust.

  8. Just had another thought, you don\'t have any leaks / splits or such in your intake. I know mine had a small split that could have been letting dust in on my Legacy, which I replaced as soon as I noticed it.

    Also can a dodgy O2 sensor kill a AFM, just wondering if that might be causeing you issues.

    Another silly question, doesn\'t have a aftermarket BOV (wouldn\'t have thought so being a auto)?

    Keep us posted if you uncover anything, as AFM definatly seem to be a weak point on pretty much all Subarus. Haven\'t been game to price one for my V8 yet, as I think it will be pretty expensive.

  9. I\'ve had similar issue\'s done a MAF in my 2000 Legacy E-tune, and put it down to the age of the car. And going to have to do one in my 2004 WRX STI, which I\'ve put down to having a BOV venting full with no plumb back (on the car when I brought it) and a K&N panel filter (same deal already in the car).

    Got a dry type HKS on order, and changed it back to stock BOV so hopefully no more issues, at least for a few years anyways.

    Was lucky enough to get my car plugged into a really awesome scan tool, that does a live read out and checks pretty much everything and my MAF was out by quite a bit, hot and cold. Going to replace the filter and attempt to give MAF cleaner a go (nothing to lose really) and he\'s agreed to re-check for no charge.

    As far as replacing 6 or 7 thats crazy there has to be something else going on surely.

  10. Cool glad to hear it, haven\'t done a lot to mine yet been a bit busy with work. All I\'ve done so far is Znoelli pads and rotors with motul brake fluid. And changed the blow off valve back to stock.

    Got a few things planned as time and money allows for it, trying to buy a house as well so have to focus on that a bit.

    Bit old for the whole car meet up thing, but next time theres drag racing at Teratonga should organise a few to go. I\'d be keen to run my car down the strip for a laugh more than anything.

  11. My cars a stock V8 WRX Sti, and apparently that makes it a boy-racer car according to the local police. I frequently get pulled up and they are some what surprised when they see I\'m in my late 20\'s and don\'t really fit the typical boy-racer profile.

    Does amuse me that a random road side breath test seems to get drawn out to nearly 30 mins. And everything gets run over with a fine tooth comb, including your own details like where you work, where your heading etc.

    I guess thats just the way things are these days.

    I done a bit of a search first on both here, and google. But didn\'t find the information that I was kind of after. My brother just brought a 1996 Subaru Impreza GF8 with only 95,000kms on the clock. It doesn\'t seem overly fast (bearing in mind I\'m used to driving my V8 WRX STI) but doesn\'t appear to be anything wrong with it runs mint. Bout the only infomation I can find is that they down-graded the turbo from a TD05, to a TD04 to make it more responsive.

    Is there much involved with changing it to a TD05 again much gain to be had? Or is there a better turbo option for it? It\'s a non-sti version also.

    Doesn\'t want to spend huge money and isn\'t chasing massive power or anything, just wants it to get along a bit better.
