hmmm i like that piping style going over the back from the turbo....Seems much nicer/tideyr than teh other way..

Can i just ask how is that intercooler goign to do anyhting as its totally covered..

Youd be better wtih the factory top mount over that

i doubt that very much, HDi have it dyno'd at +30kw with the same bumper setup as mine. The core is actually pretty small (HDi 580 x 210 x 100mm rather than the 600x300x50 DSR kit) so only about half is exposed but it is at least twice as thick in size. but the way the bumper is setup it actually pushes air up into the whole core.

Not the best pics of the front either, didnt really wanna have to get down on all 4s. The pics are taken slightly higher than at even level with the intake

Yea i think i did ok,it's just one of the DSR kits for a wrx but works well. I'm probably going to get one of the HDi kits off trademe when i can afford it. Then i can have my spotties back in and put the radiator overflow bottle back in instead of the redbull can i'm currently using.

Yea exactly that, its tricky getting in and out of the momo seat without leaning on them so ended up giving up on the pontoons.

Iv just had my HDi SF5 Forester intercooler kit powdercoated and fitted. Keep posted for photos, i originally had a DSR kit but they are rubbish, inconsistant pipe width and not exactly the best fitting kit. HDi - very professinal to deal with too even if they are aussies

    Nice,will do.

  3. hey guys, finally got the front mount kit sorted and installed and i can notice the difference already over the top mount and even more so over the cheap DSR kit i use to have installed. If anyone is considering purchasing a front mount kit i would highly recommend the HDi kit, fits and performs well and has consistant 2.5" pipes all the way around unlike the DSR kit which was 3" in places, 2.5" in others and even got down to 2". Here are some rough pics and ill be uploading more in the futute once the cars a bit cleaner.

    thanks

2001 Subaru Forester S/tb Turbo purchased from Bayswater Subaru in Napier August 2008 with 55000km on the clock. Currently has 62000km. Kms are certified by AA. Car doesn’t get driven much as I bike to work.

It is a 2.0L Turbo, 5 Speed Manual with 4 wheel drive. It has an Insurers approved, 5 Star Remac Alarm system worth $599 with dual immobiliser and a back up battery as well as a glass break sensor. Installed by Remac alarms in Napier (have receipts)

    Exterior:

Full Aero spec body kit with Aero spec grill (have an alternative “F” forester grill as well which I will include) Comes with the 18” mags which are pictured and the original wheels and tyres as well. Mags are 18x7.5 Advanti Medusa which were brought off Trade Me a few months ago, have a little bit of curbage from previous owner. The mags are wrapped with 235/45/18 Adrenalines which were purchased from Tonys Tyre Service in Feb 09 for $1120 (I have receipt, price is for tyres only and wheel alignment) Car is on standard springs and has not been lowered.

Factory 20% tints on the back windows, boot and rear window. 35% tints on the drivers and passenger door. Front windows done by Tint Mai Ride in Hastings (have receipts)

Aftermarket black indicator lights. Have original amber ones which I will include.

    I.C.E

Head unit is a Double Din Kenwood MP3/CD player with a USB port at the front, has tonnes of features and a remote. All speakers have been replaced. Fronts are now Pioneer 6.5” components with cross overs and the rears are Pioneer 4” (only size that would fit without modification) Stereo goes very well. All speakers and head unit were installed by Remac Alarms as well.

    Engine:

Internals are all standard and boost has never been played with. I have a full mechanical warranty on this car with the modifications done, I have a written letter from insurer that vehicle is covered under the warranty. Mechanical warranty has 2.3 years remaining and covers everything other than general wear and tear. Mods include:

Genuine HKS Reloaded Air Intake (have original box and manuals and maybe a receipt. Purchased from Redline Performance)

Genuine HKS SSQV Blow off Valve (have original box and manuals and maybe a receipt. Purchased from Hyper) BOV can be plumbed back to reduce noise, I have the fittings for this.

    STi Genome Front Strut Bar

STi V7 Exhaust system off a 2001 WRX STi

600x280mm DSR Front Mount Intercooler with polished aluminium piping. Spot lights were removed so they piping would fit behind in the bumper.

I still have all the original parts which will be included, factory top mount, factory BOV and air intake as well as the spotlights

Car goes very well, looks awesome when its clean as it has a red pearl throughout the black. Haven’t seen one around that looks this nice and stealth with the intercooler well hidden. Very fast when it needs to be but just a fun car to drive around. Very well looked after and is my pride and joy.

No time wasters or swaps. I don’t need to sell so don’t bother offering me something ridiculous. Search Trade Me and show me one with less kms and as much money spent on it as this.

  9. Hey guys, finally gonna get a full exhaust but just wanted some opinions and options.

Im gonna get a HKS universal muffler and get pit stop to do all the work so all i need now is a reputable brand down pipe.

Dont know much about them so any ideas? 2.5 inch is all im after. I know HKS have a down pipe for the SF5 forester but its a 3" which is way more than i need.

so yeah any ideas or reccomendations on down pipes would be cool, ill buy one and the HKS muffler and then have pit stop put all the peices together. should run mint then with the front mount and a little more boost.

Haha that Foz has one of those lame little "parking mirrors" which only show you were your car ends in that direction! ;D

Hey DPI, Do you know where I can get some say Type II M spot light covers or of someone who can get some spot covers made for my Forester? Im not going to spend $150 on replacement spotties which I dont use.

btw So gonna save money for one of those Gen 1 bonnets! Thats mint!

you can buy my spotties.... i have both in mint condition, didnt fit back it place with front mount pipes in the way... and im also after some spot light covers

where did you get your front mount from as the ones I have seen the bigger pipe goes the other way?

the dick at DSR (driftsideracing) sold me the kit, came with no instructions and he was no help at all. All he did was send it then he didn't answer any of my emails.

This kit works perfect because it all fits in place without having to move or modify anything (other than needing an after market air filter).

The pipes which go the other way a round are usually WRX kits and the right hand pipe usually runs along the top towards the battery and down where the overflow tank is which either has to be moved or replaced (iv seen a few people use drink cans but it looks horrible!!!)

Gen 1 Forester Carbon bonnets now in store.

Limited number's available until next shipment, so first in etc...

Due to dollar, our bonnets now retail for $1599, but Clubsub members get 10% discount $1440.

got a pic? pref on a forester

  13. I have a HKS pod because of my intercooler piping but i am currently getting a cold air box made as on several times i have felt the filter to be quite hot after a blat around town. im gonna get another pipe to feed cold air from down by the spot light up into the new box, air should be nice and crisp once it reaches the filter

  14. Go front mount, i noticed a bit of lag when going from top mount to front but but you soon get use to it, nothing a turbo back exhaust or boost controller cant fix and onces your up in the revs it just seems to keep climbing . . . its awesome. Noticeable difference in intake temp too. I also didnt find it too hard to get it to fit with my bumper, just mock it up and keep shaving but iv got for the whole stealth approach. I also noticed that my HKS SSQV blow off valve its alot louder now because it doesn't have the piddly hose as it is now welded on with a flange and lets alot more pressure out, also gives off the nice chuffy sequential noise. if you need help with a front mount let me know. It only took about 6 hours all up to do.

the black forester is quite nice. did you have to modify much to have a front mount intercooler. also just wondering your front grill can they go on most foresters cheers?

Nah not really, the core is 600x280 so it doesn't pop out the bottom of the bumper like some do, it just took heaps of shaving and cutting from behind to get it to fit over the intercooler. Had to shave a bit around where the spot lights were. I have seen people with front mounts who managed to put their spotlights back in but i think they were running a 600x300 IC which means the inlet and outlets on either side we lower and the pipes ran underneath the spotlights rather than right through them like mine does.

Other than that the kit went in pretty easily. It was a SF5 specific kit and although it didn't fit perfectly and was initially worried how the pipes laid out once it was all in i haven't had a problem with it.

I only presume my grill can go on any as i a got a few different styles when i brought the car from the car yard. Apparently it was imported with a few so got a different one which i can swap when i want.
