  1. double checked the cam timing today...was fine.. replaced the inlet mani gaskets.. done compression test all above 150psi... checked all piping and all hoses... still low vacum... any ideas?
  2. i had a look does not have avcs thanks for the advice i also double checked the sparks again...took off the driverside leads and started it..and it started so its nothing to do with it..so its running on all 4. what i did was got a short block 2nd hand and bolted my heads onto it (the last owner got a rebuild apparently....she was knock knock knock..thinking it was a big end bearing....so stripd it and reassemble and so on... didnt look much into old block..it was at work and today my other workmate had a look...and holly sh!t !!3 old style valve recese pistons and one v7 piston!!!!!!!the v7 piston was sticking out 1mm!!!the block was a ej20r.....mmm went to bolt on flywheel and the engine wont move~!!!???? the flywheel had been lightened and the back face was flat!!!!they "GRIND" the ribbing on the block to make it fit!!! havent got the receipt or found out the 'engine builder' yet but oh dam they better get shut down! only got it running last nite was quite late so didnt go much further after work today done somemore checking made sure all fluids were good and no leaks. took for a drive out the country didnt thrash it just to put some kms in and see wat it ran like its got a lumpy idle and low vacum..hesitates at low rpms and seems lack of power down low...as the revs go up it runs pretty smooth and power is not too bad running factory boost 7psi with vf28, no smoke and oil bunning so i doubt it be rings making it low compression =which mite lead to low vacum.no oil in water or water in oil..not using water so no head gasket leak either...certain the cam timing was fine as i double checked when i put the cambelt on..what would car run like if the cam timming was out? i did remember that i ripped one of the inlet mani gaskets and i jammed it with silicone ...so im pretty sure thats the problem ...low vacum usually means a leak after the throttle body and i couldnt find anything unplugged.. will get some new inlet mani gaskets and hopefully it will solve the problem
  3. i checked cam timing over when i done the cam timing to make sure it was right.. where is the avcs location?
  4. reads 8hg at idle seems like running on two cyclinders.not much power.. undone the spark leads on passenger side and no difference in engine speed so what should i check??at first there was cel but then after afew starts and undone battery it done show anymore
  5. engine was stripped conrod bearing...number 3 cloesest to turbo...piston hitting the head..
  6. sorry its passenger side exhaust cam... yes its all about the tools!!! dam subaru !
  7. im sure the person rebuilding it torqued it up or something...i had the crank pulley on a strong bar locked on the floor and a pretty long pole on the cam pulley bolt
  8. i broke one of the camgears :-[ anyone got a spare one its passenger side inlet one... i tried the cambelt method and only got one undone...they are tight as!!! the other cam just slipped the cam so u think it has to be the pulley from bnt..is there bnt in rotorua?
  9. how do i remove cam gears without using the subaru tool to lock the camgear..stuck... i have v7 wrx its allen/hex key bolts... one cam gear has holes the other 3 has a round cam gear inside the cam gear it self... ley me know thanks 0220151350
  10. its loud on cold start once warm its quiet at idle and ticks when u rev it
  11. im sure if it was bottom end it would be 'LUG LUG LUG'
  12. the tick is constant with injector pulse
  13. i took to mechanic and they reckon its bottom end noise..... :'( i can swear that its only coming from the back hand corner by the turbo and you can hear it from the top end...screw driver to the inlet mani..theres noise screwdriver to the block..no noise if it was big end wouldnt you hear it everywhere in the engine?
  14. will try proma and also some injector cleaner
  15. hi its not running thru the boost solenoid..so thats out i did the screw driver to the ear...and had the flatie screwdriver on the fuel pressure regulator...it was making noise along side with the loud tick... so would it mean dodgy injector???injector cleaner?? it is defitnately more prononced on the fpr than the inlet manifold..
  16. hey guys have topped up oil..last check oil level was couple of mls under the high hole make engine has a loud tick coming from turbo side...defitnately dont sound like big end... could it be the shims?buckets??tappets? could some thick oil addictive make it quieten down? this is in v7 wrx
  17. sorry will gc8 lows fit v7 wrx?
  18. hi been doing single turbo conversion on a bg5b ej20h 3 plug running 5g ecu this model runs ej20h instead of ej20r but still uses a 3 plug ecu. anyone know if this is the same as the conversion in reubens thread? it seems that the loom is different? any one got a pinout with colour code for the bg5b ej20h ecu? also a ecu pinout for a u4 ecu? been looking on the site to see what the u4 ecu come out of,but no luck... i have everything in except the radiator and fans, which surely doesnt make it not start when i turn to 2nd click on the keys theres is no check engine nor fuel , could it be that its running like the bh5s with the fuel controller? been checking the colour of wires from the injectors and ignition and they dont seem to go to the same place as the wrx ecu...\ please help!!! ray 0210464460
  19. what is atf? my legy engine is sup fricken ticky its not funny prettysure its setting off my knock sensor so its running in limp mode
