  1. Ah..... This is the Forester SG5 Genome muffler as it turns out: Ugh, now begins the nightmare of trying to get seller to accept it back...
  2. Lol... I should have moved that leaf. Didn't realise how much it would irritate me looking back at these photos...
  3. Pretty sure it is an Impreza muffler: EDIT: This is strange... the pipe hanger seems to be different here: It faces the other direction:
  4. Just got myself a Genome muffler off a version 7. Was totally excited to install after all the rave reviews about it... gotta say I'm disappointed. #1 fitment is shocking. I will have to get this muffler modified because it currently sits terribly on the car: One of the hangers doesn't even mate up: #2 the sound is very raspy. This is probably the most disappointing part because the sound of these is very hyped. Up top it roars like an open downpipe, but in the lower/mid range it has this gutless rasp sound to it. I have a video uploading to YouTube for proof but will have to use some better recording equipment to really capture it. Whilst the issue of how the exhaust sits can be fixed rather easily, I am not sure that the sound can be. Any ideas from you guys?
  5. Second the comment about a Version 7 or 8 STi. Most of them will have the necessary upgrades done in the price too (exhaust, tyres, window tints) as well as just having better performance/stopping power in general. Plus the transmission (particularly for Version 8) is a big pull factor for STi. I would also think that the STi will hold its value better, particularly if you take good care of it. And, just judging from your posts, it seems like that won't be an issue for you.
  6. AFAIK the gains are negligible, if even existent. I say go for it BUT you should paint it to match your car. Unpainted (or fake carbon) vortex generators look so tacky. Check out this: And, on a white car: When you've done it upload photos!
  7. I use GFB Respons adjustable BOV set to about 40/60 (more recirc). Yeah, I was trying to keep the boost gauge in focus because before filming I noticed that too. Regarding boost control system, I have seen some posts online that suggest a 3 port boost solenoid might provide a fix but haven't really looked too much at that. You can lose yourself online with some of these car symptoms queries.
  8. Is it a problem? Is there a fix? Doesn't sound like it's doing any good...
  9. I might have a bracket. Is it a small, sorta flimsy, metal piece that bolts to the lower heatshield?
  10. A couple days ago, I installed the K&N Typhoon intake. First things first, LOVING the new sounds. Noticed on the motorway in 5th and 6th gears that the boost makes a flutter sort of noise after it peaks and settles at around 1 bar. I will be getting the car tuned at PB soon (just waiting for turbo blanket and inlet hose). But, in the mean time, does anyone know what is causing this noise? Evidence: (skip to 0:21 if impatient) [video=youtube;G_vNvcdiS2Y]
  11. installed walbro fuel pump. had to do it twice because the first time i forgot to put in the little circle to keep the filter on.. derrr
  12. Installed a K&N Typhoon short ram intake and loving the difference! Just waiting for turbo blanket, fuel pump, sway bars, endlinks now
  13. Update: Got the downpipe installed! Should have worn gloves though haha, forgot about the fibreglass part of the heatwrap. As it turns out, the Version 9 downpipe is slightly longer than the Version 8 equivalent. Version 9 is equivalent to a USDM downpipe. The Tomei downpipe is sized for the Version 8 ("JDM length"). My current midpipe is too short to properly mate up to the downpipe. Options: (a) have an exhaust shop weld an extension into my midpipe, or (b) find a cheap catback. Anyone have any recommendations for an Auckland exhaust shop?
  14. Got the downpipe installed! Success! Dilemma:[/u] Turns out the Version 9 STi downpipe is a few inches longer than the Version 8 (equivalent to USDM downpipe length). The Tomei downpipe comes in Version 8 length. This means my midpipe is too short to properly mate up to the downpipe and it is definitely too loud to drive anywhere without being pulled up for noise. Don't know whether to buy a new pipe or have my current one extended at exhaust shop.. Also, decided to ditch the stock heatshield and have opted for a PTP turbo blanket which is en route Currently looking like: Also also, got a huge fright at the smoking downpipe/heatwrap after a short test drive.
  15. I\'m hoping that the catless design will make it worth the cuts all over my hands from trying to get at these bolts. There\'s stuff all clearance in there to fit hands/spanners/ etc ???
  16. Downpipe arrived. Heatwrapped it.. still waiting for that to dry. In the mean time, took off midpipe. Got all but one bolt off the turbo heat shield - it\'s a tight fit in there! Gonna have to find a tiny 10mm spanner to get it out. Can\'t wait to get this downpipe installed!
  17. Just based on the look of axlebacks, will the STi Genome be much of an upgrade you think? I definitely don\'t want a massive cannon poking out the back of my car
  18. So, currently I have a Tomei Expreme downpipe coming from the states: In anticipation, I had a look at my current exhaust setup. I\'ve always thought it was an unbranded aftermarket but am now not sure. Here it is: I\'m currently sitting with no axleback (not driving it) and the noise it makes is pretty awesome and so loud. A bit tractor-ey for my liking down low but really screams when it opens up. Does anyone have any idea what the exhaust system is on my car atm? Is it stock? Also, would it be worth hunting down an STi Genome muffler? Apart from the fact that my exhaust vortexes on the inside and the genome has a straight perforated tube, will it make much of a difference? I will have to slap the axleback on the car again once the downpipe is installed and see whether it makes much of a difference in terms of noise...
  19. In anticipation of my Tomei downpipe coming from EBay I took my axleback off and went for a drive.. Woah. Never gonna be the same when it goes back on
  20. Durrr, should have cleared that up haha. GT Refinishers. Will amend post.
  21. Got the car back today from GT Refinishers. Boot (not including spoiler) resprayed, looked like a polish all over and even made the \'IMPREZA\' decal under the WRX badge. Just a touch over $400. Colour match is perfect. 150% recommend these guys.
  22. Hopefully my boot will be able to be removed and baked to prevent orange peeling.... If that does indeed fix it...
  23. Saw your other post actually and they are top of my list to give a call tomorrow. Might as well look at getting some minor scratches from previous owner/gravel touched up too, but will see how the budget goes.
