Can anyone recommend a good alarm installation company in Christchurch? Ideally I want a good alarm (Autowatch or Cobra) with cabin sensors for pillarless protection, but the main thing is a really solid installation. It looks like the local Autowatch installer is GRC car audio. Anyone used them? I\'ve also been recommended Paul\'s Audio by a mechanic, but should I be looking at any others?

The Cobra website says \'elite audio and security\' is an authorised dealer in Auckland. Cobra alarms are also \'Toyota Approved\' so can be bought from and installed by any authorised Toyota dealership apparently.

Less chrome the better.

That\'s a DAMD grille and bumper combination. Seen them before, and definitely not my cup of tea.

Decided that the front strut brace I\'ve had on my BL5 for a few weeks was making sweet FA difference, so decided to remove it. Managed to snap one of the top hat bolts off in the process, so now have to get a new bolt or top hat fitted. Sigh.
On the plus-side, arranged to get the steering wheel controls hooked up to the aftermarket stereo tomorrow. No more nearly driving into the back of cars trying to find the damn volume buttons (flat, smooth buttons that can\'t be felt with fingers. Nice one, Pioneer).
Also cleaned the wheels... again. Second time this week. Still amazed how much dust EBC Greenstuff pads produce with normal around-town driving.

Take away from this is: always get insurance.

i know this link has been posted elsewhere. and bare in mind the paragraph about it taking longer for insurers to obtain the information they need should you car be nicked thus delaying payment, however you can make it tougher to obtain your address from a car registration. And you never know what contacts these guys have in order to find out vehicles for order type. No we arent in a gone in 60 seconds episode but it seems subarus are very sought after for the chop

Very interesting....... Opted-out just now Thanks
Me too. Seems a no brainer. Can opt in again when selling, if needed, to save hassle.

Tell him you paid for a v6 STi engine and that\'s what you expect. Simple as that, or your money back. No arbitrator or regulatory body in NZ would see it otherwise, and he knows it. He needs to suck it up and accept he has a legal obligation to rectify his mistake.
Is he an MTA member?

Fair enough. Giving it a little more thought, I think the fact the maps only apply to a stock car also makes it a bit of a waste of money in the long run.

Anyone tried this thing, or know anyone who has? Sounds interesting, if expensive. Maps for different fuels, a valet mode and an anti-theft mode, and it plays nice with SI Drive. A little bit cheaper than a dyno tune, and you can send logs off to a tuner for remote tweaks.
I see you can also buy it with third-party tunes (http://www.chiptorque.com.au/ezy-flash-pro/). I like the idea of being able to tweak and change the flash, or return it to stock without taking it back to a tuner. Downside is the default maps are for a stock vehicle and changes to a modified car would need to buy some additional software.

I have a BL5, and the ride height with sedan STi pink springs on it is 360mm front and back (centre of hub to wheel arch). Gap between the wheel arch and the tyre (on factory 18 inchers w/215/45/R18) is 40mm front and 30mm back.

Saw that on Moorhouse Ave at the weekend. Revving randomly at the lights. Made me laff.

Car found in Shirley, eh? I live in Shirley where another Riccarton car was dumped. Wonder if the thieving buggers are locals.

Nice, thanks for the help! Looks like the part number I want is 59122FA010 with Phillips head release, and this clip is used all over the place in lots of subby models from a ~2000 to around 2009. Will to pop around to submarine next week.

I noticed a couple of the little plastic pop screws under the hood that hold down the plastic engine, battery etc. cover in my BL5\'s engine bay are broken (they look like they get pretty brittle, and seem generally pretty rubbish quality).
Anywhere I can get replacements other than going to a Subaru dealer and bending over? Repco or Autocheap maybe? Anyone seen a suitable replacement or source?

I\'ve parked upstairs a lot without any problem, but will be thinking twice before going up there now.
-
No kidding. Had a car parked on the street out front for two weeks that turned out to be stolen from there and dumped.

Seller\'s name: jason_sheman. LOL.

What was the outfit in Chch? Would be handy to know who to avoid...

Assuming you\'ve met your minimum payments and don\'t have any outstanding debts with them, and you request it within six months, they will refund it no problem.

BP 95 Plus BP Fuel Additive to change it to 98 - Anyone Know more

\'Toluene\'. Be careful putting that stuff in your car. It will eat your fuel lines and fuel pump in higher concentrations (which is what\'s needed for a difference). Premium fuels usually contain quite a lot of Toluene anyway, so whatever the BP is selling, it\'s unlikely to make much difference (for a 64 litre tank you would need more than a little bottle of it: formula 1 used to use something like 85% Toluene in their fuel).
Also, bear in mind that it\'s not the greatest for you either (think Benzene) so be careful when handling it...
