  1. Yeah this will be the first mod for my current car and my first time fitting an exhaust so hopefully the mounts on the one I get aren't too off, will need all the help I can get haha.
  2. Ok cool. I don't think I would be able to part with my unequal length headers but thanks for the advice, I think it was the push I needed haha.
  3. Yeah that is helpfull thanks mate think I am probably gonna just go for it. Was gonna keep the silencer I currently have lying around just in case but seems like it won't be needed. Did you change from a factory downpipe to this exhaust? Did you notice a faster spool/ slightly more boost?
  4. Hey everyone, I was looking for an affordable turboback exhaust for my V5 WRX Wagon and I came across the Red line 3". I was wondering if anyone else uses this exhaust, and if so, what is your experience with it? I.e. how loud is it? Did you see many gains in terms of boost/spooling? I am currently running a td04 and heard an 3" turboback is only worth with a decent sized turbo . I will hopefully be putting in a vf22 some time in the near future so maybe then it will be fully worth it? If anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Yeah I reckon kill two birds with one stone and do it while the clutch is being swapped. So I can only buy it as a whole other center diff? And what do you mean by sub phase 2 box? Sorry not the most savvy when it comes to this but I am learning Any recommendations on where to buy a center diff for my car? Also was wondering what would be the repercussions if I left it as is, not that I am going to, just interested to see what would of happened if I had neglected it. Thanks again.
  6. Hey everyone, For a while now my car has been having an issue where after I have been driving or for an extended period, or driving it hard for a bit, I get a clunking/knocking noise coming from what sounds like the center diff if I do slow maneuvers with the wheel around 3/4 to full lock. After some research, it seems my center diff may be on it's way out. What I wasn't sure about is if my 1999 V5 Wagon has a Viscous center diff, or just an open center diff. if anyone would be able to tell me that would be awesome. My mechanic reckons it is a viscous center diff and something needs to be replaced. He told me that off the top of his head he reckons a brand new Viscous hub is about $1500 dollars for the unit on its own. This is not an option for me as I also need to put in a new clutch as it is starting to slip quite badly, and unfortunately I don't have a bottomless wallet haha. So would it be cheaper to change the Viscous hub or the whole center diff? Is it ok to get second hand? And how much would I be expecting to pay for all this? If anyone knows where I can get either on a budget I will be forever in your debt haha. If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. (Seems this sort of stuff only occurs after that car has been thrashed quite a bit, like donuts and that like, never done anything like that myself so sucks that I seemed to get the car at the end of its clutch/center diff life span...) Thanks
  7. Oh and any idea where I might find one of these OEM STI Clutches? Can only seem to find ones for 04'+ whereas mine is a 99'.
  8. Awesome, thanks heaps for the help guys
  9. Ok sweet as, yeah it is relatively stock, just wanna change the exhaust and eventually the turbo, just don't have that much money to throw around atm so not looking for anything too expensive, preferably around the 500 mark.
  10. Ahh god dammit, I did do the test where you put on the handbrake and let the clutch out in 4th to see if it doesn't stall meaning your clutch is screwed and it did stall when I did it, but I guess the other symptoms are pretty telltale signs. Any recommendations on what sort of clutch I should get?
  11. Hey all, First time poster here (garage thread is on the way ). I have owned a 1999 V5 WRX Wagon for about 4-5 months now. It has always had some issues when the engine got hot, after driving for long periods of time or just going hard, like the gears losing all smoothness when shifting and hearing an audible sound of the gear clomping in on take off, and what sounds like a thumping/banging noise when the wheel is anywhere near full lock, but now I believe the clutch has started slipping. I took it in for a service to the mechanic, and he put some sort of additive into the gearbox oil for what he saw as a possible solution to some of these issues, he did not fully clarify what exactly he put in though. That night I went for a 80 or so km drive and after 30-40km in heavy Auckland outbound motorway traffic, unsurprisingly it started doing the stuff it normally does when it gets hot, except this time, if I floored it in 4th (and sometimes 5th) when it hit 4k rpm, it would jump to 4500rpm with no real increase in torque. I believe the clutch is slipping, though nowhere near as bad as some I have seen (only jumps about 500rpm). So I just wanted to clarify, does this seem like the clutch slipping? If so is it possible to salvage it instead of replacing the whole thing? If it does need replacing, anyone have any tips on how to go about it? And if anyone has any info on these other problems it would be greatly appreciated. tl;dr: clutch seems like it is slipping 500rpm at 4k rpm in 4th, is new clutch necessary or is it salvageable? Thanks
