  1. Ill try the disputes tribunal although it takes 6 weeks for anything to happen. Very annoyed indeed
  2. Cheers for all the messages. Car is now up for sale on Trade me as is. All a big learning curve. Expensive one at that. Motor installed was a second hand one. And it's bloody leaking oil. Motor was from Subaru Auto Spares in Manukau. Seemed all good at first. But then nothing but a pain in the arse after motor went. Should have gone to a specialist. Back on the bike for now!
  3. Warranty was just a verbal agreement when he installed the motor., would have been good if he had of checked the computer and given me a heads up or warning before just throwing in new motor. I guess you get what you pay for
  4. I did a bit of research on the net about why beb fail. When guy installed second motor he said it could be the pod filter messing with the afm. So had planned on changing to standard box. But should have taken it to specialist. Didn't have enough money to do proper rebuild so went for cheaper motor so I could at least get back on the rd. As this is my first performance car I really had no idea. But it's been an expensive lesson that's for sure.
  5. Yeah I posted a thread a while ago. Sounds like the ECU he is talking about. Was running either mobile or bp 98 octane all the time. I had no boost controller on it. Boost gauge was showing around 10psi average boost but would peak sometimes to 14.5psi. It also had a pod filter and big bore exhaust which I hear doesn't help with engine life. But 2 motors in 3 weeks. It's been a nightmare and cost $7000 grand so far and now stuck with debt and a dead car
  6. Hey guys. After a second opinion. I got a second hand motor for a 96 Wrx sedan. First engine blew bottom end bearing. Got second motor installed with a 1 month warranty. After 1 week engine failed and has done the same thing. After taking the car back he pulled the computer out and said it was a 'zero' brand rally computer and was running advanced timing or something like that. He now won't warranty the motor. Is this reasonable or am I just getting shafted? I'm not a mechanic or experienced with these engines so any advice or help is appreciated. Cheers
  7. Haha. Well I'm glad yours didn't blow up. I just have to hope that the guy will replace engine under one month warranty otherwise I'm seriously out of pocket. It's all a big learning curve and all my mates are telling me to get rid of it. But keen to get it sorted and prove them wrong. Just might take a while to get it back on the rd.
  8. Just had an interesting chat with a guy. And of course everyone has their own opinion. He said combination of pod filter sucking in hot air plus big free flow exhaust could cause over boost and lean out cylinder 4. Sounds fairly plausible to me. Will pull apart my old block with a help of a friend at the weekend and try suss what has gone exactly
  9. Yeah that could def be a possibility. I thought that it would be full of fresh oil after engine swap. Didn't check till the morning after the bearing went. Was showing about half. Was def not at the bottom or very low. Oil still clean.
  10. Thanks. My thoughts exactly. Engine seemed to be ok with the first week cruising and just letting new engine settle in as per guys instructions. Then on first night of giving it a bit of right foot on the back roads ends in tears. I have herd that pod filters can muck around with the air flow sensor. But don't think that has caused bottom end to go again. Checked the oil and it was clean but only at the half way mark. Not sure if that would be enough to kill the engine. Keen to get back on the rd but not keen to throw more money away. Plus the hassle.
  11. Came with a one month warranty. Hopefully I can sort something out with the guy when he gets back from overseas. I'm guessing the same will happen till we can get to the bottom of the problem. Would love to get professional rebuild but just blew the budget on the car and replacement engine. Painful exercise that's for sure. Love the sound and handling but not loving two blown engines in 3 weeks.
  12. New engine was imported from Japan and had done 128,000km. But I guess there is no real way of telling. Put Mobile 98 in it last night. Before that 98 bp Ultimate. No boostcontroller. Was hitting 1 bar which was guessing 14.5psi with previous motor. New engine didn't seem to spike so high. Guy I got engine from said the computer must be chipped or modded to cause failure so soon. I was giving it some right foot action out the back roads but not to redline. 6-6,500rpm top. Thought it should be able to handle that ok. Was going quick but nothing over the top.
  13. Hi, just after some advice really. Bought my first turbo car a month ago. 96 Wrx version 3 sedan. Only mods I know about are big bore exhaust and adjustable suspension plus pod filter. After 2 weeks of driving fairly hard the bottom end went. Just shelled out for second hand motor and after one week of taking it easy took it for a boost last night. Running around 10-12psi on the gauge. Got off the mway and now has same engine knock. It's not bad but can def hear it in second gear around 3,000rpm. Any advice is much appreciated. Please not I'm a complete novice to all this
