Cool thanks for the response soba. I haven't been able to find a violet white cable anywhere. I know it wasn't in the main audio loom but I had another harness that plugs into the AC controls that I thought would have it but I haven't tested fully yet.

Hey peeps,
Does anyone have any information on which wires I need to plug the ASWC into on a japenese import 4th Gen Outback?
All the information I have found appears to be for U.S. versions of the Outback and Legacy and none of the references seem to make sense (no violet/white wire for example) for the wires and connectors on my car.
I swapped out my factory head unit for a 2-din kit and I'm more than happy with my Pioneer head unit, but it really REALLY bugs me that I can't use the steering wheel controls!

Hey man this is a cool project - have you had any more progress since July?

Help installing ASWC Steering Wheel Control into 2005 JDM Outback
in I.C.E.

Thanks gotasuby. I've finally found the correct information and you are right - the steering wheel control wires come out of the steering wheel and then go into a bus module that turns them into a different type of signal for the Kenwood HU in the JDM models.
So like you I will have to find those wires under the kick panel instead behind the HU.
