  1. DAB+ is currently only offered in NZ, by Kordia on 239.200MHz (in AKL), will check if Welli use the same Freq - if it does, it will alleviate the need to re-tune in different regions - provided they all broadcast the same station ID/Name.

It shouldn't be too long before Mediaworks and TRN offer DAB+ service.

The above unit (Cord Panorama, JB Hi-Fi) is one of the few DAB+ receivers avail on the NZ market - and is quite expensive, $204 with NZDF price. However it is featured packed; Internet Radio, full RDS info (on analogue FM), Aux in and Media Player (with shared music on Windows).

How do you connect it? Thinking about getting one, also thinking about getting a Win CE powered box so I can run GPS on a head unit.

Yeah I was looking at something similar, too used to pressing the buttons on the steering wheel...now they do nothing.

The new 2014 Kenwood stereos offer a direct OEM steering remote connection on the double din units (two wires) - that's really convenient.

Obligatory plug for Taylor's on Jackson (ClubSub member owns the place!) but not sure if they could fit us all in there (Glen may want to chime in?)

Also they've been selling out their burger most nights so would need a booking.

If anyone's keen on a adhoc meetup either tonight, tomorrow or Sat night?

I'm very keen to try this burger!

It's not available for lunch - otherwise I'd be on my way there now...

  4. I've been disappointed by the food there several occasions (even with work mates). The pizzas were ok, but their burgers were always s**t. The Tote in Trentham do much better!

Why not support the locals? Try Taylor on Jackson's, Welli on a Plate offering? $25 burger - looks rather tasty! Get the matching Garage Project beer.

Not sure if I'll get to try it before I leave for Aucks on Sunday (for six weeks).

Having been in town the last two nights; I can highly recommend both the Laundry ($15) and Southern Cross ($20) burger offerings. Both places are conveniently located top of Cuba St.

  5. Yeah I think 215/45/17 being a really common size may also have affected the price. The last time I bought them or 215/40/17, they were a bit cheaper, around $180 for RE001 - but that's easily 3-4 years ago.

  6. Factory speakers use a cheap in-line capacitor to high-pass the tweeters (which are wired parallel to the woofers). Aftermarket components definitely demand more than the 16-20W (RMS) that headunit internal amplifiers put out.

The Jaycar (Response) 50Wx4 were ideal for speakers , and fit under the seat too. They do a 100Wx4 if you're after a more powerful clean sound, good value at under $300.

Also the 6.5" speaker spacers (Ed's Auto) won't work, as the fitting screws differ between older GC8/BF5, etc.. you have to make custom spacers from 18mm MDF.

  7. It's almost time to replace the tyre's on the BP5 Outback. The rear ones are poked anyway.

    Odd size 215/55/17 (factory rims)

    Prices from Tony's (U/Hutt):

    BS RE002, $289x3 = $867 (4 for 3 deal). Or $249 each.

    BS MY002, $259x3 = $777 (4 for 3 deal). Or $221 each.

Are these good prices? I haven't bought tyre's in a while, will need them done in the next two weeks (if I decide to take car to Aucks)

Alternatively I could go cheap Altenzo's at approx $120ea...the guy at Tony's advised against doing that

  8. Finally found me a stereo surround $220 from TradeMe, already have the $8 pick-a-part pocket and the (temporary) $96 Pioneer MVH-X165UI (JB Hi-Fi) stereo... almost forgot the aerial adaptor (ED-SU10) $15 from Ed's Auto.

  9. The Upper Hutt Dawn Service parade starts at 0530, where the old Smiths City was on Queen St (opp the Countdown), it heads towards the City Council building on Fergusson Drive (next to Expressions/H2O Extreme), it will be chocka anyway. So I suggest getting there early for a good observation spot.

It\'s my first year in uniform, and in the parade/squad. Judging from last year, Upper Hutt usually has a very large turnout!

It usually wraps up around 0715, and many head to the Cossie Club for their $5 breakfast, unfortunately coffee is additional. We\'re heading out to the Porirua RSA for their 1000 service; otherwise coffee at mine would be most welcomed...

I probably won\'t be heading out to Newtown on Thurs night; as I have to prep and iron my rig for the next morning, and ensure my shoes are highly polished.

I may not make it, swimming practise, and possibly drinks afterwards with Navy oppos visiting from Devonport..

Lol swimming practise Jase, you would want to learn before you joined the navy!!

Strangely, quite a few don\'t pass the initial swim test. Regular force pers get remedials and a certain time-frame to pass the test. Not sure what it is for the reserves, but the pressure is on..

  11. I had one of the old flat Jaycar amps, 2x150W rms. It went really well.

I\'m still using a E-Audio 480AB (6+ years), and I\'ve got a vintage Fusion FP-1000x (125Wx4) - back when their stuff was of acceptable quality. Both run a set of front comps and my 8" DD loaded enclosure.

I think I\'m getting too old for super loud/powerful audio systems, cut down from three amps to one.

  12. Yeah, to rehash an old topic.

If you\'re going to insist on using a band expander, make sure it\'s a quality NZ made unit, by Electronics Developments in Onehunga, Auckland. They are designed and tested here for NZ conditions.

It\'s cheaper to buy direct from them, rather than thru Ed\'s Auto.

Just fitted a 10MHz one to a mates 2004- Honda, with the special square antenna connectors. And it works quite well. Far better than the crappy Chinese $20 ones from Ripco/Supercrap.

  13. DAB (Digtal Audio Broadcasting) a.k.a Digital Radio is slowly making it's way into the NZ market. Currently there are 8 stations that DAB/DAB+ tuners can pickup; Base FM, BBC Worldservice, RNZ Concert, Concert Plus, George FM, RNZ National, Radio Spice, Tarana.

Most of the above are provided by the Kordia DAB service (same as freeview).

In Australia, you can buy DAB/DAB+ car stereos (I may get one in November, as you can't buy them yet in NZ).

I just picked up one of these: it does Internet radio, DAB+, and analogue FM (with RDS).
