The banana plugs don\'t quite fit the flimsy gold plated connectors, often found on stock sub boxes - the terminals aren\'t quite deep enough for a secure fit
I\'ve found these RS ones much better/tighter fitting (UK made), part no: 677-8759, $13.1 each

gain is volume right? if so i\'m not one of these people who drives round with there sub pounding, i\'m level with the music
/quote]
Gain is gain. Volume is volume. Although changing the gain will make it louder/quieter, it\'s used to match the amp to the rest of your system.
Yep - too often I\'ve found people have the gain setting too far clockwise on 4V+ pre-outs and the amp is maxed at 1/4 of the volume setting on the headunit.
I had to back it a whole half turn, now they can use 5/6 of the volume control.

Not sure about the other sites, but Lower Hutt is ridding it.
It may mean having to schedule some future meets in Wellington (a break from the usual J\'ville)...
-
So it has come to my attention that BP Melling no longer stock Ultimate 98, making it somewhat of a hassle for those of us based in Upper Hutt.
Does anyone know if the J\'ville or Mana BP\'s have pulled out as well?
It\'s almost tempting to tune the car on 95, at the sake of slightly less power
-
That sub will be sweet running on a bridged amp. Should sound all good.
Idealy you want to match the RMS power ratings on both the sub and amp.
Subs/speakers in general don\'t mind extra power, so a 325W rated sub (like that fusion) will be happy with 400W (rms) or more, as long as it\'s not clipping or distorting - back the gain settings off a bit on the amp
-
Old school Fusion is better. I\'m using a FP4-1000X; 130W x4 (RMS), the new greeen ones are nowhere near that - maybe 65W x4 at a guess.
Bridged you can only run a SVC, 4-ohm sub (or a dual 2-ohm wired in series).
I\'ve never had one fail, they seem quite robust. The FP-402 lasted many years, was used in about 3 cars - then I needed more power!
-
I\'m sure I ran into him at an Abtec soundoff when Olly\'s failcon was busy shaking itself to pieces
Yeah, I was in that falcon for a few minutes - couldn\'t handle any more than that! Definitely got a headache.
8AWG is what I\'m using for power wire to my amp. Jaycar now stock 0AWG - I don\'t think many on here will need it.
-
I\'m guessing you guys aren\'t running a single E-Audio 1000D or equivalent?

I\'ve been looking for these for a while now. Both RS and Element 14 don\'t seem to stock them. Great for quick removal of subwoofers, minimise the chances of wires shorting.
They can also be used on home theater receivers and speakers also - as it\'s a standard size gap. The screw down binding posts don\'t always offer the best connection - especially with large cables (>12AWG) used in front and center channels.

big day out went downhill, they kinda climaxed with metallica. last year they threw open the gates, free entry to anyone who had been before and still had the ticket. to be fair, wellington gets the 7\'s and homegrown....
Yeah I\'m guessing it\'s never been that big here - whereas Sydney and Melbourne generally sell out before the event.
I went to the Melb one the year Neil Young was headlining - the atmosphere/experience was far superior to any NZ one!
Homegrown - yeah forgot about that one. Missed it last year.

Nothing else really in Welli... 90% of concert coverage in NZ, is generally in Aucks
Of Monsters and Men are playing Laneway Festival 28th Jan in Silo Park, with a few other Indie bands (they\'ve only been around a few years - "Little Talks" was released 2011, "Mountain Sound" in 2012).
The Offspring and Linkin Park are also playing at the Vector Arena - wouldn\'t mind seeing them (guess I\'m showing my age with 90\'s bands)
I didn\'t realize they did away with the Big Day Out here - that was good value.
-
After not having logged in for well over a month - it doesn\'t seem like I have missed much...
One thing I have noticed though is more bands seem to be doing gigs in Welli - which saves travelling to Aucks!
Tue 19 Feb: Garbage at Michael Fowler Center - I\'d be keen on that. $86.20+booking fees.
Sat 23 Mar: Counting Crows also at MFC. $99.90+booking fees.

Protector Safety (Blackwoods) usually have the 1kg ones with twin metal straps, on sale $27+gst. Although I\'m sure they can be had for cheaper elsewhere as Blackwoods is usually a rip-off.

Are you guys in Wellington by any chance?
I\'ve found the area to have the worst FM coverage - esp when driving along SH2 to Upper Hut, or near Horokiwi into town - almost no/weak signal. Classic Hits used to be the strongest signal back when they were on 90.0, but the switch to 90.1 seems to have dropped it slightly; hence why some stations have two freq\'s, from different transmitters to compensate for the hilly terrain
I think the Welli signal from Kaukau must be bounced towards the Cook Strait, as local guys can pickup Welli freq\'s from Blenheim.
Having been down south for the last month: Blenheim/Nelson/Canterbury offer excellent signal - being flat terrain helps a lot also.

Great beer festival to those that missed it. I would highly recommend it for next year: 30-ish beers over 5 hours is easily do-able versus the 271 at beervana in 4 hours! And the serving sizes are 100ml (beervana 75ml) - although I was being generous with my pours...
Helping to setup on Sunday arvo, 1pm-ish
Some behind the bar/serving experience
It got busy...around 300 tickets sold!

Sat Oct 20th and Sun Oct 21st at the Boatshed.
Around 30 beers from NZ, Aussie, Jap and USA. A more civilized sampling - 270ish at Beervana was far too epic!
I\'m volunteering for the Sunday session, so get to go on Saturday for free (saving the $40 entry fee). It is run very similar to Beervana, you can buy tokens and redeem for beer sampling, and food.

I logged in at lunchtime - and it was ok speed; but now seems sluggish (with peak hour internet usage, being hometime, and all).
-
Finally put the rego on hold. No rush now; seeing as I've missed the Taupo trackday... saving funds for long overdue holiday at end of year, taking a month off.
-
I've put some of them on my BL/BP calipers and they seem to go quite well - got them about $50 which is a bargain for such a large pad. I've previously used them in the 4-pot calipers and rears.
They're better than the Repco pads of the same price point.

Is your garage full of storage? Might be an idea to try and park the car in, or at least park the work van behind it.
-
You can get away with it, but they won't be warrantable at a VTNZ testing station...
There's a place in the US that does custom retrofit kits: http://shop.lightwerkz.net/Complete-Retrofit-Kits
Their stuff is pretty good quality too, I think a mate bought a wiring kit to convert a spec c to run the HID lights in a V7.

Essentially, yes. But if you have time; read on.
The sub settings on the headunit usually have a negative to zero to positive setting. I normally have it on 0 to set.
Start with the gain settings on the amps fully anti-clockwise and crank the volume on the headunit between 3/4 and full, tweak them till you have a nice balance, nice and loud without distortion - essentially this is your maximum volume level; the reason I suggest using 3/4 volume is to compensate for quieter music, such as Dire Straits
The important bit is to have loudness off, and a flat EQ setting when doing this. If the headunit had HPF settings use either 80 or 100Hz, and LPF to 80Hz - it\'s a lot easier than tweaking the freq knobs on the amps, just set them to the off position (Off/HPF/LPF).
I usually do the speakers first, and the sub last - but that\'s personal preference
Have a play around and tweak the EQ\'s to suit personal taste, I usually attenuate the high end by -1 or -2, depending on the harshness of the tweeters.. and since you\'ve tuned the sub on 0 setting, there is fine adjustment for less or more bass, depending on the type of music.
