Have to get past the "format war" before it'll really catch on, IMO. No point if every manufacturer uses an incompatible system and the resulting effect is that governments/buyers can't be bothered with it.

Troll mode: engaged

Instant boost, just add restrictor pill!
Restrictor pill will only increase boost when one is not already present. Refer to your mechanic for advice on whether the restrictor pill is suitable for your vehicle. May cause allergic reactions in police and other individuals sensitive to turbocharged vehicles. Not suitable for Nissans or children under the age of 12.

May need to remove Blue Streak (wtf?) and replace with Dunlop.

Glared at the fuel consumption readout. Currently sitting at 15.4L/100KM.

Anyone know if there's any pattern to Bridgestone's 4 for 3 sales?
Have noticed that the best tyres for the money (unless you get trade prices and fit them yourself) are always Bridgestone if you buy at the right time.

I said incl. GST.
Price could have changed and/or could be cheaper from certain Subaru dealers, I dunno. That's what I remember the price coming out to.
EDIT: or they gave me the retail price and I forgot which was which.

Chiming in from MAF adventures of a certain other WRX STi: genuine from Subaru here is something like $175 incl. GST if you can get someone in trade to hook you up. The bolts holding the MAF in place are just normal Security Torx (I forgot the size but it's somewhere around T20).
Seal around the MAF is pretty tight, you may need a thin flat-blade screwdriver to pry it loose. Other than that it's pretty easy to get off.
EDIT: if it stopped working after you hit a bump in the road it's probably buggered. These hot wire MAFs are apparently quite sensitive to shock.

Polished water spots off Dairusire's RA. Now the glass actually looks clean after the car is washed.
Need better pads, current ones are sort of useless for anything other than waxing but definitely beat elbow grease.
-
Poor sod who has to hang out the door and/or crawl under the car to find this noise reporting:
I am in agreement with most of the exhaust posts, the RA is going up on a lift when it gets WoF'd anyway so we shall see what the clearances are like. Sound only heard when car is rolling at low RPMs, and it is coming from the left rear side of the car.

Sorry, yeah. Forgot to specify NA.
Don't really want a turbo, just something less weaksauce than an EJ15.

Pretty keen on buying a GH as a daily (not really interested in the go-fast bits on the GRs) but they don't seem to be easily obtainable with an EJ20.
Assuming the EJ20 was either an expensive option or wasn't sold in JDM GHs?

Filled up for the month. Also went around getting insurance quotes for a NC MX-5.
(BR9 averaged 6.2 L/100KM driving out to the last meet. Don't really commute in it, so a full tank literally lasts me a month.)

I could quote you some Hankook Ventus V12 Evos, but they would be well into the $300s per tyre.
At least you'd know how much you should expect to pay, I guess.

My dumb question(s):
1) Anybody know who makes BNT's C Plus pads?
2) Anybody know how good they are relative to Subaru genuine?
Received a complete set (DB1491 + 1803) but I was planning to buy Akebono's Pro-ACTs anyway, so I dunno whether I should fit these or sell them to somebody else.

Broke out my tub of car care products and spent seven hours straight just detailing.
Not sure if it was worth it, paint looks okayish now but I can't really do much in the way of proper paint correction with elbow grease. Might need to get some ultra-fine wet/dry sandpapers from work. Scratches under the handles got some love today, though:

SI Drive defaults to Sport when you start the car, so it's probably the normal tune.
Outbacks don't have SI Drive but I suspect they just run in the equivalent of Sport mode all the time.
-
The catch: there's a strict number (IIRC 200?) of vehicles allowed to be imported as "special interest" per year, and you can't resell it for several years.
-
Tried Rislone Head Gasket Fix as a "last ditch" option on older cars a couple of times, actually worked pretty well and the cars it was used on are still puttering around. Doesn't require any flushing or coolant replacement, but you will have glittery coolant for quite some time.
Pretty expensive at retail pricing though.
-
Requires the gearbox housing to be opened, but doesn't seem to require complete disassembly.
Haven't yet done one personally.
-
Oil seals on the tranny itself might be worth doing if you plan to drive the car for several years.

2007 and 2008 Hatchback question

Depends on what it is. US vehicle regulations are different (that's the most polite way I can put it).
If you put a European LHD [insert marque] onto a boat to the US it probably wouldn't be road legal there.
